1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Was there a few BJD videos you watched constantly as a newbie?

Mar 26, 2015

    1. This makes me feel old, but yeah, I'm seconding this. Youtube didn't even exist back then and MySpace was still the largest social network (really, I had to look up what was the thing back then :)).

I would've loved the ability to watch videos, though. The first time I saw my own doll, I was shocked at how big it was, even though - nerd that I am - I created a paper doll the size of and SD, just so I could get used to the size.

    2. Oh I watch things by Nicolles dreams and Asenava over and over, but my fav thing is digging through maintenance and tips videos with very little views, it's amazing what you can find~

    3. Im a newbie and i watch allot of unboxing videos just to see the different sizes and help learn about the different dolls. ;)

    4. I watched Andreja's faceup stories all the time and in general faceup tutorial videos x3

    5. I considered myself a newbie in the early days before (and for a while after) joining DoA initially. Youtube wasn't really a thing then as much that I am aware of, but individual user videos were hosted on the websites. ...Did I just make myself sound old?

...Anyhow, back in the days where we had a charming little BJD band going (Mistula), I was a huge admirer of the work that went into those videos and watched them constantly (and I seem to recall annoying the ever loving crud out of poor Kiya in those days by discussing the videos down to the smallest faction).

    6. I always watch AsenvaBJD's videos and I also watch a lot of box opening and body review videos. I feel like they're giving me valuable information that may be more difficult to get just by reading articles on google or from other hobbies blogs. Though I do read those too. You know information in any way you can get it.

    7. I watched body reviews and clothing hauls! I was obsessed with Nicolle's Dreams Face Up Stories! (:

    8. Well when I first found Bjd I obviously started with watching Asenva and then I found Lorti and fell in love with Bjd completely. Lori had some of the most interesting Bjd and she made rooms for them and created stories. I wanted to do the same thing for my Bjd even if it would cost me a bit of money. :dance

    9. The Youtube community was tiny when I started out in the hobby, so I watched everything that I could find (mostly Lorti, Kireix and Keekster, Asenva and a little bit later Denaliwind also). This was in the days when I read every single DoA thread as well, I was hugely addicted and wanted to know everything under the sun, haha. About 2.5 years ago I started my own channel and a whole bunch of other people did too, so it's a fairly big community of wonderful people now. I love it, the hobby wouldn't be the same for me without video's and all those lovely friends :D

    10. I watched all sorts of unboxing videos, but somehow they didn't prepare me for how big my first SD was. I also watched a lot of faceup time lapses because I really wanted to learn how to do it on my own ^^" I'm not bad at it now. Not great, but not bad. I once started my own Youtube channel for BJDs but it only has one video on it?? I'm pretty much never on Youtube, so...

    11. YouTube has been another great resource for information.

    12. I watched a ton of Faceup Stories by Nicolle's Dreams because I wanted to do faceups myself. I watched AsenvaBJD a lot, she was my go-to to be honest. And of course, box openings!!!

    13. Well, as a resident newbie right now, I avidly watch bjd videos on youtube XD. I really enjoy Nicolle's Dreams and Anne Picaro

    14. I watched a lot of Asenva and regenleif, and still do! I also pour the web for box openings, especially ones of my favorite dolls/ dolly brands. *cough* watching all Iplehouse unboxings *cough*.

    15. As a current noob I watch AsenvaBJD, Denail wind (I love her stories, really got me inspired on the charater side of the hobby), and Nicolle's Dreams (she got me into the whole thing with her face-ups!)

    16. When I started in bjds, I was on a dialup connection. I think the best I could get was around 31200 baud. The account had a monthly limit of 64 meg (not gig). The only video about was the Volks "how to assemble a MSD" and I bought it from a @#$% on ebay who was pretending to be a Volks dealer. The video was a copy. The dolls he sold were also recasts, and a few people on DOA got stung when their "MSD" showed up in pure white resin.

    17. I watched Dejavudea and her Volks Suiseiseki many times. Of course I could never find a doll like that but it got me hooked to BJD's. I also watched Sam Tate and her lovely Fairyland MNF Chloe and I ordered a Chloe and sent her for a faceup (I hated those default purple lips). I wasn't able to join this site for years until I got an invite. It's probable a good thing I was able to take my time and find the right dolls and find the direction i wanted to go in this hobby. Style, Characters. I never wanted to buy a doll and sell it within months. I have sold a couple because they didn't work out but I invest in face ups so they are just the way I want them.

    18. As a Newb in the hobby i watch alot of YouTube in my free time. The people i watch the most are Asenva, Wennie, freyabunny19, Denali Wind and Meta Cynth. To me they all bring something different to the table.

    19. I've never watched a YouTube doll video. I don't generally watch any YouTube videos either.

    20. I watched every Nicolle's Dreams faceup story video that was out there at the time, just to get a feel for how to do faceups and to get some recommendations on supplies. I occasionally watched some box openings, and there were a couple of restringing videos that were lifesavers for me. Now I try to find different clothing and prop tutorials on youtube, it's a wonderful resource for this hobby!
