Was your first BJD "your style?"

Jan 10, 2018

    1. I've been interested in getting a doll for years but only recently have I purchased my first doll. She hasn't arrived yet but I know I made the right decision. At first I thought I would get a more realistic looking doll because I didn't really like the look of the anime ones but I absolutely fell in love with the Dolli Pop Ang sculpt. Can't wait for her to arrive! :)

    2. My first doll is definitely no longer my style. I chose my first doll when I was 15, and I'm 23 now, so needless to say my tastes have changed a lot in that time, haha. I still love him because he's my first doll, and I will never get rid of him and will probably never restyle him, but he's not the style I go for nowadays. Something nice about BJDs is that there is always that option to restyle them if they no longer suit your tastes, although that can sometimes only go so far.

    3. My first doll was a very impulsive buy to be honest, and while I think she's very pretty still, I ultimately decided to reshell her character using a more realistic (Raccoon Doll) sculpt, and I don't think I'd buy one in my first doll's style again. I had gotten a Withdoll Jiho for my birthday and really fell in love with how expressive and real he looked in comparison to my other dolls. I love photography and was feeling a little stuck with my collection as it was and now I'm fully shifting to more realistic sculpts. Sometimes you just don't realize until you see them in person, I think.

    4. Yes. My first bjd is my style. Mia’s face sculpt allows her to look sweet or sassy or pouty or just plain annoyed. I like that her look can easily change into a whole new vibe.

    5. My first bjd was not my style at all. It was kinda impose buying.:sorry

    6. Yes, my first was Dollmore Lusion Ice Dahlia, I love her unusual size and adorable face.

    7. My first doll was SD Tae 2nd I bought in 2008 with al the saving I had as 18 years old. I was too embarrassed that I liked dolls and let her go in only a few months. I fell in love with her not knowing one thing about bjd and that kept me from enjoying hobby. I also didn’t know there were any other doll companies other than Volks (Japanese culture is pretty isolating and you don’t get to know anything besides Japanese without intentional research)

now I know Volks dolls are the least kind of style I like. But I still find only Tae desirable to acquire again someday. Lately I found Zees Studio Erato that I think has same facial distinction as Tae and is more realistic. (I love realism)

    8. i’ve always really liked small things, so getting a resinsoul yu made complete sense as my first doll. its definitely not what i expected though! as i’ve gotten older i’ve gotten a lot more interested in dolls that are a bit weirder looking, so i really love dolls like the dollzone eugenia and the like. i think if i were to completely start the hobby over i would probably go with a resinsoul wei as my first :D

    9. He's definitely what I like face and head wise, although his clothing (gothic lolita dress) isn't what I would like for him. Its has grown on me though and I don't want to change him out of it. He's somewhat of an impulse although I did sit on him until the seller suddenly dropped the price by a notable margin. I do adore his face up, which was done by the seller. His hair and eye color also go well with his faceup.

    10. My first doll was what I was looking for at the time a bisque-like bjd, incredibly cute, and something I dreamed of having as a child, but it wasn't my style of doll later on. I learned really fast I preferred larger dolls and more mature looking dolls. It was a great first doll though. It was a Rosen Lied doll. It was a Xmas gift from my sister so I cherish it even more. I most likely wil never part with it even though it isn't my style anymore. I probably would have kept collecting Rosen Lied if they didn't shut down.

    11. I ordered my first doll when I had just started the hobby, and I was really in love with him and sooo excited to get him and bought him a lot of clothes and accessories! He was an Immortality of Soul Class 60 'I', which is no longer on their site I think.

While waiting for him, I saw a sale post for a Switch Waseon, and right then I knew he was much more my style so I bought him right away, and they've since remained my fave company! I ended up selling my IOS doll as soon as I got him because I realized he just didn't fit with my taste as much as I had thought. Probably the excitement of a first doll that made me buy him initially and he was very cute!

    12. My first BJD was a Volks Isao 2nd edition, in 2005. (Where Angels Lie - A Super Dollfie Database - SD13) His fullset outfit was not my style; at the time I didn't understand the aesthetic behind it, and was only too eager to get him some "normal" clothes and hair!

I still have him after all these years, in his "normal" look. However, I kept his outfit, and another Volks doll wears it, since he's more of a "street" type. :3nodding:

    13. My first doll was absolutely not my style. It was supposed to be a character from my favoutrite otome game. But the sculpt and the body were totally wrong, not to mention the face up I did (my first ever, so it was very bad). After renouncing to make him portray my favourite character, I tried lots of different styles but I just didn't like the sclupt on this body, so now, it's just a headless body and a floating head waiting in their boxes :sweat

    14. Definitely my style! It probably helps that i was already an ancient 800 year old dinosaur by the time i could afford my first doll, so i already knew what i was looking for and what i liked, so i was able to get the body and style i wanted, except for her current head/face, i gotta fix it >_<!
