1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Was your first doll a doll you wanted?

Jul 22, 2017

    1. YES!
After I needed to sell my doll because of some issues I was now able to buy a doll again and I went with the same head, body type, and chest size as before! I'm truly happy about my Minifee Chloe and I'll never give her away again!
I mean, buying her a second time really shows me how much I loved her!

    2. Nope, because the doll I wanted was no longer produced (the site was closed).

    3. No. I haven't recieved her yet, but after browsing Mandarake for a bit I found an outrageously cheap Leekeworld YOSD and took the plunge.

    4. I've heard stories about some newbies bought a cheaper doll when they first join the hobby, but later on found out that they don't like the doll as much as they expected. I think it's important to start with a doll that you really like rather than to buy a doll just because it is more affordable. I bought my first doll when I was a college student and I worked parttime to save up money for him.

    5. I did not like the first bjd I ever had.
I did really love one of the first bjd's I bought myself.
She was an msd Spirit doll snowdrop limited full set girl in a pure white resin.
      I really loved her.
I chose to sell her eventually because my Volks obsession took hold, and that is a beast I can't contain.

    6. I got a job and saved and my first will be on his way before the new year :love He was nearly $800 with a sale. I adored him at first sight and having experienced wanting a doll and being too broke at the time to buy him; I couldn’t miss this chance a second time

    7. Yes, at that time, it is. But during the long waiting, I changed my mind... Now my sense about doll have changed many times, it is not my type now.

    8. Yes, though he wasn't my first choice. I went through a few possibilities: Iplehouse, fairyland, Elfdoll, Iplehouse again, then Fairyland. I missed an Elfdoll SD (the sculptor was closing shop) by an hair, then learned about Iplehouse's lack of posability before I could buy Lonnie ( I am quite happy about it as I discovered later that I preferred Joy ), this meant I went back to Fairyland Littlefees.
At this point, I was concentrating on a Chiwoo boy, unfortunately I felt I needed him in tan, something Fairyland wasn't proposing at the time. Surfing the web, I discovered a lovely picture of a Shiwoo girl. As I could only find a Shiwoo boy ready to ship, I decided to order this Shiwoo boy and a Chiwoo elf girl. I assumed wrongly that both dolls were ready to be shipped. My aim was to put the Shiwoo head on the girl body. Totally back fired :XD:. I received the boy quickly as he was in stock and waited for the girl for months... The result of this was that I got used to my will-be girl being a boy, and ended keeping both dolls. :doh

    9. Yes, it was at the time. Later on, more realistic dolls came up and I thought about changing the character to another doll, but I never did as I do actually love her (she's a customized CP Chiwoo):chibi

    10. I don't actually have the first doll I purchased yet... And may not have her for years to come yet - the waiting time is abysmal. But it's worse it because it is my grail doll - I wanted her for over 10 years now... Not likely to change my mind any time soon. I did end up grabbing a second doll, with more reasonable wait time and because I like her a lot and there was a big discount on her, so it was really a good time to get her. So the first doll I'll get in my hands is going to be one I really like, while the first one I bought is a grail for me.

    11. Yes, and I loved him, but unfortunately he was too big and heavy, and the lack of clothing options I liked kind of ruined it for me.

    12. Absolutely. I had been wishing for her for a long time and one day I went to a doll show (usually never go). There she was, for sale, exactly the one Narae I had been dreaming of with her butterfly smile.

    13. I wanted my first BJD so badly, and she lived up to my expectations. I still have her now and I’m quite fond of her!

But my first doll of any sort I didn’t want at all. I was a kid and I wanted plastic farm animals and Pokémon cards. :p Little did I know it would put me down an entirely new (and expensive!) path!

    14. Blueblood Genx Nile still want him still till this day can't find him anywhere.

    15. I feel like I forced myself to like my first doll. I was 14, saving up money was no easy task with almost no income, and I didn't have the guts to order or buy dolls from overseas, so I had to buy a doll from another hobbyist. There was not much to choose from, so I kind of picked the one that fit my budget and was right size and sex.

    16. Yes - I knew I needed to buy him from the moment he was announced, so I bit the bullet and paid for both him and another doll that I had been considering purchasing second hand (the company did a re-release of him at the same time). It took about a year from payment to arrive and I was NOT disappointed when they came!

    17. Yes! As soon as I knew that Volks was going to release a collaboration with The Rose of Versailles, I decided that no matter the cost, Oscar would be mine. Lucky was on my side, because a friend of mine could attend the dolpa and get a nice spot to enter the limited shop. Once he bought her for me, I had to wait him to come back to my country. Oscar travel safe in his suitcase. :D:hug:

    18. Not particularly, to be frank. I saw a cute doll on eBay, made sure it wasn't a bootleg, and I purchased her. The reason I bought her was because she was affordable and available and I really did love her when I first got her but over time, the charm wore off and I found other sculpts I found more to my liking. I felt bad but taste changes over time and I have a bit more money to buy more detailed dolls.

    19. My first was ResinSoul Ya. I couldn't afford a more expensive doll, Ya was really expensive to me at the time. I thought she was meh, but was hoping that I'd grow attached to her once I started crafting for her etc. When she got here I couldn't bond at all. I don't know why, but I find it really hard to bond with dolls that are very pale, which is most BJDs. I like dolls that look like me (medium skin tone).

    20. Honestly...he was not! A friend of mine had planned and ordered her doll first--this was back when Dream of Doll had a set of MSD boys based very generally off of the Four Symbols--and we thought it would be neat to collect them all among ourselves and friends. Turns out I was the only one who jumped along that peer pressure plan, as the first doll I really wanted was Cerberus Project Yder.

Which was apparently okay, since joke's on me and all; I still have my Wi. I never stopped admiring his tall pointy noise and gently serious eyes. He'd have to be pried from my dead body.
