1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Difficulty shopping for BJD items due to online censorship

Nov 30, 2025

    1. Hello!!! I saw recently on the news that Shein was selling sexual dolls that looked like little girls. Now it’s very hard to find bjd clothes, wigs or even Blythes in places like Aliexpress. So I would like to know if someone knows of this only affects stores from China or it’s something bigger.

pd: all my dolls are legits but I saw a girt saying on facebook that she could not buy a Blythe doll from Aliexpress

    2. I saw the changes too, especially coming from the EU.
For example, recently I found that the word 'bjd' was sort of banned from aliexpress, all the dolls with this name have been renamed simply 'doll' and I also see more ads than before that specify the doll is authentic in the sale title. Actual recasts have pretty much disappeared as well from the whole website where I live (and if you click on a link from google, it says it's unavailable in my region).
The whole sexual dolls scandal with shein had a pretty bad impact and I think at some point the whole website was banned from some european countries, at least for some time, and I think in part that's what involved these changes. I also heard about an extra tax for any item coming from China to the EU for 2026. They really are against any sort of counterfeit I think
So overall, that's a huge change, but a very positive one, aliexpress was probably one of the easiest access to recast dolls, so it's good that measures start to be taken, at least in some countries (I don't know if the same applies in the US or outside the EU for example)
The only "annoying" thing is that some customisation items or outfits (the 1/12th scales one were pretty qualitative in my opinion) are also restricted (a part of the items I had in my wishlists are now unavailable, same applies for eyes or wigs), it's all been mixed up in the restrictions somehow, so that's a shame if there was nothing "recast-related" with these items but it was a necessary change in my opinion.

    3. As for the China-EU customs changes @Lutopienne mentioned above - it's a crackdown on low-value imports that local offerings can't compete with, and chinese companies undervaluing goods and therefore skipping on import and duty fees. Here's a quick explainer. Basically the €150 de minimis will be scrapped and everything imported from China will be taxed from the 1st euro from 2026 on, with further measures put in place in 2028. It's not exactly related to the counterfeit/adult doll issue, but of course the Shein discovery accelerates research on all the systemic risks from similar companies. Importing from China will get more expensive for the end consumer (us) but it's also been ridiculously cheap so far so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As for the availability of doll goods at the moment - I think we'll just have to wait and see. It's probable that goods will come back on sale once there is more info or more exact regulations in place. There were also some changes regarding importing from China to EU at the end of last year that impacted what was available from AliExpress and similar, that seems to have slowly changed back by now.

Edit to add a disclaimer: I can only comment on the EU side of things and don't know how all this impacts aliexpressing etc in other countries - so please don't take this as blanket info :abambi:

    4. I'm wondering now, if that's the reason why Tumblr flagged a lot of my non-doll, non BJD, and some BJD related posts on there as mature content. Despite me being a thousand percent against sexual content of any kind, and avidly block anything remotely sexual related from my feeds, whether they are dolls or not. They even flagged a giant headed Decora Girz doll I repainted, that has the largest head on planet earth, to be considered anything but alien. Not only that, but she's fully dressed! I thought it was hilarious when Instagram did it a few months ago, but it was extremely annoying to find several of my toy hauls flagged, even a post with a Sasuke Uchiha clear file (a flat piece of plastic that looks like a folder), with a shoulder showing, as "mature content." Just a few hours ago, I saw these things flagged for no reason. Now I"m wondering if it's due to this issue with Shein, which I didn't even know about, because I've never shopped from there, and I only purchase doll hair from Ali. DX

    5. Oh, no, Tumblr did that independently! They've been working on the mature content labels this year from way before the Shein thing and it's been a dumpster fire from the get go. They rolled out new updates this week I think, that have somehow made the bad flagging even worse. It has all tangentially to do with the Digital Services Act/Online Safety Act, yes, but Shein or Aliexpress did not cause Tumblr to be like this

    6. I was thinking more along the lines of "if there has been inappropriate sex-dolls on the news lately, maybe places like Tumblr might want to censor any and all toy/doll-like content, for any and no reason." I didn't believe Shein or Ali had anything to do with Tumblr. More like what's on the news might be making social sites paranoid about dolls. I might come across as an utter fool, but not that bad. I had hoped. DX

    7. I think the issue with Tumblr specifically is that they've been using AI to detect posts with potentially mature content, and-- naturally-- the AI sucks so, so bad at it. I've seen so many random posts flagged for no reason: Kingdom Hearts cutscenes, screenshots of online stores, just anything under the sun... If the AI is so bad at detecting things that it flags Xemnas (adult male) (fully clothed) (no skin showing because his hood is up and he has gloves) walking down a ramp for three minutes as mature, then I can see it looking at something vaguely skin toned and going "AHHHHHH!!!!!!! NOOOOO!!!!!!!" lol.

    8. I've heard of this thing and I'm a bit scared that the EU will just go realistic anatomy = sex doll and blanket ban everything that qualifies including BJDs. I've got a doll coming in a couple months and after the sudden BJD ban I admit I got a bit nervous. It makes no sense but this sort of policy usually gets implemented in the stupidest possible way. There will also be implications on further barbiefying of dolls in general, like what happened with China and dingding parts.

    10. MODERATION:

Please be aware that Den of Angels has strict rules about discussing any dolls that are not legitimate, this includes not only recast BJDs but also bootleg dolls of any kind. Even off-topic dolls must be legitimate.

While aliexpress and Shein has wigs and clothing from sellers with no ties to recasts/bootlegs many of the sellers sell both illegitimate dolls alongside their other offerings. Den of Angels does not allow the promotion of any sellers whose offerings include recast/bootleg dolls.

If any of the Blythe dolls being mentioned here are not legit dolls made by Kenner, Takara, etc or distributed by Junie Moon - then regardless if they are considered acceptable in the Blythe collecting world, they are not acceptable here.

Please remove any mentions of illegit dolls from your posts at this time. (use the Edit feature)
And for our newer members, please refresh your memory on the forum Rules regarding recasts.
It is better to know the rules than jeopardize your account.

    11. I haven't had issues buying anything yet but the other day I was trying to look up fairyland's Instagram account to find the posts they made of their dolls animated with AI cuz I was complaining about it to a friend. The account is cp_shrapnel and when I tried looking it up Meta blocked the search because they thought the "cp" in the username stood for something else... I felt so incredibly awkward and am now probably on a watchlist somewhere lol

I was actually wondering this too, I've noticed LUTS keeps coming out with muse bodies for their different doll lines and was wondering if this shift was due to censorship

    12. I am in the US, and it's been like that for ages for me, not because of possible new law changes in the EU. I also felt a bit worried when I saw that pop up... I was just trying to look for a doll account, augh!!

    13. From the end of last week, a bunch of doll related items I had in my wishlist/cart (eyes, wigs, clothes) are no longer shipping from Ali-express to the UK*. Other people in the local BJD doll group are also seeing the same issue. However blind box dolls, BJD recasts etc are still availble to the UK. Does anyone know why those kind of doll accessories are being hit?

I wondered if there was some new UK/EU law that came into force last week but can't find anything that should suddenly effect those specific things right now. Or is there some China to UK shipping issue that's happening at the mo? I've been searching everyday for info but can't find anything other than older stuff around the sexualised doll issue or future plans to charge import tax which won't happen until 2026/27.

(*I ordered two pairs of eyes last month, one pair shipped but the other has remained unshipped since the 18th so I suspect they've been stopped due to whatever is causing the 'can't ship to the UK' issue. It's a bit frustrating not knowing whats happening.)

    14. I asked the store on Ali where I got shoes for my dolls - Sweet Janie - and here's the answer I got from them:

      "Hello,
According to the recent feedback from French regulatory authorities, the platform's human-shaped Doll products (such as BJD Doll) may involve risks of se*ual innuendo or inappropriate content. To actively address potential legal risks and ensure the platform's compliant operation in the European market, the platform will implement temporary control measures for related products in the European region in the near future."

"The products related to BJD Doll are under review by AliExpress. You can pay attention to the store information."

    15. i as well noticed how barren AE became for doll stuff but I thought its because of tariffs that sellers just wont ship to US anymore

    16. It was really bad those child-dolls. I dont like to search items on AliExpress and see Always sexual Toys or sexual Dolls. They should really abolish thoze things and check more what their Sellers sells in more efficent and Safe way
. if some wants sexy Toys should find these immoral things in apart websites not in sites what are used by everykind of people that not all luckly want to see such things Always in front of the eyes.
      .
Is necessary a human controls of materials so that the researches are Always good and eliminate only what cannot be seen .
