What attracts you more: the head mold or the faceup?

Dec 16, 2005

    1. At first I had a bit of trouble getting past the face up... some times I didn't care for it and just wouldn't even consider the face mold... but I finally made myself realize that you could CHANGE the face up if you didn't like it, haha

    2. Well... a good face up can change the way a face mold look DRASTICALLY... so... face-up for me. ^ ^

    3. I look for mold first, then face-up; but sometimes I find a doll I like based on the face-up

    4. If i like the mold blank, ill almost definitely like it with a face-up.

If i don't care for the mold blank, I need to see face-ups to see how the aspects I don't like look when they aren't resin completely resin-colored :]

      mold first though.

    5. At first it was the faceup but then I started noticing just how different a doll could look with different hair/eyes/face up. Now I look for the mold instead. But the faceup is always a plus ~.^

    6. mold firsts. face-up is of course important, but if i don't like the mold, i will only say that is beautiful but not attractive. if that is a mold i like, even it has a so-so face-up, it's still attractive me:)

    7. I have to like the mold before anything else... if it's an ugly mold no matter what face up is has I won't like it. but I am attracted to the face up as well. I think it's got to have a nice combo of both to bring out the doll's beauty. I've seen awesome sculpts but with a horrible face up it makes the doll look tacky and sometimes whoreish (Unless you like whoreish!!!)

    8. If there's a mold I don't care for a faceup isn't going to make it any better. So I guess the mold is more important out of the two. Don't get me wrong. I do enjoy a good faceup. I just tend to see them as more of icing on the cake. ^-^

    9. it's hard for a faceup to look good on a mold you don't like, so they are both equally important, IMO. I've seen sculpts I love with faceups that just kill the look for me.
I got Lahoo because his sculpt is so unusual, but my Too, I find his sculpt rather plain. He has the default faceup from DOD though that really makes him look cute. So it can go both ways.

    10. It's both for me.

Sometimes I see a doll with a really pretty face-up and I'm like: OMG WANT!!! Even though I never like the culpt before.

Usaully, when I'm looking for a doll I like to look at amature/very plain simple face-ups. I can pay better attention to the sculpt and not the face-up.

    11. I agree with this point thinking of all the possibilities of color even women use to paint themselves a face:|

      Laoky

    12. I'm the kind of person who goes only for defaults... so I guess I hafta like the joint effort of both mold and faceup... but I do go for a certain little boy look (wow, I sound creepy...) on my dolls. It's why I like LUTS so much...

    13. for me, its the mold. certain heads can be extremely versatile depending on the faceup, and its the coming together of the two that make the doll perfect. the head is really the base, though.

    14. Face ups definitely drag me in! I think that the face ups add so much personality to a doll. Just looking through the data bases there are so many different looks to the same mold. I am always amazed by that. Molds are also important too though, there are just some molds that aren't too my taste no matter what the faceup.

    15. i complete agree, all molds look like to me. >w<''
so it would be the face up that gets me. but sometime its the mold too or in the cases of centaur and animals, its the body.

    16. Kind of both really. A faceup on a mold I don't like will not make me like the mold any better, but without the faceups they all look lifeless and unattractive to me, so the faceup needs to be present in order for me to tell if I like the mold or not.

    17. Head mold, definintely. I always try and see the features beneath the face-up, cause I always do my own face-ups. It's the sculpts features that attract or repel me. A face-up can be fixed easy-peasy. Looking at a blank head is like looking at a blank canvas for me. I can see what I want it to be if I can see it blank.

    18. Head mold is the important one to me, hands down. I've only ever done my own faces, and that I can is a large reason of why I like BJDs.

I need to see a head blank before I decide if I would like one(which is an issue when it comes to limiteds), though I like plenty of dolls that have already been faceuped...but I don't ever think 'ooh I want one.'

    19. Oh I'm a mold girl. (Wait... mold ew) I mean scult girl.

I do my own faceups, so the mold/scult has to be what catches me. It sad sometimes when I fall in love, then realize it was just the faceup... :(

    20. this is a hard one for me to answer.
It'd have to be both for me because I've seen some really ugly molds with good face ups. but also really ugly face ups on really nice molds.

most of the time I look at the mold, simply because the mold is the main expression of the doll, if the lips are smiling then no-matter the face-up the doll will still be smiling. same with eye and nose.
plus face-up can be removed but ugly mold can't unless you buy a new head. :sweat
