What attracts you more: the head mold or the faceup?

Dec 16, 2005

    1. I am very picky if it comes to heads.
So I prefer the head mold. Especially because I do the face-ups myself. A different face-up can change the doll a lot, so I always look at blank heads too, to be sure I like the mold.

    2. Hmm... that's a good question. Usually, it's the mold that calls to me. But I have seen a few face-ups on dolls that I don't normally like that made me go :ablink:

    3. Its the mold to me. In my opinion, a bad doll with a good face up will always just be a bad doll with a good face up. A good doll with a bad faceup however can easily be changed and underneath it is always the doll I love, so no worries.

    4. Head mold. I could re-do the faceup 11tybilliontimes, but if I'm not happy with the head, the faceup will never be right.

    5. I'd definitely say the head mold. Of course, head mold and faceup are closely interwoven to me; if the headmold has enough versatility, the faceups will all look radically different. And that's important to me; I like when a doll exudes personality and doesn't look like every other doll of that sculpt ;)

    6. I guess for me it's both @_@ Good head mold with good faceup makes me like the doll xD But I may say that sometimes the faceup makes a head mold really beauty xD So... I think I choose the faceup xP

    7. Definitely the head mold, because I'll never buy a doll with a pre-made faceup unless it's secondhand and even then I'll wipe it. The reason I enjoy BJDs is because they are fully customizable, and that appeals to the art geek in me. Getting a pre-made faceup is like getting one of those porcelain dolls; pretty to look at, but not really 'mine'.

Which isn't to say that I don't enjoy seeing what others do with their own dolls, because there are some supremely talented people out there, but anything done to my doll needs to be personal, otherwise he'd no longer be mine.

    8. It's hard to say, I think they are both as important as eachother. Sometimes I can see a custom face on a doll I don't like then suddenly think it's a nice doll.
When I was photoshoping the 'face up' of my lastest doll it looked better on one mould and not as good on the other. I really do have to say both are important.

    9. its is the both for me, the mold give some dept and the faceup can really give details.

    10. I'm more attracted to the faceup. The heads can look so different depending on the faceup that sometimes they don't even look like the same sculpt to me. (Maybe because I'm seeing most of these in photos instead of in real life?)

    11. definetley the head mold, the face ups can be just beautiful but since the can easily be changed, I tend to go for the molds more.

    12. The head mold definitely catches my attention, but it's usually the faceup I find more appealing.

    13. Head moulds would catch my attention more than face ups. I tend to overlook heads that have very beautiful face ups but moulds that don't appeal to me. Face ups can be changed from time to time so it is not as significantly important as moulds. But head moulds that catch my attention and have great face ups, would certainly impress me.

    14. I'd have to say it would be a combination of them both. If I see a doll with a terrible face-up to me it will make me think 'gosh that doll is hideous' but then when I see that exact same doll with a different face-up it would make me think twice 'oh that doll really isn't that bad it's actually really pretty' so I think a face-up can really make or break a doll.

    15. Faceup! No doubt about it... you can love and hate a doll that has the same head mold but not the same faceup. I'm sure faceup is very important.

    16. For me it's both, but for the one I have and the one I'm getting it was the face mold. I didn't care for the face up on th one I have though I rather like it now, and I fell in love with the bodyless face up less head of my the one I'm ordering.:fangirl:

    17. When I'm deciding to buy a doll, the impact of the head mold overrides that of the faceup. I compare the same mold with different faceups to see if the mold indeed attracts me. However, I'm a big fan of the official faceup from the doll company. Thus, if the faceup on the official website is really fascinating, I'm impressed the most.

    18. The sculpt. Very few faceups really knock me out that much. I have bought one or two heads on the basis of the faceup and how it worked with the sculpt, but faceups are meant to be changeable and can wear and chip, so I'm not going to base a pricey decision on that.

    19. The head mold is what attracts me. I like head molds that I can picture a different variety of faceups on. Faceups catch my attention but the head mold is what ultimatley seals the deal for me.

    20. I think it's a combination of both. However, the face itself is always more important to me than the face-up. If you have the right head, you can paint it, or get it painted however your heart desires. However, no matter how good of a face-up artist you are, or get, you cannot change the structure of the doll itself. You can "make an illusion" but that's still not the same.
