What attracts you more: the head mold or the faceup?

Dec 16, 2005

    1. Ahh....for me, it's definitely the head mold. No matter how beautiful a face up is (And I know some are absolutely GORGEOUS!), if I don't care for the face shape/nose/mold, it won't matter to me what the face up is.

I'm super picky about the face molds----mature, long and slender is what I prefer. I don't like the super cute/youthful molds, so that's what counts for me. ^^

    2. well it could be a unattractive head but the face up could make it a beautiful doll and the other way around as well a beautiful mold for a head but an ugly face up destroys it

    3. same here,to me face up plays more important role,,

    4. I think the mold is more important to me, but a faceup can really make a difference in deciding to get a particular doll or not~ ^^

    5. Head mold is the most important. You can change the face-up and make the doll look like whoever, but the headmold is pretty consistent (without heavy modding).

    6. When I first started this hobby, both the face-up and the head mold were a factor in what I liked. I didn't really know how to look at a head mold and figure out how it would look without a face-up, or at least one that is different. My first doll was bought with this mindset and she wasn't quite what I expected when I finally got her (I still love her to death though).

After becoming more familiar with BJDs, I mostly look for features that I particularly like in a doll. I try not to like a doll just because of a face-up, especially because I highly prefer to do my own face-ups. When I bought my second doll, I had much more of an idea as to what she would be like in person, and doing her face-up as a result was that much easier.

    7. For me it's a combonation of both, the head mold can be perfectly pleasing, but if it has a strange face up that dosen't compliment the mold then it just dosent't work for me. I like the face up to match the mold it's on.

    8. The head mold attracts me more. I'm looking for certain expressions and facial shapes.

Though I do think the face-up is also important.

    9. I always try and look at the dolls facial features, before purchasing as I usually change the face up later anyways. But I do think that a great faceup and wig can really sell the doll to you.

    10. The face-up attracts me first, but the head mold is what makes me stay. There are certain features in molds that I don't like too much, and no face-up (even if its super beautiful) would completely change that. I think it's kind of like with books (forgive me, I'm a bookworm..^^;; ). The cover catches my eye and draws me to it, but it's the contents that matter to me more. :)

    11. I guess it is both, the combination of a beautifull sculpt and a fabulous faceup makes a great doll. But a face up does not seem to last an eternity, a mold does (I hope). No matter how lovely some face ups are, if I don't like the shape of the face, it won't really work out for me.

    12. The head mold has to be the right shape and maturity for me, then the faceup enhances these attributes. If the initial mold is too young then I'll skip over it, despite how lovely the faceup may be.

    13. if i don't like the head mold in the first place no face up can change that for me. though i've seen what good face ups can do to about every head.

    14. Definitely the head sculpt. Face-up's can come and go, but in my book, I have to like the head sculpt to buy it. The face-up helps also, if I like it too.

      =]

    15. I find the face mold better, because when I'm looking at heads, I think they would look better with a different face-up. If the head mold isn't right, I don't think I would buy it.

    16. Omg TOTALLY the head. Before I buy a doll *actually, still waiting on my first XD * I look up any pictures of the doll I can, with other face ups. And for some reason, the dolls I pick always look better *to me* in other face ups than the defaults they come with, not that those aren't good ;D

    17. It used to be the faceup, but now it's the mold, for sure. . .

    18. Usually when I see a doll I like, before I add it to my wishlist I look for a bunch of faceup styles so that I can see if I really like the head or just the way it's painted.
Headmolds are more important to me, because not all faceups are going to look good on a doll.

    19. There is one doll I have seen so far where the faceup is one of the reasons I am going to try to get the limited version and that being...... Pipos Cheshire. Their limited faceup are so gorgeous and it adds so much personality to the doll that I am not sure I can replicate!

    20. A faceup is really important, but the mold is the foundation. I would never buy a doll unless I liked the mold, faceups come and go.
