It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What attracts you more: the head mold or the faceup?

Dec 16, 2005

    1. The sculpt definitely. It used to be the faceup, but that has changed for me now. For example, I used to not like any of AoD's sculpts because I'm not a fan of the face-ups they have put on their dolls. Mine even came with a faceup that his previous owner did that made him look horrible. But, in cleaning it off, I realized he's actually a really pretty sculpt. After that point, I stopped looking at only the faceup and started looking at the head under it. The shape of the eyes and lips is the biggest thing for me.

    2. i love face ups, but if the head mold is not good, it's not good either, so i think both should fit together ;-)

    3. It would definatly be the head mold! And if it has closed or dreamy eyes that just does it for me XD im in loooovvveeee

    4. The mold over all, not just the head. When I was first getting into the hobby I was attracted to the face-up, then I realized the face-up of a doll can and will change. So when I find a doll that I like on a company site I will always always always check the picture gallery the doll here on DOA to make sure I really like the doll and not the face-up I saw on the site.

    5. I have to love the sculpt itself. You can always redo the makeup, but if you don't like the doll underneath then what is the point? Not to say I don't love a well done faceup, but I always like to see the sculpt blank before I buy. If it isn't appealing to me without all of the cover up then I don't like it that much.

    6. I think it is a combination of both the head and the face-up. I love big eyes (or extra-small eyes), funny noses, and cheeks that welcome a healthy blushing. I love getting face-ups from certain artists for those special molds. Some companies do their molds justice with lovely face-ups, but others really do not and sometimes that's hard to see past when you're looking at dolls all the time. There are heads I never considered that I have seen in a new light with the right face-up.

    7. Definitely the faceup. Long as that is good I can appreciate any mold.

    8. For me, it's both. XD If I look at a doll's mold + face-up and think it's really nice, I'll go ahead and find for owner pics. <3 And if the owner pics are awesome, I'll dig deeper about the doll. ^^

    9. Most definitely the faceup. Hard to tell what it will look like if you aren't a face up artist.

    10. I think its a mix of both for me, its like dz's Raphael - when I first saw him I wasn't taken but when I saw his blank mould I thought he was nice, he even wound up on my wishlist - but I'd totally do a different kind of faceup for him. (and byron too, although I don't mind his default faceup) :)

    11. I think Im the oposite of you in that matter really. I see a gordeous head mold and just think what I can do with it. If I see a butt-ugly face up on a potentially gorgeous doll I look it up at flickr. Like when I bought my doll: I hated the faceups I saw but knew she would be pretty in the end :3

    12. I think if you can do faceup or plan on trying them then the mold should be more important, but if you don't do faceups then I can see why the default would be the deciding factor. I've seen so many dolls who's default faceup didn't do them justice, several of them I would really like to buy but, although I plan to try my hand at faceups myself (just waiting on the arrival of my Yuan head to practice), I don't feel confident ordering them just yet without knowing if I can do the faceups at least reasonably well =)

    13. I am definitely attracted to the head sculpt. Since I have done face ups and will only have my own, the mold is what attracts me. Eye openings can make it or break it for me.

    14. The sculpt, definitely. I do admire a beautiful face-up, but since I look for dolls that can embody my characters, the shape of the face, the lips, nose, eye shape and the expression are infinitely more important than the face-up. Also, I have only once come across a face-up that was perfect for one of my characters, and that was the one on my Scarecrow Hal. In that sense, face-ups *are* important, because they truly turn the sculpt into my character - but it's never the main attraction. Apart from Hal, all my dolls get a face-up by me, and my face-ups do the job, but they aren't nearly as nice as some of the works of art I've seen around here :).
