What attracts you more: the head mold or the faceup?

Its the headmold for me, I like to imagine face ups on my favourite headmolds. The face up doesnt change my opinion on favourite headmolds, even if its crappily done. Maybe it's because I know that with a good face up, it will be beautiful.

 

Headmold! Though a beautiful face up on a headmold I don't tend to like can sway me into appreciatin' that mold more.

 

I have a story like that about wigs...! BF Niky (ver.1) I didn't even look twice at because I hated the wig. Once the site re-opened with the new wigs and such, I actually changed my mind about getting a Sarang and am now getting a Niky.

Normally it's the mold (There are loads of molds I just don't like, even if I love the faceup), but sometimes I love the mold and hate the faceup. So I guess I'm a mix of both.

 

I'm the same. XD It all depends on whether the face-up is nice or I already like the head mold itself.

 

Both because you cannot create your imagined character without having the proper headmold and proper face-up. ^^

 

Depends.With the Dolkot Kiss, I'm soo attracted to that makeup. But with AR GitD I was so very hot for the face sculpt. Seeing other faceups does help to evaluate the way a mold works though.

 

depends... i fell in love with DZ Feng's mold despite the awful faceup... OTOH, i'm in love with my friend's AR faceup and want to stick it on my doll... and looking at the lipgoop on the new Volks SD13 Ciera makes me want to cry. i guess i think a bad faceup can ruin a good mold, but it can't rescue a bad one (look at the newbie throwing around the opinions! )

Have you ever seen a head mold that you thought you didn't like, or to put it softer, that you didn't really think anything special of... And then one day, someone posts a picture of a gorgeous doll, and your mouth drops open when you see what mold it is?

I've had many of such experience, especially recently. Grantly, as doll lovers go, I'm pretty new. I've seen dolls around for a few years, but I really started liking BJDs and wanting one only around May of last year. So I can't really say I've seen a lot of dolls. (Though I do browse the galleries obsessive... ) But many times I've seen a doll that I thought I didn't like, and suddenly just from one or two people's photos, I feel like I want that doll.

At first, I even didn't really think much of CP Delfs, even though I became curious about dolls again after seeing one. But yet, after seeing more pictures, there're a few of those on my wishlist now. I didn't really think much about a lot of the Volks dolls, but yet, a lot of them are really starting to grow on me, just from some photos. I used to think that the CP Nanuri head was... funny-looking. (Pardon me, Nanuri lovers!) But after looking at it again and seeing a picture of him that oddly resembled a Korean actor that I rather like... Nanuri doesn't look that funny anymore. I used to think that Hounds were too angler and lanky. But after seeing some pictures posted by Hound owners, I'm thinking of getting one of those boys someday. Of course, there're still a few things about these molds that I wish were different or that I plan to considering modding, but seeing different photos have really changed my mind about which dolls I liked and didn't like.

So... I'm wondering if anyone else had similar experiences. I'm hoping it's not just me and my being apparently randomly close-minded. u~u;; So share please~ Reversely, if there's a doll that you thought was absolutely gorgoeus, but then... after seeing some pictures, you really didn't think it was that great anymore, feel free to share that too.

 

ditto for nanuris. they make rather fetching girls XDDDDD i also completely fell in love with minifee shiwoos after seeing all the owner pics. i thought lishes and shalls were completely overrated whilst Sha and EL were friggin hot at first without the slightest idea that i had fallen in love with the male counterparts of the sculpt for the longest time XDDD i've gained a newfound respect for the female counterparts now but the guys are still in my top three for the wishlist

 

I'm no El lover, but some face-ups and photography angles make my jaw drop! It's just a hit or miss for me with the Els xD

At first I didn't care 'bout Chiwoos, but then after seeing a photoshoot of thesaraghina's Emile I completely fell in love with the mold *points at signature*

If i hadn't already decided on a MNF El for Wufei before I saw Xaviers pic's i'd prob gotten one too.
Usually for me it the other way around.
I love the pictures but when i see one irl, i'm disapointed in its look.
Unless its a really nice looking one, then it usually takes a minute or 2 to bite through that feeling and after its love all around.

 

Oh, I do that all the time. It's actually quite a common thing for me not to like particular sculpts at first, then spot a series of gorgeous pictures that really turn my opinion right around. It's happened with so many Volks girls, Juri, F-17, Mini Fees in general... just recently Bernard... the list goes on.

On the other hand, once I do like a sculpt I don't tend to go off it, really. If I see bad pictures of a sculpt I like, I'm more likely to write it off as simply that: bad pictures of one particular example of that sculpt. It doesn't affect my feelings towards the sculpt in general, however.

 

Hum, when I fell in love with Angelregion Little Fair Dana I did a lot of internet surfing to see how she looked in differnt face ups, wigs, etc. I guess for me it was the face and not the make up ^_^

 

There are certain types of doll head I would always hate, no matter what kind of faceup they had... of course, I like some dolls because of their face-ups (some small Narins, Unoa Lusis' and such), but what I mainly look at are shapes of features. Like, what shape of the nose, of the mouth, and such.

I guess the headmolds and make up... XD I fell in love with Si and Wi from DOD but end up bought Tender Zen which I'm so luck to have. Her face can express lotsa thing. YEAHH... Head molds and face!

 

Both headmolds and faceups attract me...I mean,even the most beautiful headmold can look bad with a wrong faceup...On the other hand i saw many headmolds that i don't like with different faceups and they were pretty good looking...So i say both XD

 

For me it's the face-up and over all look of the doll. I often times dislike even the sculpts I own. But, what really draws me to a doll is a complete image of style. Well dressed and well painted dolls, with suitable wigs, eyes, face-up, and clothing draw me like a moth to a flame.
