1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What attracts you to a doll?

Nov 8, 2012

    1. For me, I have a decent variety, but more often than not, these features draw me in most:

      -SD
      -male
      -adult proportions
      -larger nose
      -environmental resin
      -larger mouth
      -smaller or lidded eyes
      -big hands
      -well detailed body
-single jointed torso, with the line along the rib cage
      -long arms (no t-rexing!)
      -skin that isn't pink
-affordable price. not necessarily cheap, but a price I'm able to budget and justify
-blank pictures, since I always do my own faceups
-pretty or at least decent joints
      -good poseability

I can bend on some of these, especially since things may vary due to character needs, but it's almost always the masculine SD boys with larger noses that make me stop and stare. :)

    2. I really look at their faces. I like endearing faces or innocent ones. I also like the men to look like men and the females to look like females. I don't really like odd proportions either. Posability is a must as well.

    3. This is what I would like to day too, but you explained it so much better than I could have :)

    4. For the faces - apparently dolls that look like me. 2 of my dolls have been accused of being mini-mes. Totally not what I had in mind, but in hindsight, I can see some similarities, like rounded oval, facial shape.

    5. I tend to gravitate towards sculpts with shapely/full lips and smaller eyes XD

But overall what really attracts me is a doll with character; when you look at them you know everything about them, a face that tells a story :D

    6. I'd have to say face first, body aesthetics second, poseability third. The face sculpt is usually the first thing that draws me to a doll, but if I'm not crazy about the body I'll do a hybrid. For bodies, I love curvy bodies for girls (especially with curvy legs). Now they don't necessarily have to be bow-legged like say, the Minifee cutie legs (knowing I have a girl with those already, lol) but I like a natural curve and flow to the design that's reminiscent of human musculature. That being said, it is a major turn-off for me if the body doesn't pose well or is only single-jointed since there are so many double-jointed options now. Another thing I see on a lot of dolls that I'm not a fan of is the awkward joints where extra pieces of resin that cover the "peanuts" in the knees and elbows stick out like fins when the joint is bent. I know clothes generally cover it, but I don't like seeing that ridge of resin when the doll's in a tight-fitting shirt or leggings.

    7. The face is important to me. I don't like big buggy eyes so I guess I'd say I like a more realist face. And lips...they set the mood and emotion. I have to love the character and I like them to have struggles and flaws.

    8. Elf ears obviously attracts me, though of course the face makes or breaks it, Other then that I do like girls with wide hips and natural looking breasts that looks good nude. (though I have bent the boob rule)

    9. I really don't know. All of my dolls are so different so I can't say if a certain feature is what attracts me to the doll.

With billions of dolls out there and you don't like the 99%? wow! =D I think the look of the dolls is 100% on the owner. You just have to make it your own. Now the shape is another thing...

    10. I really like 'dolly' dolls, like Volks' earlier sculpts and AiL. Something with more stylized features, simple joints, and chubby proportions. I also really like more expressive, 'art' doll inspired dolls such as Angel Egg and ShinyDoll. The tactile feel of the doll, its weight and the texture of the resin, is also important to me (which makes buying a new doll from a company I've never held in person a real crap shoot!).

    11. Like lots of others said, usually the face; eyes and mouth particularly.

    12. Like for many others, I find the face very important. I want a soft serenity in my dolls. <3 The body is also very important, I'm not too keen on too much muscle or curves, but that's my personal choice. ;)

    13. I just love pointy, long noses and .... hamster cheecks.

    14. I think it's the size that is most important to me. I like tinies. Other than that, I just gravitate towards some dolls more than others, and those are the ones I buy. Hard to say what about them I find attractive. Some just stand out to me.

    15. For me it is important what person a doll. A person must be a living, with emotions. It is important, how to sculpt the body, the fingers. Doll has to be in motion. Recently in dolls I like tender, a little bit sad children's faces.

    16. Mouth shape for me :fangirl:. I really like detailed mouths, especially the more 'full' look.

I also gravitate towards female dolls (well I currently only have Dollfie Dreams, but even now while I'm looking for a tiny to take home, I'm only interested in the girls). For some reason, even if it's the same sculpt, I don't really have any interest in boys *_*. I guess it has something to do with the company make-up? I really like colourful and soft, girly make-up and males seem to have more monotone colour palettes and more solid lines.

    17. Usually realistic, mature sculpts ... but ... sometimes, just something really different or quirky to spice up the collection. :)

    18. Certainly Facial features, maybe the sex of the doll, I seem to like more girls than boys :)

    19. The face -- each of the dolls I've gotten has had a face that spoke to me. I remember when I got my MSD, it was simply turning a corner and being gobsmacked. I had no plans whatsoever at that point to get ANY MSD's. She came home with me, then I ordered a body for her second face plate.

I also want dolls that fit in my BJD story line, human only.

    20. My main attraction would be the face. If I like the way the facial structure is, then I will definitely be attracted. Another plus is the details on fingers. It's really weird to say, but I love dolls that have nice fingers. For example, some of Doll Chateau's dolls have a delicate look to their fingers, which I really would like to purchase one day...
