What attracts you to a doll?

Nov 8, 2012

    1. I would say that the face is generally what catches my eye....but has to be a whole package as well. I am new to the world of bjds...but not to dolls...and I would say that most of my dolls it was their face I fell in love with and couldn't get out of my head. I also am a big fan of knees...which on non-bjds can be oh so cute...so joints are a big adjustment to me...I like the idea of posing but the 'open' joints are not as appealing. Course as you can see...I am here...so it is something that can be overlooked ;)

    2. An appealing face and articulation. I have to like the face and expression, or it's a no go for me.

    3. Absolutely it is the realism. The more realistic, the better. My favorites are Iplehouse EID's. Although I am finding myself more and more interested in fantasy critters which is why I fell for a Doll Chateau centaur.

    4. Hmms, what attracted me?

I've been observe for dolls collection since I went to anime-cosplay convention at 2010. I always took photos of them. It's feel so good to have a mini-model we could adore and dress up how we wanted it.

Plus, carrying doll nowadays seems a cool trend.

Thus last year I got my doll, Chiyo.

    5. I love dolls that don't look to human, if that makes sense. I don't want anthro or anything, but dolls that don't look 100% realistic really draw me in. Doll Chateau, Dollpamm... either creepy or stylized!

    6. The timelessness of the dolls, if that makes sense, and the fact that they can be what I can't, any fantasy race that is around :)

    7. I'm a sucker for big, round eyes. I don't like certain eye socket shapes.

    8. What really catches my attention is their eyes and lips. I am not a fan of big eyes, mostly i prefer the sultry, bedroom-eyes which are very dark and have long lashes. That's also why my doll has them, ahah. Also the shape of the lips are something what is a big deal whether I buy a doll or not..

    9. Fantasy elements! That and articulation + posing. I'm building a little unseelie court, so the dolls have to be unusual in some way for me to consider them. Their particular facial sculpt is not nearly as important to me as their body + unusual elements. I feel like I can make basically any face work but I'm not skilled enough to mod something into a centaur or naga, for example.

    10. In a doll I am attracted by everything! Its mobility, look at a certain foreshortening, well and certainly features, and when on a face correct face-up, it a hundred times more coolly!

    11. It's all about the face for me. I'm one for realistic faces, and I love faces that seem to have character and look different from other BJDs. Oh, and I like my men masculine. How masculine? Iplehouse Dexter and Dikadoll Alder masculine, that's how masculine. As much as I do like anime, I don't like the anime aesthetic on my dolls, especially my men.

As bodies go, it's hard to pin down the aesthetic I like. I can only say for sure that I don't like hip joints, as most end up looking like perma-panties and interrupt the midsection in a way that I don't like. And yet! I do love Mirodoll's small bust SD lady body, which has that joint. I guess all I can say is that I decide as I go what I like in a body. It's not as important to me as the face is, hurr hurr.

    12. I'm shallow…LOL! I like cute, interesting, pretty or personality driven faces but not the "character" faces that are "weird?" I love POINTED EARS and fantasy creature human hybrid dolls ;)

    13. Oooshhh. I guess for me, it's more of a general "I like this doll", or I don't- there's no middle ground.
Basically, it's facial structure, and eye shape (they play the biggest role), then the body shape (I love more realistic bodies, rather than the "classic" bjd body- give me Iplehouse Rexy and dem curves ;D), and then it is the actual colour of the resin. Some resin colours just don't gel with me. But hey, horses for courses ^^

    14. Chubby cheeks and little barely-there teeth.:)) I also love expressive sculpts. Features must not be too realistic(I appreciate those too but not for me to own). But those are just a few things, Personally I will really only know when I see them. And i can be quite picky.:c As for bodies, they have to be aesthetically pleasing but at the same time pose like a dream.a "humble" chest area(meaning its just right... Nothing huge.><) And of course, a good variety of hand gestures.^^ also I must add: heel feet/legs option please!

    15. Doll with an edgy face is my thing, realistic sculpts are kinda my weakness as well.. Body wise I think posing abilities are important as well as nice proportions of the body mean a great deal..

    16. The inner beauty ... :)

    17. Definitely their sculpt (and how they good they look in their company faceup too for some)! I also tend to prefer the teen looking ones :3

    18. Their versatility. I like looking at owner photos and videos to get a feel for what I can do for it. If it can be an angel one minute then a devil the next, I dig it. :3

    19. Expression and overall aesthetic. I like all my dolls to all feel like they 'fit' together, which means my very first criteria for dolls is 'would this match my current collection?'. In general, this rules out anime-styled dolls and dolls with exaggerated features, as most of my collection is realistic. The nest criteria is 'does the doll's expression have character?'. This rules out a lot of dolls which are a bit blank or boring. I prefer dolls with subtle expressions - slightly sad, or slightly worried, or slightly happy. Sometimes I make exceptions for expressions which are a bit more extreme but still subtle in another way (like my Beryl, who has a strong expression that's about halfway between anger and sadness).

Most everything beyond this is moot - if I like the aesthetic and like the expression, I like the sculpt.

    20. I'd say the face, but recently the bodies have just shot me right in the heart. If a doll is really posable, It's great, but if I look at the body and just swoon, that's it that's the doll.
