What attracts you to your BJDs?

Oct 23, 2011

    1. I definitely like BJDs with a more realistic look, which is why I am so partial to Iplehouse. I don't think I've ever come across any other type of doll with the potential to look as true-to-life (except for reborns and the like, which are too realistic for my taste). I also love the ability to change things up easily if the character changes or you just get tired of seeing a certain wig/eye color on your doll. Then there's the posability, which adds an extra element of customization and realism. For whatever reason, I also love the weight of the resin. I have other kinds of dolls that weigh less than my Erzulie and are over double her size. Not sure what it is about that, but it makes her all the more appealing to me.

    2. With Cesavier it was the cheeky expression in the company photographs. He was the first doll to 'pop out of the page' at me. He seemed to have more personality than the other dolls.

With Seraphine it was the sharp, full lips and slightly narrow eyes.

With Neeko it was the kind eyes and smirk combo that won it for me alongside the long thin body.

With my SD Mo it was the fact that he looked like an older Seraphine. >.>

    3. I'm attracted to face-up, its mostly the face, and then body and size (height-wise). I look for boy dolls that look girly yet like a cute boy. A doll that can wear lolita type fashion or 18-19 century frills without it clashing with their face.

    4. The face was definately my reason for buying my doll. Also the body is important too. If it doesn't look good, the doll doesn't either.

    5. With me its always been the face, I suppose its the same as in human attraction its the face you see first and make your first judgements about. I thought I would only like "totally human" style dolls. But somehow or other I bought a Feeple65 with elf ears and thought I was going to be a costly mistake but no after I got over my first trepidation I now love them! So who can fathom out attraction in dolls or humans?

    6. The face, proportion, and height of the doll effects my choice. I have very clear characters in mind so I look for those characteristics when I pick a doll. I also prefer real-life looking dolls, ie Iplehouse, Soom Idealians. Since the ones that I prefer are big...I really have no choice in price...big dolls are expensive. But I did get a YOSD and forced a character into her, which didn't work out all that well...

    7. What attracts me to my BJD is her mouth, it's super cute and pouty lol. It makes her look very innocent.

    8. When I find the sculpt that fits the mental image I have created for a character, I get overjoyed. I look for everything in a doll that I thought would best reflect my characters. Honestly though, not every doll is perfect for their character, but things can be adjusted, or you can accept the difference and even use it for your character instead.

    9. It sounds weird, but the negative space around the silhouette, and the joint system. Not that i don't like simple jointed etc, (I <3 my little bobobie). I just love when the lines and the flow of the doll just seem to look amazing no matter how you pose the doll. I cant forget the face! It usually just clicks. I just look at the face and know it needs to be mine.

    10. The first thing that attracted to me BJD's in the first place was how they look, how very human some of the sculpts looked and their lovely eyes. When I found out they were ball jointed dolls and that you can pose them and customize them I had to have one! The thing that Attracted me to Resinsoul Mei (who I've just ordered and will be my first doll) was her face, faces are really important to me, I loved her cute little features her big eyes and her nose and the expression she wears she looks happy, cute and very innocent the elfish ears where a bonus because of the fantasy aspect and they make her look even cuter. I've ordered her on a Rong body as it is double jointed so she will have the extra pose ability. I'm really looking forward to getting my Mei and seeing her beautiful little face in person! :D

    11. It's hard to say because I love different things about my dolls. For Isaac it was his tattoos. For Phippa I just loved her freckles. For Tifa I was enchanted with her face. For others I love looking at fantasy dolls and I guess what really attracts me the morpst I guess would be their face or if they had really posable bodies.

    12. All of my dolls are based on characters so I'm constantly searching for ones that will fit what I've imagined. Face sculpts are the most important for me but bodies are a close 2nd. I actually selected my DC boy based more on his gaunt body than his face (though I *love* his face). Size is next. Most of my dolls are 70cm and I like to keep that consistent. I don't put much thought into whether or not they're super posable. If they are- it's a big bonus.

    13. When I first got into BJDs, I was attracted by their beautiful faces. I don't really know what it is but they were just flawless to me.. And then, I finally worked up the resolve to order a doll (Doll Leaves Myron - He should be here soon, I hope... along with the ADAs) because I absolutely loved his face... And then there was DOD's Homme Ivan on the marketplace and I jumped to get him because I have always found DOD to be beautiful. After I received him, I was just soooo elated because his nose was the cutest thing and he seems like the type to pout and whine about everything I do (such as when I'm working on his wig wefts and he's just sitting there bored out of his mind..).
Well, aside from those I've ordered, I am in LOVEEEE with Doll Chateau and hope that I can get them one day... I love the way they look. It just seems so strangely attractive to me and I have so many things I want to try out with those dolls. I actually have DC Alberta on my top list of who I'll be ordering next... Haha. :) I wish the ADA was still available because she is just the most adorable thing I've ever seen and having the Alberta/ADA pair would just be fantastic...
Also, I've recently fallen in love with Bobobie/ResinSoul dolls... They are just... Wow. Fantasy dolls are just something that I really wish to have. In fact, I've fallen for so many of their dolls, such as Mu, Pi Dragon, ect.

I feel like this hobby will be the death of me. Pff. I don't want to have too many, as I feel I won't be able to bond with all of them, but it feels as though that might just happen to me because I'm in love with so many. I guess I'll take things one at a time. :)

    14. Price, I can't afford very expensive dolls, so I rotate around cheaper companies (but my favourites are iplehouse and fairyland). I'm planning to buy a Bobobie Sprite or a Resinsoul Mei for my very first doll, as they are both beautiful and affordable!

    15. for me it was her adorable face, I love everything about it, that she has large eyes and the shape of her mouth (the teeth are just a bonus) and she has a really cute profile too
I also love the size of her head, it's too big for some people but I think it's just right
and I love her how simple her body is, it has the perfect amount of detail where details are necessary without being overly realistic
the only things that I wish her body could do is touch her face and sit in the suwarikko pose but those aren't super important

I'm not now nor have I ever been wealthy but price really is the last thing I think about when looking at dolls, if I love it enough to want to own then I can/will save up for it

    16. narrow thin long nose, cheekbones.. his eyes has interesting shape. everytime i look at his face i almost squeaking out loud =D

    17. For me face is the first thing. I don't have any specific feature that attracts me (like a particular shape of eyes or mouth), I rather consider the entire face: has to tell something to me, show "personality" or suggest me something to do with the given features (I rarely bought a doll to leave his face-up intact...or a doll that wasn't blank. I found make face-up as a really bonding and fun activity, too!.) Body comes immediately after. I spent an amount of time of time observing naked dolls's pictures that's almost embarrassing! Proportions must be persuasive to my aesthetic perception, or I'll not consider the doll.
Last but not least, I have a fixation for cat anthro BJD... and showing nice, interesting cat features it's surely a way to make me fall in love! That happened with my Mian Mian...but I considered a lot his buying, he was quite pricey for the financial possibility I had in that moment and also tried some "face-up" modifing his blank stock photos, because I didn't like his factory make-up...

    18. The attitude, feeling, or emotion, I see in their face.

    19. I really seem to like dolls with big eyes, and stylized faces. I'm not attracted to super-realistic dolls at all. I have two bobobies, and am working on getting a Resinsoul. I also like whimsical fantasy dolls, like my dollzone fox and my recently ordered dollzone Eudora. When I bought my first doll, a bobobie Apollo, I fell in love with his nose. I also like relatively simple face-ups for my dolls, but elaborate ones are beautiful to look at it. The face definitely comes first, since I can handle a body that doesn't pose as nicely. I'm also not very picky about skintone. I basically find a doll that I think is amazing and decide to get it. There's nothing very specific that every doll MUST have.

    20. I think it should happen like when you fall for a human... You can't really tell why you are so attracted to the person, but you're just like somewhat in love. There are no reasons when it comes to love. I tried to use my brain only and getting it by criteria but it never worked. Now i fell in love with a sculpt (not quite now, 3yrs ago) with the awful body, but didn't find a betted option for hybridisation. I could never expect this from me before, but though i'll still be looking for an option, i actually accept it's body from now. If there's no other way, I will love it as part of the dolly-person i fell in love with, with all the imperfections. I don't want them to be perfect now, i want to care about them and just love them simply... I switched to this attitude recently and i'm happier with my dolls than ever. Now they bring me warm feelings.
