What attracts you to your BJDs?

Oct 23, 2011

    1. Face sculpt and I need to see 101 owner pictures as well before I make my decision. I'm not a fan of super realistic dolls, I definitely enjoy my more stylized dolls. Next is posing, I want them to look fluid and beautiful in any pose. I want double joints. Price doesn't matter for me, if I want it, I will save.

    2. I gravitate more towards fantasy and anthro dolls, but face sculpt is a huge draw for me. I really prefer a sweet face.

    3. So why do you love the style, size, shape, ect of your BJD?

      Size--Large-- Prefer mature sculpts, more choice in clothes and items if 60cm-70cm.
      Style-- I like them all, just about-- Anime-ish (a bit), definitely cute/chibi, realistic, fantasy, highly stylized.

      I've got a ton of dolls in a wide range of styles and sizes, so there's a lot of different things that I love.

      Do you find your self gravitating to one type of face or another?

      Well, I do have preferences, but definitely not only ONE type. :D

      Does the bod have to be "prefect" for you to even so much as LOOK at the head? ect.

      No. Body sculpt is important but doesn't have to be perfect. Head doesn't have to be perfect, either, but is slightly more important than body. And slightly more weight to sculpt than posing...

      I want to know why you bought the dolls you bought! :3

      MUSTS--
      1. Head sculpt I love.
      2. Body sculpt I love. Needs to look somewhat correct anatomically and nice aesthetically.
      3. Doesn't have really weird joints and can pose decently. No big flaws like weak joints, thin resin, very uneven color, etc.

      and then...

      * Elf Ears, I love.
      * Interesting resin colors.
      * Cute little Anthros.
      * Horns, Hooves, Claws, Fangs.
      * Big Handsome Guys
      * Big Beautiful/Pretty Girls
      * Egyptian Gods
      * Fairies
      * Handsome Monsters
      * Fairytale or Fictional Characters

      All need to be very nicely done according to my tastes... but I'm easy, so I like a lot of different things and am not all that picky. It's way too easy for me to like a doll, basically! *_*

    4. They are my characters personified in resin.

    5. So why do you love the style, size, shape, ect of your BJD? Do you find your self gravitating to one type of face or another? Dose the bod have to be "prefect" for you to even so much as LOOK at the head? ect.

      I fell in love with the Hound as soon as I saw him. This was back in 2007, so he has that reallllllllly OLD Dollshe body ( Wow, old picture! ). I loved the body because it wasn't that detailed, but not completely "doll-like." His stomach is the most precious thing ever, and his hands are still my favorite BJD hands I've ever seen. The Hound face has that beautiful, slight smile to it. He's not completely pokerface, he has a nice versatility to him! So...I was drawn to my first doll by pretty much everything. He ended up being the perfect size for me too, I love handling big BJDs! They're a bit heavy, but it doesn't hurt my wrists to play with them, like the little BJDs do.

      My second doll was a Doll Chateau Agatha. I loved the DC dolls because they have such a unique, bizarre look to them, but I wasn't that excited to own one originally. Maybe in the future, but that was it. But when Agatha was released, I couldn't resist! She has a really beautiful face. I love her full lips and her eyes, she looks so confident. I'm glad I didn't get her with the company faceup, because I don't think it does the sculpt justice--it's way too heavy. I'm very glad I got her, I love her face sculpt and it's wonderful having the new K-07 body! Unique and beautiful!

      So...I'm not sure what I'm drawn to, specifically. I would say that in general, my favorite sculpts tend to be a bit more...specific? I guess? I don't like BJDs with the round face and big eyes...they all look the same to me. I like to see details in the sculpt! High/low cheekbones, full lips, tilt to the eyes, etc. I want them to look unique.

      As far as bodies are concerned, I also like the finer details. I don't like BJDs that seem to have that blocky feel...they're too much like "dolls." I want veins in the hands, curves to the limbs, and so on! Not to say that I don't love some of the less-detailed bodies, but I just wouldn't spend such an amount of money for them like I would more detailed bodies. :)

    6. So why do you love the style, size, shape, ect of your BJD?
      I like the younger BJDs a lot. That's not to say I would turn down a DZ girl if she were handed to me, but for the most part I find that the dolls of others that I like the most are the cute little ones. Or magical elves and such.

      Do you find your self gravitating to one type of face or another?
      Welp... I got my first girl because I couldn't pass up her perfect elf ears, but I really like dolls with serene expressions. My family is always up in arms, so having a calming presence is always beneficial. I've yet to purchase a doll with a really strong facial expression. I think PongPongs are cute because they look happy, but I don't know hat I will ever have a grumpy doll. Of course, that all excludes sleeping faceplates.

      Does the bod have to be "prefect" for you to even so much as LOOK at the head? ect.
      Depends. I love DZ bodies, but for a kid, I'm going to be dressing her up anyways, so as long as she has a little chubb,we're good.

      I want to know why you bought the dolls you bought! :3
      Haha pretty much all of the above. An Elven cutie whose presence will make me happy. Also because my bf says her face is cute. ><

    7. I am fickle but usually I like the 42-45 cm dolls with full lips....like Fairyland Chloe. She is my current flame..LOL! I look at the face first. I wish I knew what attracts me to certain ones, as then maybe I could be more careful. And I love ears too. :)

    8. Mostly sculpts. Especially if they're fantasy creatures of some sort with pointy ears. I also look for good posing ability, which is why I usually buy from companies like Fairyland and Soom. Gorgeous sculpts, fantasy creatures, and excellent posing.

    9. At first, I was attracted to BJD because of their beauty, which I believed everybody were. I still remember my first time seeing BJDs on Dream of Doll website, I was like: "OMG!", pretty faces, awesome outfits and above all, these dolls even have expression. I love it, so much. Then I found out many other BJD companies like Fairyland (ended up 2 dolls from them), Iplehouse (1 from here), Lati (1 from here also), Soom... The more I knew, the more I was attracted to them.

      However, after 2 years in this hobbies, their beauty after was given a enchanted face-up became my infatuation. I love to face-up more than having a new doll, or if I bought a new doll, it was because I wanted to take photo of that face-up later. Through them, I can express my skill and more than anything, show my emotions that I can't tell anybody. That's why now i would buy a new doll due to the sculpt more than their appearance after getting by company, hahaha.

    10. Her Serene look. It calms me down everytime i look at her <3

    11. Looking around at this crew, I seem to be most attracted to anime-esque "pretty boy" dolls with relatively large eyes, dark hair and mildly amused expressions... Plus the occasional no-nonsense girl, cherubic chibi troublemaker or tall, mournful weirdo.

    12. Totally the face, if I dont think they're cute, there isnt a point in getting them, its the part I look at the most when I play with them as well. The body type is secondary, even tertiary to eye and hair choices.

    13. To have my ideas and love in a tangible form, not to sound creepy or anything. XD

    14. Yup, it's price for me as well, but I also look on the feedback for the doll I'm going to bought because I don't want things like cheap=junk.
      Fortunately, it is not and it's quite popular too. I feel that I have made the right decision and I was so happy when it arrived.
      Beside price, head also become an important factor for me as well.

    15. My first was a MNF - I bought her because she has a basic kind of body, the head was pretty AND the seller was in my town so I saw her before the payement.

      My second (is, she arrives on Monday !) a Leeke Valentina - I bought her because of her body and skintone.

      I would like to have a huge variety of dolls at home : Variety of kind of bodies, variety of skintones.. But all the same size ! So, the body and the skin are the first things that I'm looking when I plan to buy a doll.
      I'm not really looking at the price except if the price is really indecent.

    16. I prefer stylised, big eyes, cute sweet face looks, so face is the most important factor. And girls only. Body is not important except that the size must fit the age of the face. I guess other things I may mind is the sculpt of the arm and hands because I think it can give the doll a weird look if its disproportionate. Think homuculus.

      Looks is already covered. So the other points are price and availability. Should not be exorbitantly expensive and fairly easy to acquire.
      I bought a Bluefairy Tiny Fairy WS Sarang. The sculpt is not limited production so it was readily available. Did not really have to have the white skin but I heard the possibility of a white choice was coming up, so I waited and decided to get the white skin version since it was not that much more expensive than the normal skin.

    17. Found myself to be more drawn to MSD dolls with small heads, because they're just the right proportions, and the price is better for me. I also tend to love Tom-boyish girls with voluptuous, mature faces, and bodies. Dolls that are more life like instead of cartoony.
      I love seeing others with cartoony or childlike dolls, I think they're lovely and cute. However, I wouldn't want them for myself.
      Don't know why, but I prefer my gang to look like adventurous and daring young adults. For guys, I'd prefer them to look a lil more wicked/ mischievous, and for the girls I'd like them to have somewhat seductive expressions.

      Also, since my dolls are based on RP characters that are loosely based off of friends of mine, I get pretty excited to find ones that resemble my friends in some way. Familiar facial features are a plus! Love dainty hands, smaller semi squinty eyes, small heads, hidden joints, well toned/ shapely physiques, wider noses (on guys), and sometimes pointy ears. Over all, they have to look a bit dangerous.

    18. The first BJD I ever saw was someone's post on FB. It was IH Akando and I was completely and totally blown away. I had no idea such gorgeous creations existed. I am totally attracted by realism and details and so figured I'd only be buying the big IH dolls.
      And then I discovered Doll Chateau . . . *sigh*

    19. I get attracted to the doll as a whole, and the potential it has. I love unusual shapes and unrealistic shapes. Doll Chateau or Lillycat Cerisedolls for example.
      I love the long, slender bodies of Doll Chateau-dolls. Reminds me of otherwordly, ethereal beings. I also love super curvy dolls, big hips, big breasts, full thighs etc. I also tend to like the one that has a defined face more. Plump lips, slanted eyes/full eyes, cheekbones or a cute nose. I look at all dolls as a blank canvas waiting to be painted. with stories, faceups and the like. Currently owner of one BJD, but will certainly acquire more!

    20. Definitely interesting expression and good proportion. But I guess manly I go by the feeling, you see it and you love it.
      When it comes to body it needs to move well and look somewhat realistic :)
