1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What comes first - the backstory or the doll?

Aug 11, 2013

    1. For me it's dolls first, with the one I have now she still doesn't have a consistent character or story thanks to me never agreeing on one thing :sweat I don't know, after getting a new doll I just find making the character a part of the fun, plus in person a doll can give you all sorts of new ideas for their personality even if you had some in mind.

    2. For me it's doll first. Usually the story comes when I have the doll in front of me. Sometime it goes well with the other dolls, the story will expend.
But there is also time that story comes and I go get a doll to visualize it.

    3. I usually have a backstory for my doll before I buy it, but it is often influenced and inspired by the sculpt itself. I have also experienced that day dreaming scenarios have led to the idea of a completely new character. One day, for example, I was picturing my Bluefairy boy playing with mini lego and then the idea of him playing together with an older brother emerged. The older brother turned out to be a Bluefairy TF Robin and his personality also as I pictured it in that little imagined scenario.

    4. For me it's the doll first, and then the story. I will create a story as I play with my dolls. I might have a general idea of what it would be, but the finer details will come with playing with them :)

    5. The first four of my dolls have gotten their backstories the moment I laid my eyes on them, but my newest doll has had her backstory for far longer than her mold has even existed. :)

    6. When I'm actively looking to buy a specific sculpt, it's usually because I've decided it fits an existing OC. But sometimes the doll's style will evolve in a way that no longer fits that character quite as well, or I'll get tired of the character itself. In a few rare cases it's resulted in me losing interest in the doll itself, but I find that I'm usually pretty happy with the new character the doll has "developed."
