Thought I was going to love huge 70cm+ dolls when I first saw DC Mephisto, and Dollfie Dreams. Now I'm almost glad I could never afford dolls in my teens because 70cm is just too much and too mature looking for my liking, and anime dolls are out because I haven't watched anime since like 2015. Could *maybe* be convinced to customize a small one to be a Miku though someday.
I thought I'd like tiny dolls best and super realistic sculpts only. Turns out I like 1:4 and 1:3 the best, adore certain fantasy sculpts, and I can't bond with realistic/mature sculpts unless they have soft/cute features. Trial and error, and had to sell some dolls
I started the hobby with interest in slim minis, but ive found myself playing with my smaller 1/12 scales more. Even though I adore my larger dolls, I can't see their quantity approaching that of my small dolls. I'm even considering branching into 1/6 minis even though I was trying to avoid too many scales xD
When I first started out, I thought I would only like human dolls with realistic skin tones - I still do, but my tastes have gone towards the strange and unusual now. I've got a vampire w/ green skin, a head with tentacles coming out of his mouth and eye, and a cyclops octo cat coming home soon-ish. Definitely didn't expect this of me last year
I recently got a DreamValley Esther I was so incredibly stoked because I love birds and harpies and she is gorgeous I still love looking at her but oh my gosh I HATE playing with her Every time her wings touch anything I feel nervous and shes not fun to handle
I thought I’d want a minifee. I joined the doll hobby in the early 2010s with monster high customizing and when minifees were all the rage. I was a teen at the time without BJD money. I remembered loving all the minifees on Instagram at the time. Instead I’ve now found a love for FID adjacent type dolls and similar type hybrids that are a lot more mature and especially love curvier girls! I have an Impldoll Anya head on a milk cap body which is pretty much the definition of my type of dolls. I’m so excited to see more brands coming out with more mature 1/4 scale girls with smaller heads like Impldoll (Anya and Carlee specifically from my collection) and some of the newer options from the xagadoll blue obsidian line ( I love my liuli). My love falls somewhere between msd and fid territory
