What do you think of 'mini mes'

Aug 15, 2022

    1. I've been thinking about maybe getting a doll as a sort of little persona of myself, that I can dress the way I would like to dress or even outfit match. Does anyone else have a doll like this? What are you thoughts on it? Is it strange?

    2. No it’s not strange, it's a very cute idea! Twinning outfits with your doll is pretty common and there’s a nonzero number of people who have dolls which are outright intended to be “of them” and not just match outfits. There have even been official outfit releases for twinning by lolita fashion brands where there’s a human size version and a 1/3 version for Super Dollfie or similarly scaled dolls.

    3. Personally I wouldn’t get one of myself as it’s not my thing I don’t think it’s weird :) If you want to do it GO FOR IT!
I do love minimees of celebrities or characters tho!

    4. I have a fashion doll mini me, but feel like a bjd would be too expensive for one for me.

    5. Oh my gosh that reminds me as a kid i was obsessed with an off topic doll i wanted as a mini me. I hadn't considered it yet for a bjd but that seems really cute

    6. I have twinned with my doll at a convention, wearing matching outfits, but the doll doesn't match me in any other way. I have purchased dolls to match my children or grandchildren, but never myself.

    7. A mini-me of myself would be rather boring haha (I wear the same simple, dark clothes every day) but I have definitely seen collectors on Instagram, etc. mentioning styling a doll as a "mini me" so I know it has been done - I think many people would be familiar with the concept and not think it strange. It sounds like it could be very fun if you enjoy dressing up and can find matching outfits in human and doll sizes.

    8. My personal wardrobe feels very drab but there are styles of things that I would love to wear but just wouldn't fit/don't think would look good on me irl so the idea of being able to dress a tiny version feels like it could be fun and maybe even a little way to work on wearing more fun clothes if that makes sense!

    9. I definitely understand that! It could be a good motivator to try new things.

I hope that if you pursue the idea you'll find the perfect doll!

    10. I like the concept (and have done it before kind of). I don't think twinning or having an exciting wardrobe for the doll is necessary to enjoy them either, it really depends on what appeals to you.
I think it can be a way to feel more positively about yourself, or to relive nostalgic memories.

    11. I like to give my dolls little pieces of myself. This often comes out as a personality trait but then you have ones like Wynnie whose style is based on myself as a child. I tried making a doll mini me before but I feel like I have too many sides to myself to truly capture into a doll so breaking it apart and giving something of myself to my dolls/characters helps me better develop and understand them.

    12. I don't think it's strange at all! In fact I think it's really cute :3nodding: While I might not have a mini-me myself, when it comes to their characters, all of them have a piece of me and their clothes/styling reflect different sides of me too. I think you should go for it. :)

    13. I think it’s a wonderful idea, and one that should be explored and enjoyed certainly! As for myself, at the very beginning of my adventures in this hobby, I wrote in my profile that, “by telling the stories of my dolls, I tell the story of myself.” And it’s absolutely true! I’m an older collector, and I’ve already lived a long and eventful life. I’m past all my cosplay and reenactment days, preferring to dress for comfort nowadays. So being able to explore all forms of alternative fashion with my dolls has always been a big part of the experience for me. And from the very beginning, I made their characters a nostalgic expression of my life experiences, both good and bad…in a healthy, more fantasy way. Let me tell you, it’s been way more fun than keeping a life journal!:)

    14. I think it's cool! A great way to express yourself

    15. If it's so normal that there used to be an entire company based on the concept (My Twinn dolls), I think you have nothing to worry about. I've also accidentally twinned with a doll before- using scraps from "people-sized" projects to make your dolls' clothing can have that effect -and the photo was very well received on social media. Go for it!

    16. I love that idea!! I've thought about doing it before, but I change my hair up way too often and I wouldn't wanna keep buying a million wigs lol! I also just have no idea what sculpt I'd go for.

I agree with everyone else here that twinning seems so fun too! I've haven't gotten to do it yet though because I have yet to find matching outfits. (I don't sew and all of the ones I come by are for American girls and larger dolls)

    17. I definitely want to create a doll who dresses the way I wish I could dress.

    18. I love them! Pictures of people “twinning” with their dolls are my favorite!

    19. Getting a doll that is like a mini-me feels like an impossible task, so I always enjoy seeing people with doll versions of themselves.

    20. There's a popular sculpt out there that looks reasonably close to my face. Enough so that I briefly owned one and put him in a wig resembling my own hair for a joke. But ultimately, the idea doesn't personally appeal. I own dolls because they aren't me. If I wanted to dress myself to the nines, I'd just spend that money on nicer clothing, instead of cutting some corners in exchange for hobbies. Lots of people do it though, all across doll and figure hobbies. My favorites are the ones who shoot full photostories with their toy 'personas'.
