1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What do you want Reseach & Development to work on?

Jan 25, 2007

    1. Some headcaps are magnetic ^^ I was totally jealous when my sister's MSD Manabu arrived... and his headcap was magnetic XD It's awesome. Doesn't budge unless you want it to.

I agree about the headplate thing x___x My boy's finally came off - I was far more distressed than I should have been.

    2. As an aspiring dollmaker, I'm glad to see that a lot of the things people want are things I'm already working on: Ethnic diversity, nicer-looking joints, and putty-free eyes. :)

And of course, yellowing. I'm hoping the particular materials I'm going to use will delay and minimize the (pretty much inevitable) yellowing, but it's hard to be sure. I'm considering holding off on offering any white-skinned dolls until I can do a long-term sun exposure test.

    3. I LIKE THE JOINTS!

Even if dollmakers see this thread and take it into cosideration, I hate it when a company phases out one body with a new one that is completely different. I wish more companies would have available on their website "'old' and 'new' bodies for sale, unless the first one were replaced because of a MAJOR problem that jepordizes the company's reputation. My example would be Dollshe, because I love the mechanical look of the Version 1 bodies and I really want one... (whine)

My point is that doll companies should remember that there are different tastes for everything in the bjd market, and not replace things that appeal to one taste with something that appeals to another. Example: Sure, make bodies with subtler joints, just keep selling the old ones with the big 'ugly' ones too! (Wishel's system is a great model, btw, they have tons of choices for ever single piece, and I'd love to see more of that!)

    4. mmm, I second that ^! But in regards to the Iplehouse boy body. I really really love my - now OLD - boy body without that darned torso joint just under the pecs. If my Ichigo gets any damage, I won't be able to buy a replacement, he'd have to be moved to a completely different body. :...(

The new darker skinned Iple boy looks like he'll be gorgeous, but I just don't like the upper torso joint. So I probably won't buy him.

Oh, and raising my hand on wanting more ethnic options. More Asian style male heads! I love the eyes of that DIM Rain Real head, and others that have half open eyes.

What I DO like? The shift towards more buff boys. :) The more muscley arms and torsos.

    5. Better functionability in joints is always something to strive after. I like joints though, but there is always room for things to get even better.

Smoother joints, more detailed body sculpting, different handsculpts, different feetsculpts are all things I would like to see. I also have to second the mature and tougher look for girls, also more realistic sculpts. I would also welcome "Uglier" sculpts with more character. This is not to say I want the more pretty/anime/childish cculpt to disappear or go out of production, I just want to see more realistic sculpts in addition to the diversity already out there.

On the other hand I would also love to see more mythology, more animalheads/ sculpts, mermaids/men, weird bodies and just plain different dolls.

I love the fact that for some dolls you can get open eyed, sleepy and sleeping headmolds.

Generally available optionparts would be great.

    6. I wish Volks sold more optional hand styles. I wish BF sold optional hands, period.

I like seeing joints. ^^; And I'm happy with current headsculpt styles, so I hope any trend into "realistic" sculpts won't cause what's out now to disappear.

    7. oohh I like this idea I second it !! and faceplates like Narin dolls would be nice

    8. I'm so with you on this. I would love to see a female body with some muscle definition on it. There's nothing wrong with the delicate girls and the large busted ladies, but having a more... sporty female body choice would be nice as well.

    9. For companies other than VOLKS.....
More stablizing in skin color, composition and material porportion of resin, joint scuptureI think.
And for some pirating copmanies....Please create your own models.....=.=b

I wish VOLKS could release 13 Girls hand options.......I really don't like the idea of standardizing the hand parts for girls in 10.
The hand of 13 should be slimer than the 10>_<

    10. More complex joint systems would definitely make BJDs more fun ^_^

    11. Well, just a side thought... If I can buy tabi feet, why doesn't Volks sell shoes for said feet?

I'd like to see more body options... Volks makes boys with standard legs or long legs... why not the girls too? And I need more hands! And...hmm... I love sunlight skin, but I'd like something a little darker-toned. and more "happy" dolls. Most sculpts tend to look serious, content, or kinda malicious. I want a happy-go-lucky daughter!

    12. I would like to see optional Hands for SDC boys and SDC girls.

    13. i would like to see them work on improving the tanning process and eventually come out with darker-skinned dolls.

    14. Hmm...
*Tan dolls you can sand.. 8D
      *More skin colour options
      *More flexibility in posing
*Different body types from the same company.. Like; skinny, more toned bodies, for both male and female would be awesome. (What Lati is doing with their Blue line boys is great!)
One of the things that might stop me from buying two dolls of the same gender from one company, is the fact that they'll have the same type of body, even if one character is supposed to be skinny as a twig, and one's supposed to be more buff ;)

*I have to agree with what other people have said: having many different optional parts and replacement parts easily availible to order would be fantastic.

*More companies should have something akin to the FCS, as well as Wishel, where you can essentially build your own doll: an option of double joints or single, 'cute' knees or normal, hand and foot style, large or small chest, etc.

*Also, the easier to string, harder wearing elastic would be wonderfull. I find one of the absolutely hardest parts to be stringing the arms, and getting them to tie up nice and tight.

*Resin colour stability, as well as resin strength are both quite important.

I really hope that some companies take our opinions into consideration- we'd all be very happy customers!

    15. I have an iplehouse body for my boy and option hands would really make my day.

But what is more important to me is not having to wait a long time. I wish doll companies would cut down on thier wait time overall.

    16. Nicer looking joints with greater poseability would be nice! Also more hand options

    17. I would like less ugly looking knee and elbow joints with a good range of mobility still. Also I agree on a wider range of readily available skin tones. More adult female dolls without creepily huge and fake looking breasts. This is one of the main things that puts me off buying a female doll. Some sites 'small bust' options are even huge. @__@

Shizen: I agree about how bad the Volks website is. That was the first site I saw when researching BJDs. And it was so not user friendly that I put off buying a doll for two years. Then I found the Dollmore and Luts websites and realised the hobby could actually be buyer friendly.

    18. I know you were talking about one website in particular, but I have to totally second this and say that a lot of websites really need to be seriously looked at. I'm not going to name name or point fingers.

I don't know if it's a browser compatibility issue, or my monitor size, or if the sites really are oddly designed, but there are some places I don't even want to browse because it's just so hard to navigate the page. Especially ones where it looks like it was set up using a blog template. A little QA using different browsers before launching or publishing the pages would really help.

There are also a few where the thumbnail photos are sized oddly so they're distorted -- the aspect ratio is off, so they're stretched or squashed. Or just displayed so tiny that I can't really tell what I'm looking at, which means I'm less likely to click through for details.

It's shallow, but it matters to me (probably because I do QA and documentation/publication for a living). You could make the statement that they put all their care and design into the dolls and not the site, but a less-than-attractive site can make people wonder if they're skimping on details elsewhere.

I realise this isn't exactly a "research and development" thing at all, but it's something that needs to be worked on.

From an actual "R&D" point of view -- I agree with magnetic head caps and an easier way to move the eyes.

    19. I agree with replacement parts! It's pretty easy to find hands, but what about elbow or knee peanuts? wrist balls? single piece of arm or leg?

Also, heavier dolls. not actual weight, but I'd LOVE a chubby boy! Not "soft" like some out there, or childish. but like....an actual fat guy. Or girl!

And also, (and I know there are full discussion threads on this) male dolls that don't have baby penis syndrome! I mean, I get that it can't be huge for clothes to fit and that's fine! but when it's significantly smaller than his thumb, it squicks me out, looking at these child parts on an adult doll. Or if it's poorly sculpted. The rest of the doll is beautifully made, why stick a tictac between his legs? It's like having this gorgeous, well sculpted head, but making the mouth carved with an exacto knife, smiley face/stick person style.....

    20. Ohh yes! Curvy girls and chubby boys.

Also, some mature, short dolls. There are some great heads that are for 70cm dolls, but they generally won't work (in fit or look) on a shorter body.
