What doll size do you consider most "fun" ?

Sep 29, 2013

    1. I've only ever had one doll (I'm owning my first) and he's 52cm so he's somewhere between MSD and SD, I feel. I love him to bits and pieces, but even though his size is really handy, I wish for a bigger doll. I think also it depends on what you want with your doll. I know people that bring their dolls everywhere, so in that case it's more handy with smaller dolls to fit in your pocket or backpack. For me, I want to do stuff TO my doll, and so, getting smaller than 52 cm is, I think, borderlining to too small. I wish for bigger, because it's easier to sew and make stuff for the doll then, getting stuff looking more authentic.

    2. I have to say I love the SD's for their look and possibility, but the YO SDs are so cute too! It's hard to choose I would take them alllll!

    3. I thought my first doll would be around 40cm. But after finding the doll I've been eyeballing since I saw his Soom pictures, seems I'm getting a 70cm to start off with. It'll give me a good feeling as to whether he'll be too big or just the right size. Personally, I find myself leaning more towards the 40cm's.

    4. I'd say MSD and smaller, especially YOSDs and tinies, they are smaller and easier to carry around UvU

    5. Currently I only own a Yo-SD and a SD and I honestly have so much more fun with my SD. He's really fun to dress and I love love love cuddling him (something that's a little difficult with the Yo). For me, the Yo-SD's cute to have and can sometimes be fun to play around with, but I definitely prefer the bigger sizes :D

    6. For me, the SD size is easier to dress up :fangirl:
But YoSD is my best size to play with. I put them in my dollhouse and I can decorate their room too.

    7. I have a range of Minis and Tinies (some standard MSD and YoSD type, a Puki, and two of the slender/more mature ResinSoul 1/6 size); I enjoy all those sizes, but the ones I'm most likely to pick up and fuss with or carry off to an event are the tinies (the Littlefees, specifically). They're super cute, very poseable, and extremely portable!

    8. This is a good thread... I'm window shopping my first bjd right now. I was almost certain I'd end up with a Fairyland or LUTs 40cm. Then, whilst researching other companies, I fell hard for this sculpt from AoD. She's 60cm! I think it's too big for me. Especially for a first time owner, but... that face! After hearing all the SD praise in here, I'm convinced she's my girl so thanks <3

    9. Ah, I've always had a thing for the big dolls so somewhere around 60, 65cm is nice. I like girl dolls. ^_^
This size is just nice to hold. I actually really like the feel of the weight. It's substantial. I also like sewing for this size because I can add more detail in the construction of the piece itself, and in the fabric before it's too thick and stifles the doll. The size of their hands also just feel good in my hands. Silly things like that. Hehe.
As was mentioned before, it is also a good size to place into human settings and you can really do some neat things with forced perspective.
I enjoy my smaller dolls too, but the SDs were what caught my attention and made me join the hobby. Yep, I'm just an SD fan. ^_^

    10. big dolls are my thing too... I have 2 @ 65 cm and one @ 42 cm (i think that's right)... she is a nightmare to handle for now until I figure out how to restring her but I adore posing my big guy... with his personality and what I can coax him into doing ^_^ lol... I have the most fun with him. Can't say it's the size though... But I do prefer to 'handle' larger dolls ... I'm not good with small stuff... to fiddly for my clumsy hands :sweat

    11. I love my larger dolls, but I think my tinies ranging from 15/16cm to 26cm are the most fun because I like dressing and photographing them the best.

    12. I like my msd size most because they are expressiv and a lot doll even they not are so heavy to pose as the sd. But I do like all size. ANd if they are small, just let them have the big head on! Lol, like connie lowes sprockets. Their are yosd, but head is nearly 8 inch. I love to cary the small ones araound, but oiutside, side to side with real trees and buildings and cars and so on, SD looks more realistic often. So, I do love my tinies and yosd inside, the yosd and msd everywhere (in or out), and msd and sd outdoors.

    13. I like the larger dolls myself - my favourites being the 60cm sizes. I think they are easier to handle than the small ones. Plus the small ones are so delicate, I feel like I could break them any second. I wouldn't dare "play" with them!

    14. I love YO-SD and smaller. I'm a person who love everything tiny and adorable. I just find them super cute and easier to manage. As of right now I could never see myself with an SD or even an MSD.

    15. I don't think I can answer this fully until I have something smaller BUT based on what I have now - I gotta say my 60cm+ boys. My 46cm boy is super fun but I think I like the big guys because their characters are "adults" and command so much presence. It's almost like "they are trying to be people" because of their size so it's funny to me. I'd love to get something in the 26cm or smaller range - I think they are adorable.

    16. I can't quite decide on how to answer this. Just looking at the positives for each one...

My minifee is fun for posing, fiddling with, and very easy to photograph. She's very easy/fun to buy clothes for.

My 68cm girl is a cuddlebug, nice to fiddle with, and has a wonderful "presence".

I think having a YoSD would be even funner for posing and photography but even LESS cuddly.

    17. At the moment I only have tinies, and would never want anything bigger than an MSD. My "big" girls are both 30cm mature tinies. I find my Banji girl the easiest to take places because she fits in a pocket or my purse. I love my extra tiny Real Puki because she fits in a dollhouse. Real Pukis tend to have HUGE personalities in spite of being only 9.5 cm tall. I'm afraid to take her anywhere because her teeny little magnetic hands come off rather easily. My biggest dolls are the most fun to sew for, but 14cm Banji is the most fun to take places.

    18. I have the most fun with my smaller dolls - Iplehouse BIDs and KIDs. I do have several larger SDs, and even though they are beautiful to look at, I rarely ever do anything with them. I find they are just too big and cumbersome to haul around or pose. My favourite dolls to dress are my MSDs. My favourite dolls to photograph are my MSDs and Tinies. The smaller kids are the most fun. It's more challenging taking their photos since I have to really pay attention to the scale of their surroundings, but that's half the fun.

    19. I have dolls from Puki to SD, and prefer the SD sized. More fun for me!

    20. First off I love SD sized dolls I love them BIG! But fun? Ehhh. I cant take thwm anywhere without a comment about how creepy they are and after carrying them around for so long my arms ache and I start getting clumsy with the dolls. They mainly stick around my room and I pose them on carpeted areas and say aww so pretty.

MSD sizes are really pretty awesome. They are small enough to not grab a ton of attention yet large enough to show off and pose nicely. I love them. Small doll yet large enough to carry around and show off.

YoSD or tiny sized is another favorite. They are small enough to shove in my purse and carry everywhere pretty discretly. If you bring out a tiny many people say oh its so cute rather then uhm thats creepy.

Edit to add... the dolls I am most smitten with are my dollshe Bernard for his rock solid standing an his limitless posing(though he is kicky and his plastics are starting to loosen. His body scares me to take apart and put back together...) he's certainly awesome to put into a position and I marvel at the fact that he's standing...

Second I love my leekeworld art body Florence. She holds a pose very well to although she's a tad more limited in her ability to pose(range a motion etc) but when she's in a pose she holds it well. Her hips are wide so I can handle her a little better than my other mini. Her head can roll or jerk back because it's large so she looks slightly down not than up but it just adds to her attitude. She's just so darn cute with her angled Bob wig.
