What doll size do you consider most "fun" ?

Sep 29, 2013

    1. I started out with SD's and then got a Puki... But now I've got a YoSD (Littlefee) and she's definitely my favourite when it comes to playing. If I want to try for picture perfect I'll get out the SD's, but for snapshots or just having around for fun my YoSD is it :) Also Littlefees pose really well. So do Pukis, but I find they're a tad too small, and I'm always afraid of losing their hands and feet when I bring them outside.

That said, my usual travelling-mate is a Puki. He's got a place in my camera bag, and often comes with me on vacations.

    2. I love tinies, and though my 26cm BJD is perfect feeling in every way (weight, sturdiness, versatility, and so on) I have a tiny 11cm off-topic (non-resin bjd) doll that gets to travel with me in my purse nearly daily. I love getting the perspective of how the world looks from something so small. Kind of makes you think, maybe she sees things the way a bird does. Tinies are such fun advocates for exploring and seeing a new side of the familiar world around you. Plus I love sewing up quick little dresses and socks and stuff :D

    3. Hands down, YoSD size. They have the cutest faces, clothes, shoes, props, parts, everything. Perfect to pose in photo stories because they're like silly little children getting into trouble..

    4. SD size (58-70cm) are my favorites. They have presence. Their heads are large enough to show real differences in sculpt and expression for me. They're big enough that they're not too fussy to sew for. And I am not really into child or baby or anthro dolls. Mature minis don't show enough detail for me to relate to.

AND you can hug them, or hold them in your lap while you watch TV. I am always surprised when I see a pic of someone holding an SD or larger size BJD. I always think, "Why does that BJD look so SMALL??" because to me they are larger than life in their personalities. BJDs smaller than MSD size are more like dolls or toys to me, and less like people.

    5. I've had fun with MSDs lately, but I like YOSDs as well. A friend of mine has one even smaller (pukipuki size?)and he's pretty neat, but I would worry about losing one that small. I enjoy the detail of SD heads, but I find they're a bit of a pain to take with me because of size.

    6. Currently my only doll is an MSD, and while I do love her to pieces (as well as the ease of finding 18" doll furniture for her) I do think I might like larger SD dolls more, because they're closer to being in-scale with a lot of their surroundings if I were to take pictures with them. I'm into bjds for the photography mainly, everything else like dressing them up, taking them to meets, the community etc comes second. One of the things that bugs me most about a lot of bjd photography, however, and this is just a personal thing, is when dolls are obviously smaller than their surroundings, most notably when there is a picture of a doll outside and either the grass is way too tall, or the leaves are too big, the bark too largely scaled--all of that is like my biggest pet peeve in photography. It's really silly, but I just can't help it XD" I'm trying to get over it, but yes I definitely thing bigger dolls are my thing. I have Monster High dolls and I can get irritated quickly with how small they are, so I know YoSDs, Tinies, Pukifees, all of those smaller dolls are absolutely not happening. Unless if they're pet dolls. Or animal dolls. Then I wouldn't mind what size they are so long as they look cute. :)

    7. I like both the 1/3 and 1/4 size dolls

    8. For me, it's a tie between SD and MSD. I feel like SD's are so easy to sew yourself for them, and a lot of props seem to be 1/3 but MSD are cute and fun too. I find that a lot of the SD props fit well with MSD's too, if not better.

    9. I love yosd. But I recently got an msd boy and will be getting a girl from the marketplace and I am really starting to love the msd size. But it is too soon to tell.

I have been tempted by some of the sd dolls. So many of the cool sets and sculpts are the giant size. I just don't really have the space plus, and this will sound crazy but when a doll is too big it stops feeling like a doll. The clothing almost looks like kids clothes. And one thing I love is the miniature feel. I like tiny stuff - hence my love also for Calico Critters. I may give in and get one SD. I may be able to fit one special SD. Probably something fantasy. The two new lines from Impdoll look cool - I want to see what else they are coming out with . . .:wiggle

    10. I have to agree with Galatia9, I like looking at lots of bjds but the SDs have presence. SDs all the way for me! I do like miniatures in that I collect dolls house stuff as well and there is an OOAK bjd doll I covet but she is a tiny version of an SD, not childlike at all.

    11. I own 3 mnfs & one off topic yo-sd sized doll...I dont have much arm stength so I can't imagine myself with anything like an SD sized doll....

    12. 1/3 as it's easier to make costums for them.

    13. I honestly have no preference for size. They're all fun for their own reasons!

    14. For me it's a middle ground for SDs and MSDs. MSDs sometimes seem too small to me, especially with the slim minis, but sometimes the SDs seem too big!! It seems I'm most fond of dolls that fall between 45~58cm I really enjoy holding minis in a single hand, but I just love how much presence SDs impose. They're so cuddly, too!

    15. My first doll was an MSD and my second was a Yo-sd. I think I have always loved the MSD size though~ I find them easy to pose and move/carry. :XD:

    16. SDs because of all the prop and clothing options but also mature minis (Soom faery legend, etc) because I can actually make in-scale dioramas without having to rent a storage warehouse or art studio. xD

    17. Was an SD type before, but discovered mature MSDs and now favor them for their size and looks.

Just wish there were more options for male clothes, though.

    18. I like 60 cm. Size where it's not too freaky having a realistic doll. Any taller or smaller and they scare me out.

    19. My favorite is sd sized. I just love the detail of the sculpts and their weight. They also seem less like toys compared to my msd and yosd dolls. They are also more fun to paint and sew for, which is why I got into the hobby in the first place.

    20. Before I got my first bjd I always preferred larger dolls but my first was a Pukifee and now I know that little people are the ones for me. I just find them easier to carry, take out, put somewhere and make things for and they are so cute!!
