1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What dolls have you named inspired by songs/song lyrics?

Jun 14, 2020

    1. I love to take inspiration for character names from songs that remind me of their character or story, for example my DT sia elf body girl is named Røyk, the Norwegian word for smoke, inspired by the song "Smokey Taboo" by Cocorosie, a song which suits her character a lot... Obviously it's implied that "smokey taboo" is a nickname in that song, and I more or less see Røyk as a nickname she uses, tho I've never come up with a "real" name. Another character from Røyk's same story that I hope to someday shell in a doll of similar 50cm size to go with her, either a zaoll or souldoll vito girl, is named Nebraska Jones, from "Settle Down" by Kimbra, because I love the line about wanting to name a child "Nebraska Jones"... it's so specific and I'm honestly kinda fascinated to hear if there's some story behind that name or if it was just written to be something random but I think it's a cool lyric either way... I also considered naming the same character "Carmen" based on the Lana Del Rey song of that name.

So as someone who clearly loves using names from song lyrics to name characters, I'm curious to hear about your doll character names or stories that have taken influence from or been inspired by songs or song lyrics! Even if you haven't taken a name directly from a song, have you ever come up with a name that is inspired by a song? Or based stories around song lyrics? Or even just found songs that you feel really suit your doll's characters to perfection!

This one is named Caledonia from the song, Caledonia. She is a character from a fan fiction story I wrote for Harry Potter universe. The song reflect Draco’s feeling for her.

    4. Oh I love Cocorosie! Elements of of my dolls’ story are definitely inspired by music for example
the local trap house is referred to as The Toolshed (although it’s actually a defunct signal box).

    5. I don't currently have any named after songs, but I do have some named after bands/artists!

      Marci - Marcy Playground
      Marley - Bob Marley
      Dresden - Dresden Dolls
      Cooper - Alice Cooper
      Amir - Amir Derakh (Orgy/Julien K)

As a side note, Amir's daughter is named Georgia Rose from One Direction's "Best Song Ever", though she isn't a shelled character.
Amir's son, Parker, is a teenage pop star, and as things happen, a fan came up pregnant. To keep things quiet, Amir and his husband adopted the baby as their own, and Parker got to name her. Being a famous pop star heavily influenced by boy bands, he chose Georgia Rose. The line goes "Said her name was Georgia Rose // And her daddy was a dentist"....Parker has always intended to go to dental school if being a famous singer forever doesn't work out.

    6. Ooooh likewise I love The Mountain Goats! I'm glad I'm not the only one who has rather serious/adult themes/heavy topics doll stories based off of stories told through music eheheh

Naming after artists/bands is good too and definitely relevant! I love Marcey Playground and the Dresden Dolls so omg I love these names :aheartbea

    8. One of my characters, who is yet to be shelled but eventually will be, is named Nyx. She is named after Stevie Nicks. I don't have any characters named specifically from lyrics, but songs and lyrics definitely shape my characters when I am creating them.

    17. When I get all my small sized Villitunes dolls together (two are stuck in Russia because of the shipping ban), they are formally getting Rocky Horror names. Magenta, Columbia, and Rocky are obvious ones, but I've been mulling over how I want to approach long names like Frank-n-Furter's, because I want a Villitunes army eventually! The show is just how I see my dolls - fun, gender-bending, sometimes maniacal and fantastical but also secretly plotting.

    18. My Soom tinies, Imaginos, Mystere, Samedi, and Del Rio, all have names pulled from Blue Oyster Cult's Imaginos album.

    19. One of my Fairyland Alicia mermaids is named Eva after the song Eva by Nightwish. The lines from the song "mocked by man to depths of shame//little girl with life ahead//for a memory of one kind word//she would stay among the beasts" and "in this cruel children's game there's no friend to call her name," helped me shape her backstory.

I didn't name Adelaide and Jericho after songs but I did find songs by those names that were promptly added to their playlists (yes, I make them playlists. It helps me when I'm writing).
