1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What Dolly Rules Do You Set For Yourself?

Jan 23, 2011

    1. 1. No multiple sculpts
(See: Unoa Lusis army, Soom Ai/Afi army, and all the other doubles. There's just so much potential for so many different features!)
      2. No Volks
(See: Alice, Lieselotte, pending fawning over Volks. Why this rule was every implemented, I do not know.)
      3. You're going to finish all your current dolls before buying another (rule as of mid 2011)
(ha. HAHA. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA NICE ONE. No really I should be upholding this one more than I do. It's working to some degree though, I'm more of a doll-before-character person)

      4. SDs cannot have characters
(Actually, I'm holding this one up pretty well! Wait a minute I just broke this one 2 weeks ago.)
      5. Each doll (with a plan) will have a specific color/scheme, and you are not to repeat that color/scheme again for another doll
(See: Army of 4 with similar aqua features. This one is fairly loose, I'm working to achieve a diverse set of colors/schemes, but I'm so utterly fond of blues and reds! Black hair is a huge culprit too.)

      6. No more Soom tinies (rule as of late 2011)
(What do you mean 13 is enough? Exceptions can be made when one is sold.)
      7. No SDs unless taken under VERY serious consideration
(I find myself selling them more often than not, but I really do think they're stunning! Exception to a few floating heads who will stay floating heads.)

      8. Unless a hybrid, buy dolls as whole
(I find it much more satisfying to have a full blank doll thank a painted floating head waiting for a body. ^^;; )

      9. Either you have a wig and eyes, or you don't have any at all
(One without the other sits strangely with me D: )
      10. Custom faceups for everyone!
(Attatched to rule #5, I like having a variety of different aesthetics. It brings difference between characters/story lines)

    2. 1. Finish a dolls entire look before buying another.
      • I am currently doing very well on this!

      2. MSDs only; and they must MATCH PROPORTIONS.
      • Definitely something I do; I don't want a girl to feel left out or too different. It makes me feel in a way sad.

      3. I must have an outline/character sheet of the character I am looking to find a sculpt for before I buy. Only get dolls that match my character.
      • I had a slip up on this one, and I ended up not bonding with my doll and selling her. It's a very important thing for me.

      4. Do not make characters just so I can buy another doll.

      • Currently struggling with and probably will break. I have my eyes set out on a specific sculpt and I just want to make a character for her so bad. e u e"

    3. I have 4 major rules. I followed two of those rules to a "T" until two days ago. Now I follow only 1 rule faithfully. I'll come back to this in a year and laugh and laugh and laugh...

      #1: Only ONE doll!

My partner broke that one for me. She was going to surprise me with my second doll but I found out. I am sure I am now doomed.

#2: Do not buy tons of props for your photographs.

Psssht! Whatever self. I do what I want!

#3: Sarah does not need new shoes.

      But she's a woman...

#4: If you break rule #1 you can only get mature female dolls.

No problems there! I really do not like male dolls.

    4. I had three big rules for myself:
      1. No white skin dolls because of my fear of horrible yellowing.
      2. No SDs or larger because I'm small and petite, so that would be too big.
      3. Any doll, impulse buy or not, must get a character and become a part of my on-going story

I broke number 1 last year when I purchased a second-hand Bobobie Bao. Since I bought him from his previous owner, I was stuck with his super white resin. Thankfully, I think it mellowed a bit and I'm not worried about further yellowing. I'm actually looking forward to it, since that will make him easier to photograph with my other BJDs. I'm contemplating breaking number 2 for a specific character, but I need to play around with the larger BJDs of my friend. I really don't want to spend the money and then find out I was right all along to think 60cm was too big for me.

    5. 1. No dolls in the 70cm range or smaller than a pukifee - been there, done that, didn't like it >.<
      2. No dolls in unnatural resin colors - I've owned two green dolls (soom sov, pipos baby cheshire) and regretted buying both.
      3. No Japanese names - I feel japanese names for dolls are really over done, so even if a name pops into my head that I like, I can't let myself use it >.<
      4. No buying second hand dolls from people in other countries - Every once and a while I'll get tempted, but I just think it's too much hassle.

A new rule I've made for myself is to send eyes/wigs/etc with dolls when they go off for face up. Too many times now I've kept eyes, saying that they'll be safer at home, and I ALWAYS lose track of them before the doll ever makes it back *face palm*

    6. 1- 3 dolls only for the story
      I have 8 + 1 floating head + 1 in process to be shipped in 48 days!

2- Clothes MUST be sewn by me ONLY no buying stuff I can make!
I bought LOADS and LOADS of clothes.

      3- No blond wigs
      I have 4 blond wigs

      4- NO TINIES!!
      I have 3 realpukis

      5- Stick to the SDs
I had the realpukis and now am waiting my first Minifee (MSD)

I can go on and on... but eh I guess it's addictive

    7. #1 Every doll I buy from now on must compliment my Luts Delf Miyu. I am very OCD about my dolls looking good together in a group!
(I at least want Freya to have a companion that goes well with her, but after that I may drop this rule and start collecting who ever catches my eye! ;))

      #2 Stick to 1/3 and 1/6 girls
(This goes with the first rule. At the moment I have a Delf and a Volks YoSD. I want each of them to have a companion their own size!
I adore a lot of 1/4 dolls but they don't fit with my current dolls so they will have to wait a while.) (Lati yellows are an exception to this rule...because they are just too adorable - haha)

#3 Everyone has to wear underwear!!
Nothing is more awkward than picking up a doll in a dress and feeling their cold bum on your hand! :XD:

#4 Wig caps cannot be showing!!
This drives me crazy and I would not allow my doll to wear a wig that didn't look realistic.

And last but not least, a rule that everyone should adopt when handling others dolls:
#5 DO NOT touch the face-up!!

This really bothers me because my Miyu has a face-up I really love by my favorite artist, and people will touch her head to see her or touch her faceup.
When I handle someone's doll, I never ever touch the face. I will touch under the chin and top of the head when putting on a wig, but that is about it.
I also use a Q-tip to move hair our of the eyes for a better view. (never blow on it, saliva is corrosive too - Look up what happened to old game cartridges from blowing on them)
Face-ups can get dirty or damaged by our hands so please have some respect because it really is the face-up that makes the doll!!

And that is about it! I dont have too many rules! :)

    8. I only get female dolls. Don't know why but I will NEVER own a male doll.

    9. All dolls must have at least one outfit, a wig, eyes, a name and personality and it must have been at least a year since my last doll purchase before I can buy a new doll.

All dolls must have time spent with them - nobody can be neglected!

Every doll that enters the house must have some kind of character/story connection to a doll that's already in the house.

Every doll must have an allocated safe place where they can live.

Dolls cannot be too similair to one another.

No touching painted areas of the faces.

Dolls must be stored under a white sheet, out of sunlight and away from dust.

Hands must be clean before touching dolls.

Names must be in some way unique or unusual.

      No doll gets sold.

If I don't want a doll the second I see it then I don't buy it.

Girl dolls cannot have short hair (the sexism only applies to my dolls - honest).

I don't make my doll wear anything that goes against their character.

    10. Kiss the husband before you kiss the doll. I don't want my hubby to think I love Sonia more than him. I love her, but I didn't marry her!

    11. All of my dolls were given to me. I know a lot of money have went into these tiny works of art so my only hard, fast rule is, do NOT treat my girls as toys. The only time they get laid flat on a table or whatever is if I am actually in the process of making something for them that I need their dimensions for. As soon as I am done, they get sat back up in their "Perch of the Day"

    12. I will not let myself seriously look at things that are for sale until my DZ Rosemary gets here.
I also just got an Elfkin and try to spend as much time with her as I do my MSD.

    13. 1. No one shall be over 30cm in height. Exceptions may be made for fantasy dolls and possibly a few mature MSDs in the more distant future.
No SDs. I mean it, Soom!
      2. Everyone will be in scale to each other
      3. No WS. I just don't like the way it looks, and I'd be paranoid about yellowing. Fantasy colors are fine.
Exception for two vampire characters who's supposed to be allergic to sunlight anyway.
      4. No doll shall cost more than $400.
      5. No sad expressions. Neutral, happy, or even cross is fine, but the sad ones depress me.
      6. No buying accessories I can make myself.
      7. No spending more on doll clothes than I spend on my own clothes.
      8. Everyone must be unique in head sculpt, body, or skin color.
      9. Avoid impulse buys. I haven't regretted any yet .

I guess I'm a bit particular, but I want my dolls to make me happy without getting out of control in price or number. Or size.

    14. I think my only rule is that I gave all my dolls a last name-Hyuga. I just feel like it.;)

    15. I have a few..... but they're not really strict. Though the ones I do have I have kept to, for the most part... >.>

      1. Only buy dolls I have the actual cash for. Layaway is okay, but I have to be in a consistently financially stable state to do that.
      2. If I don't have the same 'SQUEEE!!!!' reaction every time I see a sculpt it's time to take it off the wish list.
      3. I absolutely will not buy a doll with weird squiggly eyes, all lower lids must be rounded (or at least mostly rounded, any extreme dips are a big fat no!). Souldoll Double Gisele is my only current exception.
      4. Stealing this one from Leo Phoenix, if I can make it I won't buy it!
      5. No company face ups..... for now....
      6. I like breasts on my ladies! All my ladies must have moderate to large bust size, as long as they remain in proportion with the body. All my girls are MATURE, even though they are 'cute' they are not children. My only exception is tinies.
      7. NO BOYS ALLOWED!!! XD

      I think that's it.... XD

    16. I don;t have many "rules" but I do have a few..
dolls MUST have shoes before they arrive.
like my dolls can share clothes and I make wigs...but I can not stand to have a doll barefoot!
it just upsets me....like I have a floating head with a full wardrobe of her own with 2 pairs of shoes...
other than that I can;t think of anything...

    17. I'm not sure it counts as a WEIRD rule, but for me, I only assign certain age groups for my dolls to certain sizes.
SD's are ages 16 and up, MSD's are ages 13 to 15, and anything smaller than 40cm(since I have a 12" boy with child-like proportions) is 12 and under. The only exception I make for this is mature bodied MSD's, since they basically look more like really short adults.
I will go nuts if I don't follow this rule.

I do the same thing with height(mainly with the different sized SD bodies), but we won't go into that. :sweat

    18. My husbands' rules, which I honor, because I like to keep him happy: no closed eye sculpts ("luckily" the only sleeper I really wanted was far too rare for me to get my paws on anyway!), no visible teeth, all detached body parts (headless bodies primarily) are kept out of the main living areas...

When I began, I didn't think I'd ever have a "baby" doll, but I fell for a toddleresque Ai, broke that "rule". Thought I wanted one of each gender in each general size set, but decided my first MSD needed a twin sister, then the mature minis arrived on the market, and now there are soooo many variants in size and shape, that one went out the window in two directions :). Didn't think I'd have heads without bodies or vice versa, but I have one head that's been bodiless for several years now.

To quote Dr. Peter Venkman: "Actually, it's more of a guideline than a rule... "

    19. 1. SD and MSD cannot share a "romance" or anything.
      - SDs are just too tall for MSDs, plus MSDs look so young compared to them. It just feel so wrong to me. :(

      2. No sunlight. They shall all be vampires (not yellow vampires ;))
      - After having one of my doll yellow fast due to not being always in a dark area, I freaked out and keep them in the closet.... In their boxes... //fears

      3. All must wear underwear (Unless the pants really cannot handle it).
      - I don't want to see yo' junk hanging out!! Put yo' kickers on son! Ya' nasty.:ablah:

    20. Ah, I'm the same as a few people already mentioned. ^^

      1. No two dolls should have reason to be the same with so many companies and sculpts out there!
I try to keep everyone with different hair and eye colors (but I have a weakness for blue eyes it seems) and everyone has different bodies. I've tried to find dolls I like from different companies but I have a weakness for Elfdoll, Spiritdoll, and Soom sculpts.

      2. I'd like to stay 63cm and under, but I do have two big boys planned which will reach 65cm. @A@

      3. No creamy green white skins. It just makes them feel so different than what I already have.

      4. SD heads should be in the 8.5-9inch circumference range. I used to be super anal about this, down to the cm, but I've come to loosen up a bit and realized face size has a lot to do with the perceived size of the head.

      5. Stick to dolls which suit my characters. I have too many wants to allow myself an excuse for more. Haha~ But I keep wanting to make more characters! XD;

      6. Keep a harmonious aesthetic among my collection. Most my dolls are within a certain "bulkiness" and build. Not too petite, not too chunky. :)
