1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What Dolly Rules Do You Set For Yourself?

Jan 23, 2011

    1. My only rule is that I get only clothes and props that will fit for the character (since I only have character dolls). That should mean I have less clothes to buy. USUALLY it means I have very specific stuff that I have to make or commission or import for the character costing me more money in the end. :doh

    2. 1. No more dolls no matter what.. lol =D well I often broke this one so.. ermm..!
I think i revise the doll rule to..
      2. Should only get what I reeally really want, not only because they're pretty and such.
      3. If i have 3 times the money needed to buy one doll. So I don't run out too fast.

    3. 1)no layaway or buying dolls on credit card, overdraft etc.

2)And now my money has well and truly run out forever, the doll hobby has to be self-funding - so I can't buy a new doll now, or even doll clothes, unless I sell an existing one to raise the funds! That is harsh LOL - but unfortunately necessary :sigh

    4. At the moment I only got one rule;
Only one more doll to have a little family... which makes me very picky for my last doll

I might get extra rules because of my bf though... ;)

    5. My main rule is with layaways, and that's that I can't start a layaway unless I have no others currently going and I have to have at least one month's payment saved in my account (on top of whatever downpayment is required).

My other rule is that I can't buy a doll less than three months after deciding I want it. Preferably stretched out to six months (my first doll was an exception but I love him more and more so it's worked out). If I still want them after six months, then they're fair game and get added to a separate list.

    6. Honestly, I've given up on most rules. They usually end up being broken anyway. :sweat

The only rule I've got now is to TRY and keep the collection down to whatever can fit on my two large bookcases. Aside from the two (soon to be three) extra-big girls I have who won't fit on the cases. Once the shelves are full, that's it for dolls for awhile, unless I sell a few off first.

    7. No dolls unless they have a specific character and fit into a specific character group.

No accessories (clothes, wigs, etc) unless they actually fit one of the characters' styles.

No expanding certain character groups, keep them at their current/planned size.

It helps a bit that most of my dolls represent characters that already "exist" to me in some way, making it easier to restrict what I buy. I've only done four that don't have a specific character, who are working out to different degrees... the ones that have the character in place, however, always tend to work out well for me, so that stops me from grabbing every "ooh pretty!" that comes along.

    8. 1. No impulse buying. If I'm still in love with it xy months later it goes on the wishlist to be purchased whenever I have enough money saved/find a good deal.

      2. No layaway, credit card buying etc. I can either pay it all at once or don't buy at all.

      3. Not more than one dolly order at the time.

      4. All dolls at home have to have at least a face-up, wig, eyes, manicure and one complete outfit + shoes before purchasing the next doll.

      5. No Volks doll. I do have one on the wishlist but I want to put it off as long as possible, I want it to be my grail doll and only get it when I feel I actually deserve it after getting all dolls on my wishlist.

    9. For me it has to be a doll that I not only find really pretty, but would fit an OC and theme of my other OCs. It has to be unique as well. And I like semi-realistic dolls so that's important to me too. If it's an SD doll the body has to be double jointed and have locking joints. I had a floppy doll once without locking joints, didn't like it despite how beautiful the doll was.

    10. ^ Hehe, I'm in this boat. ^_~

When I first started the hobby I was going to sew all of my own clothing…then I purchased a male doll and tailoring suits just was not happening. Also, Freedom Teller exists so…eheh. ^.^"
Of course, once I had experienced such lovely fashions…some of the other dolls wanted things as well, so now I'm more open to purchasing clothing items that I really fall in love with, though I do tend to make the majority of my own doll clothes.

Of course there was a doll collection limit…which I have blown past...

I now own dolls from companies I never would have guessed starting out, size ranges I didn't think I was interested in…etc, etc. I've just learned to let the hobby grow organically as the years pass. :chocoheart

    11. These are my rules, though I think all have been broken at least once or twice:

      1. No more than two major things on layaway at a time (meaning items over $150)
      2. No blank dolls. It has to get a faceup before anything else can be done!
      3. No more than two dolls in pieces at a time. One must be completed before another comes home (this applies to floating heads, bald dolls, eyeless dolls, blank dolls, mod jobs, etc)
      4. Every doll must have at least 3 bottoms, 5 tops, underwear, 2 pairs of shoes, eyes and wig, and the first outfit has to be ready when they arrive.
      5. No dolls without a pre-existing character, preferably in active role play for at least 6 months first. Unless the doll is offered as a trade, then it may be accepted to get rid of old junk with no purpose.
      6. Only humans.

    12. 1. Limit number of my collection at 9 dolls and max. 12 (3 dolls - only for super wish dolls case) - No more other new dolls, except as gift for smo else (small dolls actually)
      2. Buying few clothes per each doll. Sewing can save much money! Some accessories can also be done my myself (what 1 doll must have at least; 1 wig, 1 pair of eyes, 1x face up (as long as it isn't damaged), 1 set of clothing, 1 pairs of shoes)
      3. Doing some part-time job and saving

    13. Love it! I have no willpower late at night. :XD:

Most of my rules have been broken too, except for:
      1. No buying dolls with credit cards.
      2. Dolls must fit into the existing group.

    14. I have a five day rule.
If I want to buy something, I wait five days and see if I haven't change my mind. This helps to prevent impulsive purchases... sometimes.

    15. Rules? We don't need no stinkin' rules!

Okay, seriously. I tend to get maniacal about new interests and want to buy in immmediately.
However, this interest probably came at a good time where finance is tight while I reorganize and consolidate. I find myself looking at dolls and thinking I could buy them because they are inexpensive. I also ask myself am I wanting to buy a doll just to be buying or is it one I really want? I would rather hold out for the right one than spend on second or third tier choices.
It's a little harder with those cat anthros. So cute! So reasonable!

    16. I only have one rule -no new dolls until I have a better income source.

    17. I'm only letting my first doll be paid by my parents. The rest (including clothes) I will save up myself. Also, no more than 3 dolls, all under 300, till I'm out of collage and have a steady job.

    18. Rules for myself:

      1. No more than 4 dolls.

      2. Can't afford -insert doll/item here- right now? Don't buy it.

      3. Don't buy dolls you don't have characters for.

      4. Research, research, research!

    19. I used to have a ton of rules, but after 10 years of bjds, I've broken all of them... :(

    20. 1) No money? No buying. I only pay in full. If it's not in my checking account, I'm not purchasing it.

      2) Wait to order during events (limiteds and discontinuances exempt). That way, I get useful free stuff that has resale value if I end up not liking it.

      3) No SD sized dolls until after college and I have my own place.

      That's it!
