1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What Dolly Rules Do You Set For Yourself?

Jan 23, 2011

    1. - No Dolls over 65cm / 2000g
      - No EIDs
      - No Womans (I really want a Woman Doll but to be honest, I do not know what to do with her in the End.)
      - No new Doll after the Doll I paid, arrived. (this is the hardest part ever..)
      - No Dolls of different Companies (at least not a lot maybe 2-3 different Companies and their should maybe share a few things like clothes, Doll parts etc.)
      - A certain time of waiting Time (the Time between Release of a Doll or seeing of a Doll I would like to have and press the final buy button)
      - Only use the Money for Dolls I really saved up for the Doll and nothing else.
      - No Layaway. (If I would like to make Layaway then I start to save up money in Layaway of my bank account to pay the Doll complete off.)

I think this was all rules I could think of. :XD:

    2. 1. no layaway, no credit card buying. I have the money or I have not.
      2. I Only buy what I love, I do not buy face ups I don't like
      3. Research obsessively
      4. Buy full dolls only (forget that one, I've started buying heads) :doh
      5. buy directly from the maker/manufacturer (or reputable dealers when cheaper)
And 6. I 'Earn' the doll, I set an aim (study, fitness, work-related etc. ) and I reach it through hell and high water. It works.

    3. I only buy a dolls what I fall in true love first, I have one rule and I don't think it's a rule.
I only have 2dolls with the same capital of alphabet , a tiny and big: one of each.
I buy with layway if I know I pay everything at once.

    4. I have (so far) restricted my dolls to only if they would work for one of my characters. That's the only way I can prevent whim buying and not bonding (A huge problem I have had in previous doll hobbies :/ )

      • x 1
    5. I only have one I think, its "don't buy doll clothes that you can make yourself" :)

      • x 1
    6. my restriction rule: I will only own 2-3 bjds. (beyond 3 is unmanageable)
      SUNDAYS are quality/bonding time
i like naming my dolls using consecutive letters in the alphabet... my current dolls have J K L and N O first-lastnames

    7. I have a few rules for myself.

1~ Never spend more then $700 on one doll (not including clothes, eyes, etc)

2~ Work hard for what I want. Don't ask parents for money or use credit.

3~ Only buy dolls I have a connection with.

4~ Do as much DIY as I can.

5~ Don't buy just heads and don't hybrid. (I don't have anything aginst either just don't feel like having floating heads and potentially mis-matched bodies)

6~ Never sell a doll unless I couldn't get money anyother way.

7~ Don't let others sway my opinion of my dolls.

8~ Do not let children play with my dolls.

    8. My main rule for dolls is that I don't buy more than one a year. I've broken that rule due to flukes, but if I go over, I'm supposed to add extra years before buying again. I'm also trying to make sure I don't buy a new doll before I finish my existing doll's characters. Also trying to resist impulse buys and start focusing on smaller dolls instead of bigger ones! ^^

    9. Put them in the box if I dont play with.
I dont want my dolls to be yellowing.... of course it will get yellowing on time... but well lol
Dont buy small size head in SD (8 inch)
I have 9~10 inch dolls in SD... I bought these some, but these doesnt match with mine.
      buying only one USD
cuz I dont paly with small size (under msd) much time, but I wanna have it, so I just have only one USD lol

it looks kinda stupid lol but I try to do it!

    10. I didn't have any rules when I started out so I've ended up with an enormous amount of dolls. I get a bit manic/OCD about my hobbies and I tend to go a bit Pokemon (gotta get em all).

Now after trying for 8 years I'm finally pregnant so my priorities have changed slightly so I've decided to implement some rules.

      - the dolls must fit into one of my families (before I just bought them because I liked them)
      - at the moment I can't buy any more dolls unless they are funded by the sale of another doll (I need an EID female to finish a couple that I have been wanting for 3 years and a body for a floating head so I am selling dolls to fund these purchases)
      - no floating heads (I have received 4 from Luts - 1 is being kept, 3 are being sold to help fund the body purchase)
      - the dolls must have a place to live (no box babies or living in storage)
      - everyone needs a Faceup, clothing, eyes and wig (this is making it a bit easier to rehome some dolls as they are not finished and I won't have time to finish them all off before the baby comes)
      - only keep dolls that you love (some dolls I have purchased have parts that just irritate me after their arrival so it stops me from bonding with them)
      - must make $2000 from doll sales for purchasing baby stuff (my youngest is 16 so I am starting from scratch)
      - must make $2000 from doll sales for a safety net for our mortgage as hubby is separating from the Army on disability and there may be a gap with no payments/income

    11. dont buy Guy dolls (cant bond with them)
dont buy MSD dolls (same problem, and yet I still have 2)
dont buy clothes I can make myself.
dont buy expensive dolls (wich is weird in this hobby but I know when and what is expensive in my head)
dont buy doll stuff when I need the money for myself

      • limit myself to 30 dolls (broken a long time ago :...( )
      • collect only SDs between 60-75cm
      • equal number of male and female dolls
      • equal number of dolls that have blue/green/purple/brown/grey eyes
      • bodies of hybrids from different companies
      • no duplicate sculpts (rule broken: 2 Angelheim Ryan heads), even if they're a variant such as sleeping/dreaming/vampire versions (also broken: Migidoll original Yujin, Cynical Yujin, and now Second Yujin)

    12. My rule has always been. there are no rules.. but I finally had to set some.
      No teeny tinies..under 27cm.
No dolls that cost more than $600
No more dolls until I do the needed repairs to my house.
No more dolls until I have sold some of the vintage doll collection.
Dang it, I'm sticking to it this time!

    13. My BJD rules are:
      nothing bigger than MSD
if not ordering a fullset, have an outfit and wig waiting for the doll when it returns home

      ...that's it, so far!

    14. Always store them covered in some kind of fabric.
But then I keep the clothes on one of them, as well as her socks and shoes xD Probably not the best idea, but she's my first doll and was $150. Not a big deal if she gets stained, even if I don't want her anymore for whatever reason, I wouldn't get much money out of her anyway haha.

    15. My rules are:
-Never buy dolls with a credit card, ever.
-Search thoroughly for secondhand alternatives before purchasing anything new
-Before buying new dolls, work on perfecting the dolls I currently have.

I did buy my first doll brand new though.

    16. I had a lot of rules when I started out, but in the meantime I have broken most of them :sweat - like, "no two of the same", "no dolls for which I haven't got a character" (I have started to add characters as needed :p), and "no more 16 cm dolls".

      The rules that still stand:
      - no buying with layaway;
      - no taking money out of my savings account;
      - no dolls over $600 (nude doll without shipping);
      - not ordering new (especially outside of Europe) what can be found on the MP in Europe.

The $600-rule may or may not be broken when LLT eventually releases their Ludwig. I'm not sure.

    17. Weird thing? Hmm I think I always keep my dolls to have their own pair. So the total number always 2,4,6,8,...
the only thing I didn't want is using my credit cards to pay. I always use cash. If I didn't have cash with me at the moment, I won't buy any.

    18. Nothing over 50cm - 55cm.
I played with gijoe and star wars toys as a child and action figures as a teen so I'm used to smaller dolls. But msd is pushing it but they're so darn awesome.

    19. I dunno. I set myself budgets, but that's probably pretty normal xD; I guess the weirdest "rule" I have is that whenever I get a new doll, I open it but then I'll leave it in its box for about a month to let it "sink in" before I start the customizing. Not so much a rule as a habit, I guess. I think that's my buyer's guilt period that I have to get over before I can enjoy my dolly xD

I do have a rule not to get into SDs, but I have a floating SD head so. Oops.

I'm also making a New Year's resolution not to buy any more BJDs in 2015 and to work on my current projects instead (and maybe cheat with getting an Azone). We'll see how that goes.
