What Dolly Rules Do You Set For Yourself?

No buying a new doll before the last one ordered arrives. Blew that out of the water... twice...

I'm now waiting on not one, or two, but three dolls.

Dammit.

 

Um, I think I got a little.

I don't really form a pre-existing character I made when I chose dolls I like. They come with their own personality for me to get to know!

No tiny tinies. O__O;; They are just way to tiny for me. I thought sd, msd, and only guy bjds would be my interest but I finally find some yo-sds of both genders that are so adorable on Dream of Doll and Fairyland! They are just so gosh darn cute!!!! >w<

Sha has made it his rule to stay close by me when I am on the computer. Also, he will let me know with a look when clothes are not to his satisfactory and/or taste. Bjds are truly something amazing! I just love him! X3

 

I must do all my own face-ups. It never feels like "my doll" if I didn't paint it.

 

Oh, I've had so many stupid rules, I don't follow anymore.

- No girls. Hello half of my doll collection.
- No dolls smaller than SDs. I own anything buy a SD.
- Only buying one doll at the time. I'm waiting on four dolls and a body.
- Do my own face-ups. I'm never gonna learn it. Never.
- No tanned dolls. I do actually not own a tanned doll, yet. But I do own a grey skinned doll, which almost counts.

 

1. Only MSDs and lower.
2. Must all look good together, no 'odd one out'.
3. No hooves, mermaids, non-humanoid parts.
4. No odd sizes where I can't buy clothes for them.
5. Generally, keep number of boys equal to number of girls.
6. No more than four dolls at once.

hmmm

 

1. Maximum 1 girl MSD and 1 girl SD, the rest should be male
2. Get dolls for pre-existing characters only (this explains #1)
3. Have one nice outfit , sew the rest (pretty hard to break this one since I'm so picky - only reason I still have money XD)
4. Do every faceup (only way to get better)
5. No floating heads unless body has been ordered at the same time
6. Complete a doll before buying another
7. Avoid limiteds like the PLAGUE DX they're bad for my impulsive nature
8. Only humans
9. Maximum 4 dolls

I think that's everything O.o, this is somehow shorter than expected. It'll be fun to revisit this later on.

2.More tans then any other skintone (lol fail)

That's all i've got really. I literally get any doll that I think suits a character. I've got no compunction about more realistic or animu sculpts, it all about whether they fit what they represent or not.

 

1. no boy dolls in the girls bathroom.

 

Pretty much my only rule is to stick with dolls that are MSD-sized or under. The bigger ones are just intimidating to me. ;_;

 

"No MSD because I hate that size" - so going to buy one because I need a doll-to-go
"I shouldn't own more than one doll with a certain body type. All humans have différent bodies and I want that for my dolls!" - waiting on 3 soom SG guy. Can't really hybrid any
"I will do the faceups of ALL of my dolls. I want to be proud of my dolls. When people Will say they are pretty, I Will feel like I have something to do with their prettiness" - I am about to give up and send them All to faceup artists >.>
"buy ALL the tan dolls!!" I still don't have any tanned ones in my new collection (used to have a bunch though)

 

Each of my dolls has to have a proper theme song (one that fits their character), and an 'anticipation theme' which is usually a song that I hear on the day I go to pick them up or shortly before that sticks with me. So Noire's proper theme is "Straight to Video" by Mindless Self Indulgence and her anticipation theme is "California Girls" by Katy Perry. Amser's proper theme is "Ghost" by VNV Nation, and his anticipation theme is "More Human Than Human" by White Zombie.

I don't know if I have any other weird dolly rules...? XD That's my big one.

I don't really make restrictions for myself on what size my dolls should be, or what wigs they wear - because "never say never" seems to be workin great for me. I do have some rules I worked out in the process of buying, and they should not be broken just because it's for my own good.

No impulse buys.
Never. Ever.I don't buy a doll, unless a) it's an existing original character of mine b) I saw enough owner photos from different angles and decide it's perfect. I'm so damn picky, so I need to love doll's every feature before I buy. A doll must be PERFECT in my eyes.

No layaway.
I'm just too paranoid. Always thinking that a situation might pop out, and I won't be able to pay the rest of the money. This doesn't count for a credit card, however... *fail*

No fullset dolls.
Because it's always like that - you wear the oh-so-cool clothes, take pictures, and store it in a box for eternity. Big waste of money.

No tinies.
No matter how cute, they just don't fit in my doll-community.

An upcoming doll must have eyes and wig before arriving.
It's okay if there's no shoes, clothes or make up - but eyes and wig is a MUST.

 

I need to develop some more or better rules.

1.Have only one floating head of a certain sex.
I've already broke it. I have at least two floatings heads. xD

2. Must complete all existing dolls before purchasing a new one (like all dolls at home need to have one set of eyes,a wig,and clothing before a new one is bought - originally stated to include shoes too,but ehh lol)
I tried to obey it,but I failed miserably.

3. No credit cards
Still going on this one. =3

4.Sell all unused accesories,parts,etc.

5.Make the doll carriers myself instead of buying.

6.TRY to do most of your doll modifications

7. Have at least 3 male dolls in collection
So far I have one. xD

8. Try to stay away from the pukis. xD

9. No anthro dolls
I don't think I've broken this one yet...well,kinda. Erika has deer antlers,Bijou has doe ears.I don't consider it broken till I buy a Doll Chateau Alberta. xD

10. Dolls do not under any circumstances go naked.

11. Attempt to buy most dolls outright instead of on layway
I've only done one layway

12. Do not talk myself into keeping a doll if I am not bonding with it properly
This is a very hard rule for me to folllow but I am for my own sanity.

13. Don't be afraid to mod a doll or change it anyway

14. Kids don't touch the dollies

15. Under any circumstances,don't treat the dolls like they are human. -_-

16. No yellow skin

17. No identical or duplicate sculpts.
I love twins and have many twins plained,but I REFUSE to have fifteen millions copies of a doll in my house so sets have to have a different head mold,etc,but can look similar.

18. Each doll has at least one outfit and accesorry that is their's alone.

19. Not every doll has to be "related",but most follow a certain theme.
For example,I have a group in my bunch that is "deer" or woodland creature themed. Then I have a set of lolita twins. Etc.

20. Each doll will be photographed on a regular basis

 

This! I am improving though... But still I almost think I don't notice any flaws if someone else does them for me.. haha.

 

All my characters must be part of the same story! And they all have to work with each other and have intertwined stories and friendships.
I pick my dolls to fit characters I already have in my head, rather than finding a doll to work into the story~


Also a rule I do with my dolls, they never come out when the sun is out. I have this giant antique chest thing that I lined with silk fabric, and at night before I go to bed I place them all in there safely, then I'll take them out the next day when the sun goes away~

 

The only rule for myself that I haven't broken is: no male doll...

all other rules have gone down the drain... like:

No dolls with teeth or open mouths (I own Notdolls Aletheia and Belladonna, a Lusis and an Lusis akubi hybrid...)
No vampire (Notdoll Aletheia, remember!)
Never those ugly Notdolls (I have three of them...)
Just the one (haha! big joke, more than ten haunt my place)
All must have knickers... (well, one is a water-creature... water-creatures don't wear knickers...)

so so... there's the male doll rule that still stands... XD

 

My only real rule at the moment:

I will not consider buying a doll unless I can fit them into a character concept. If I look at a doll and can't see them as a character of mine, or cannot get a spark of an idea for a new character from that doll, they honestly have no place with me, and I will just admire them from afar.

As of now, I have not broken this rule. While I have no complete dolls right now, every doll on my wishlist is either shelling out a long established character, or after seeing them I have been able to build a character around them.

 

I never let my dolls stand up for a longer time, and not without my sight! I'm so afraid that they would fall for no reason and brake a finger or something >.<

 

One of my "weird" dolly rules is that I try not to own more then 1 doll in each size (exceptions are made for dolls that have really unusual measurements) so far I've only broken this one once.

The other one is avoiding paying for clothing at all costs (I had to learn how to sew pretty quick to keep this one!)

Never order more then 1 doll at once (failed at this one since I've currently have 3 dolls coming from Fairyland )

Boy dolls must be identifiably male, usually I ask my Little Sister is this a boy or a girl doll? so far they've all been "girls"

 

I used to not even want to touch my dolls in fear that I'd ruin them
it was like that for months before i stopped just looking at them and started playing with them O_O
