1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. When I got into this 10+ years ago, I preferred males. Now, the female dolls are looking much prettier and I seem to prefer them.

    2. For me, it's male dolls. I grew up with a mother that would only allow me to have female dolls and the male dolls I did have were my older sister's old New Kids on the Block dolls. So I think that's reflected in my BJD choices as the one doll I do currently have is male and the two I'm waiting to arrive are male. Then all of my floating heads are male sculpts.

    3. Definitely female dolls for me! I'm really picky about male dolls, so it's very hard to find one that I genuinely like. With females, though, I have waaaaay too many that I'd be over the moon to own. Also, Fairyland keeps coming out with GORGEOUS girls (that medusa full set? Oh my god, if she was 1/4 scale...)

    4. Mostly female with some males sprinkled in.

    5. Definitely like androgynous / femme dolls the most! I'm a transmasculine person but have always been very drawn to pretty, femme aesthetics. I'd like to have a cute masculine doll someday, but would probably just want him to wear dresses and cute things.

This thread was a lovely read, and the results of the poll were so interesting!

    6. definitely love feminine dolls most ^^
i only have girls (so far!) but even with boys and nonhuman dolls i can’t get enough of soft, ethereal features. anything pretty, really :whee:

    7. Not having any intention in sexism but I tend to have eyes on boys than girls.
However, I loved to collect anything related to princesses then after Rapunzel and Cinderella, I'm really waiting for the release of Volks' Elsa & Anna (may be the next winter, who know?!)

    8. It sounds horrible but I just have very little aesthetic interest in the male human form, so I would probably only ever get a female doll, at least as far as human-like dolls go :sweat

    9. My favorite BJDs are cat-girls! Surprisingly, I easily fall in love with male dolls. I just haven't met a BJD male doll that wasn't total model material *drools*. I also enjoy collecting female dolls but I am a bit pickier on who gets added to my collection; something about them really has to captivate me :)

    10. My very first male doll is on order, but he's a little kid, which almost doesn't count in my mind. I've owned a lot of pretty girls dolls. I find that it's hard enough to find clothes to match the personality of a female character even with the huge amount of variety in doll clothes... for the boys it seems you're either an industrial goth or an American Apparel junky. That's it. Clothes are huge to me, so it's a big factor.

    11. I'm wanting to get my grubby mitts on a Crobidoll Lance in the near-ish future, which will be my first boy doll in several years. I try them periodically, but they never seem to stick around for very long due to limited clothing options, boxy bodies (seriously, they all have washboard abs with undefined tube legs to me!), and lack of inspiration. I typically dress them once and never touch them again. I guess I just like girls the most.

    12. I prefer fantasy dolls, and they tend to have a sort of unique lean all of their own if that makes sense? For example, most masculine dolls can be quite androgynous with the right faceup and the fantastical outfits you put them in.

    13. When I got into the hobby as a young teen, I preferred male dolls because I preferred male characters, because of this I got a cute Kid Delf Ani boy. Now, years after unlearning all the internalised misogyny I directed towards female characters I just want a girl doll so bad :...( I want to make her super cute and dress her up. I'm tempted to get a girl body for my KDF boy, or modify him to be an androgynous intersex character, as he's my first doll and it feels bad just to sell him.

I'd also really be interested in finding a way to make a super androgynous butch gf for a future female femme doll. (I'm a femme lesbian dating a butch lesbian myself.) The problem is a lot of female doll body sculpts are sooooo feminine, I'd be tempted to get a male doll and just go to town on customising it into a female doll. I've customised fashion toy dolls a few times and given it a go but it's never worked due to the weird dimorphism between the male and female dolls (Male fashion dolls are so thick limbed and huge in comparison to the female dolls!!!) But with BJD's I feel there's more androgynous male sculpts on offer so I might have a better chance.

    14. I have a preference for feminine bodies in my dolls as it’s a body type I’m comfortable with, but that doesn’t stop me from having them present in any particular way I desire. My first doll is a girl body but the character of the doll is gender fluid shapeshifter and runs around in both girly girly clothes and masc presenting play clothes. :3nodding:

    15. I've done the modding (I needed a 75cm muscular girl) and it's really fun, and also v doable! I also have a butch character who's on a still feminine but less feminine when dressed the way I dress her kind of body, and I'm really enjoying her as well (turns out, twigling bodies look really good in androgynous clothing!) I also have an agender character on the same body (with the flat a-bust) and it works really well for them

    16. That’s so awesome! Now I want to make a muscular girly :love

    17. So far, I definitely prefer femme over masc bodies for my collection. Although honestly I would prefer if more dolls came un-sexed/without genitals in bigger sizes.

    18. All my BJDs so far are male and it's mostly cause all the OCs that I have plans to shell are male ... but that may change if I fall in love with a female sculpt for one of my OCs!

    19. I don't really have an overall preference... I do acknowledge that I seem to rarely go for more masculine expressions. Most of my characters are on the androgynous spectrum when it comes to how they present themselves.

    20. I prefer females, because I like to make feminine clothing and jewelry more. I have both female and male dolls though.
