1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What has been unexpected, or surprised you, about getting into the hobby?

Aug 28, 2013

    1. I wasn't expecting the heft, even though I'd been warned about it.

I also didn't expect the slight translucency of the doll. My baby almost seems to have a happy "glow" in bright light (which I don't do often).

And she was so beautiful, and posing her is a BREEZE!

(I also didn't expect the long waiting times. Sure, I knew it would be longer than for other dolls, but it feels so much longer than it is sometimes.)

    2. I am surprised at how much I've improved my photography skills by taking pictures of my dolls. I'd never seriously edited a photo and just took casual pictures on my cell phone prior to joining this hobby. I'm also surprised at how much my dolls have stimulated my imagination and creativity. It's so easy for me to create new characters and write about them when they are in resin form.

    3. I did not expect to end up with so many. I wanted three. THREE! ...Oops.
I did not expect to learn to sew. Or how to do proper photography.

    4. I did not expect a doll would rebel and become the character he wanted to be instead the character he was chosen to be.
I didn't expect to start taking interest and falling in love with anthro dolls, they had never attracted me and suddenly I find me fantasizing about having one or two... xD

    5. Long before my first doll became my first doll, I'd seen her on someone else's blog and fallen in love with her. I never thought the person who wrote it would end up being one of my dearest online friends. And I never in a million years would have expected that someday she'd downsize her doll family a bit - and the doll I loved so much would be mine.

    6. Relatives wanting to now more about a hobby that's become such a big part of me. My aunt ordered me a new tiny yesterday and said I can have her as an early Christmas gift.

    7. I guess I was surprised at how much inspiration I could get from these dolls and how much deeper I was able to make the stories for the characters I already had ^^

I was also really surprised at how easy it was to want more and more dolls (even if I couldn't afford them). I mean, I thought I would just buy one doll and spoil him... I was wrong, very wrong.

And I guess it was also surprising how much I enjoyed sharing my dolls. I don't do it a lot because I lack any talent in taking pictures whatsoever but still... I enjoy it a lot :D

    8. How much money I'm willing to spend on them.... like how much I spend on their shoes that I would look twice at before buying for myself. Clothes too... how much I spend on clothes and getting tailored clothes.

I was suprised at how cuddly they are for being a hard resin.

    9. It surprised me how much money I was willing to part with to make my dolls look nice. I understood how much money the dolls themselves were going to cost but I didn't anticipate buying them $40 dresses when I don't wear anything worth more than $10 myself. $50 shoes? Sure. $110 for a faceup? Take my money!

    10. It was a surprise how long I had to wait before actually having the doll in my hands... I thought it'd only be a month or so, but 3...? Dx
