What if our dolls had Jointed Fingers?

Feb 21, 2006

    1. I have a pair of Mecha Angel articulated hands from Soom. I strung them myself, it was not difficult to do. I do like the hands and they are worth the price and effort it takes to assemble them. For photo shoots and expression they are great. Especially if he wears gloves if I want a realistic shoot. The joints in the hands do make it less real, but it can be delt with.

    2. OMG! There is a doll out there with jointed fingers! And I so want him! Just because of that. Lol. They look like so much fun to work with! XD

    3. I'm sure it has already been noted that Soom has jointed hands (I think it's Soom) and I looooove them <3

    4. I knew the jointed hands existed, I just wish they were more 'popular'. I understand why they are so much money "cheapest I found were around $70 or $80) but if they came with the dolls fullset option, I would definitely get them, because I want at least one pair for when I pose a BJD.

    5. Hi everyone!:)
I have recently been toying with the idea of jointed hands, for those of you out there what are the pro's and con's of them?
Also are there any that fit sd16 bodies?
if you have pics great! lol ;)
      Cheers
      J

    6. Pros - they are very expressive when it comes to posing dolls for pics. They also give the doll the ability to hold all manner of things.
Cons - they are a bit fiddly. You'll spend a good bit of time putting them back in place and readjusting them.

I don't know about fit for an SD16 specifically, but there are a good many different hands on the market right now for different sized dolls, so I would assume you could find something that would work. I have 60cm Dikadoll girl hands myself. They're the kind of thing that I really like to have for certain dolls where it really suits their characters to be able to have the added dexterity, but they aren't something that I feel the need to have for all my dolls. Usually when I'm not having my girl hold something, I ball them up into little fists so the fingers don't get knocked around into painful looking positions. I have two other dolls that I do plan to get jointed hands for in the future.

    7. i've seen the jointed hands and personally they don't appeal to me aesthetically. i like the idea of being able to move the fingers, but not how much more obviously fake they look. i'm happier swapping hands for different poses like the fairyland dolls do. i wish that was available for more dolls. but i can't see picking up the fully jointed ones any time soon..

    8. sorry Zagzagael i didnt think before i said! whoops!
Thanks for the feedback, I have been looking at a lot of photos and i love the idea of them, but dont know if i would like to result.. sometimes they look a bit skeletal and miss matched on resin colour so i would worry about that.
Maybe in the future i will get some and experiment, thanks again for chatting!

    9. To me, jointed hands would probably freak the heck out of me and I don't think I'd be here now. Nothing else about BJDs freak me out, but for some reason, I think jointed hands would completely turn me off to them.

    10. While I think jointed hands would be fun to pose and mess around with, I wouldn't get one for my dolls because I don't really like how they look. :/

My first BJD is going to have pretty hands, and I have no intention of switching them out.

    11. Jointed hands have their pro's and con's. You save a lot of money in the long run if you buy jointed hands, because you can put them in any kind of pose you want, and you don't have to go searching for a pair of hands that are in the position you require.

The con is that there aren't many companies that make them. So far, all I know of are four companies with jointed hands, and I don't think any of them fit my dolls. Plus, they also have a very... skeletal look to them because they're jointed, and sometimes that can take away from the overall look you're trying to portray. I also wonder if it would be kind of a pain to have to restring the hands (if you need to do that at all) and risk loosing part of a thumb or something.

    12. There are plenty of jointed hands for dolls. They are quite common. I was just thinking about buying some for my MSD. Sometimes, they look kinda weird because of all the joints, and look very skeletal, but I like how you can make very natural poses with them.

    13. How many companies make them? I can only remember four being discussed. I'd also like to get some for my MSD and SD, but I don't think I've seen companies that have resin colors that would match.

    14. I like the idea and have seen a couple, but nothing that looks as elegant as the dolls they are made for. So, for now, I'd probably just purchase extra hands.

    15. I've seen dolls with finger joints and I don't like them. They look less realistic to me. I haven't played with one to know how they feel and work, but I don't really like the look of them at all so I don't see the point. It's good that companies make different hand molds, though, that aren't jointed. I like the option even if it costs more.

    16. Jointed hands do exist. I have seen them on the Soom Super Gem site but when I saw the price for them, I thought that I could get a whole lot of doll clothes with that money. I would like to have them, yes but I will have to wait till prices are more condusive to me owning them.

    17. one of my SD girl is having a jointed hands..
      pros:
is that I could pose the hands in any way I want..piece sign, rock sign, holding a gun, a cup or anything that she could hold.
you won't need to worry about breaking a finger, since it moves.

      cons:
is that it is strung, so once those strings loosen, you know what would happen..
as most of the comments, yeah, it does look like skeletal..

chinese companies sells them..but I as I remember only SD sized hands are available..you'll be having problems about skintones, but I think you could blush the hands the same as the body you'll be using..if your body and jointed hands are from the same company, no need for blushing..

    18. jointed hands freak me out. they are too spooky for me

    19. Its really funny to hear so many people say 'no' now that jointed hands are available, when from the looks of the beginning thread it was merged with, they were something of a desired goal. A friend of mine has some on one of her guys and they're pretty awesome to see, since his hands are so much more expressive. If I could afford it, I think I'd have a pair for each of my MSD's, but they're just too darned expensive.
