What is your grail doll?

Feb 13, 2013

    1. Mine is a SID Eva. With makeup option B. I love her!

    2. My grail doll is CP Delf Lishe, for me she is expensive even for second hand and came with nothing but she's worth it!:fangirl:
She's more beautiful everyday......ssshhhh don't let my other dolls hear me saying it.

    3. I'm still pretty new to the hobby, so I really haven't found my one and only 'IT' doll. However, I'm in love with Doll-Chateau, and wouldn't mind having all of their creations. I guess that would be considered expensive

    4. My grail doll is Ringdoll Andrew. He's just so perfect for me! I can't dislike anything about his sculpt.

    5. Mine is my first Mana MNM and my Delf SOONY.

My dream came true after 2 years of looking and wishing, when I found my first Mana on the DOA market. He even came home to me on my birthday. So we both have same birthdays <3

And SOONY I had admired so many times but ended up not ordering for some reason. When I heard that Luts were discontinuing they`re old Delf line I freaked out and ordered her as quick as I could. Lucky for me I had the money ready to order her.

    6. I'm lucky to have all the dolls I really wanted/yearned for since I started collect BJDs. Some of them are very common sculpts, some of them are hard to find.
Except one, I doubt I will be able to afford him one day: Bermann, a.k.a. "please, somebody, shoot me".
      -_-

    7. My grail is a Volks SDGr Lorina. I don't know if I'll ever get her, I'm not even sure what to do with her, if I got her, but I dream about her. :)

    8. Soom Amber Pure Spirit.

Does this even need to be explained?

Basically I just haven't found any other mold as fitting to my tastes and wishes for this hobby. I've been close to obtaining her few times, but most of the times wasn't fast enough or just had to snap out of it and pay bills etc..

    9. Anri, my first Doll. He is an Dollzone Megi Head on a Loongsoul Boy Body. And I love him way to much.

    10. Interesting to read everyone's thoughts. What a varied group we are!

I recently got what I had considered my Grail Doll - a Hound. He's wonderful. I didn't want to buy one that was second-hand and had a fabulous faceup, because I had something specific in mind for him and hate wiping faceups if they're well done (seems a waste). So I jumped on the chance to grab one on the newer body last year when you could get the old heads.

So aside from that - the one I'd have to have if it ever showed up again would be an unmodded LovelyHouse Shin-Ma. My Zelgadis came to me modded (dyed) and has been further modded, and I love him to distraction. But if I could get one in its original state? Boom. :)

    11. My grail dolly is a Soom Aloa Centaur. Everything about that little guy is perfect! No. two would be a Soom Keny.

    12. Terribly enough, mine is a limited... its a Volks Lorina... i hope she gets re-released so i can get her ^_^;

    13. Currently?

A Lati Red L. Once I have him, I shall have the entire Lati Red male line!!! MWHAHAHAHAHA. And then, with my power complete I shall quest one final time for the long lost Lati Red girl, and try to take over the WORLD!

    14. I have two grail dolls right now:

      1) Lati Red Special Irene: She's limited, but she's so gorgeous! The instant I saw her photos I made up a character for her and decided I want to try and get her someday.

      2) Lati Black Limited Istvan: Unfortunately I'm unable to get him while he's still available for sale, but I do plan on getting him in the future to be a character I already have in mind. :) He's actually going to be a friend's character. This sculpt looks so amazingly mature and handsome!

    15. My grail doll is hands down VOLKS CHARLOTTE :D

    16. My grail is a Volks SDGr Alice, hopefully she'll be rereleased at some point....

    17. My grail doll always was Soom TG Adamelli, now that I am able to get her in the FC event I need to find me another grail. Possibly Bygg and Beyla :)

    18. It seems everyone's grail doll is expensive or an LE. Is yours?

This is not really so strange, since many bjds are expensive and LE. To me, it seems as if more bjds are LE than basic/standard! And even standard dolls often are sold for a limited time and can be hard to get. None of bjds are terribly common, whether they are expensive or inexpensive or limited or not!

OK... so what I rather wish for, but am not being actively on the hunt for, is a doll with a SDink faceup. I don't have a clear vision of what he would be, but if I see one, I will be thinking about buying it (depending). I have just seen so many of the dolls she has painted and find them exquisitely beautiful... Maybe TOO beautiful for me! (I worry that I would not be able to properly appreciate such a thing!)

Is yours a more affordable doll?

What is affordable, really? Spending even $200 on a doll is a LOT of money, I think. But I can afford to spend hundreds... just not sure I shouldn't really be buying something else. (But I still spend thousands on dolls, so I guess I'm just addicted, no matter the cost.) Anyway, I think price should not matter. If you wish for a doll that is $200, that is all good. I have dolls that cost that much that I truly love. If you wish for a doll that is $1,000, then you have the money or save up for the money, and buy that doll. But you buy because you really want that doll, not because of the price. No one WANTS to spend lots of money for a doll, after all. I just have to spend certain amounts if I really wish for that particular doll, and that's just the way it is.

Anyway, I suspect finding the perfect doll with the perfect SDink faceup would be closer to $1000 than $200... Mostly because I like more mature dolls, so the bigger dolls are more likely to be $600 and up. There are less expensive large dolls, but the average cost is around that much or more for a large doll.

Do you have your grail doll, what do you think of him/her now?

I don't really have a grail doll, since I usually hunt down any doll I really want and try to buy it--so I own the dolls that I really wish for. I sort of consider ALL my dolls Grails, since I wouldn't buy them if I didn't really, really, really want them!

I loved them before I had them. I still love them as much now! That's why I love bjds and love hanging here. I really, really love these dolls!

    19. I have a lot of dolls I'd love to have, and have had a long wishlist from shortly after my first doll came home (I bought having never seen one in real life as an artistic experiment). For me, for the doll to be a Grail Doll, there has to be something that separates the want I feel for that doll from the want I feel for other dolls. There also has to be some measure of difficulty in obtaining that doll (as they're named, it's like finding the Holy Grail). I dearly love all the dolls I have home, but at no point did I consider any of them as Grail Dolls.

The first doll I thought might be a Grail Doll for me was Volks SDC Kurt. He was, in fact, still available for purchase on the Volks site when I first found out about ABJDs, but I chose to step into the hobby with a less expensive option... and one that was more open to my creative side (if I should ever get Kurt I'd want to keep the Volks face/blushing... the only doll I feel that way about). But, while I still would like to get him, I recently found another doll that just gave me an all encompassing feeling of slack-jawed awe... and completely out of reach in my current financial situation... not only does she cost around two months' wages, I truly would not have the space for her in the apartment I can afford as things stand... so she is providing impetus to me to truly work at finding better employment... Dollmore Trinity Jude. Unlike everyone else on my wishlist, I don't have any plans about who she would be, or how I would personalize her, I just know I need her to come to me and tell me what to do.

If I should ever acquire either my Grail or my almost-Grail? Well, firstly, neither one would cause me to drop any other dolls off my wishlist, I'd seriously love to be in a position to have either a section of my home, or even something of a guest house nature be dedicated doll territory, full of settings for photography and such (I've always been in love with Colleen Moore's dollhouse). Kurt would actually probably become a cabinet baby... again, I love him with the Volks paint, so that would be protected, and I don't really think I'll ever have the strong 'bond' to any doll I haven't painted myself. Jude would probably mean I need to get back to weightlifting so I don't throw my back out finding new places to photograph her.

If I sound a little odd, well, I'm one of those writer-types who talks to their characters inside their head.

    20. Well, he wasn't limited but now I'm not sure if I will ever get my hands on a Iplehouse Roger. He's perfect for one of my characters but I never got around to getting him. Mainly 'cause I figured he'd always be available. I'm hoping they will bring back the EID line in the future.
