What kind of bjd hair do you prefer? (deliberately vague)

Jan 16, 2015

    1. I prefer normal fake hair wigs. Fur wigs are a nice price, but all look the same, like scene hair to me. That just doesnt't appeal to me, unless it's supposed to be a fuzzy character, like a cat.

    2. I prefer synthetic wigs most of the time. Fur are better in a few situations (I've seen some really nice fur wigs for short styles and more textured natural hair styles), but most fur wigs look too much like troll doll hair for my liking. Handmade alpaca wigs are an exception. I like almost every one I've seen, but for mass-produced wigs, synthetic wins.

    3. I prefer fur wigs for guys are they are easier to style and looks very nice but i do go for normal synthetic hair wigs for guys as well if there is a specific style that i am looking for that fur wigs cannot achieve. But for my girls i normally go for synthetic hair wigs as i prefer my girls in long wigs. I normally buy from stores but i have owned a few nice handmade wigs, i also prefer soft cap wigs to hard cap wigs

    4. I am not overly picky really. I lean more to the synthetic wigs vs the fibers because I simply cant afford to buy my dolls an $80 wig. I wish I could but until I get a better paying job I just can't. When it comes to length I like the length to fit what I want for the doll unless its a fiber wig. Short fur wigs look messy to me and I don't care for them so they have to be at least shoulder length to my doll if I am going to consider it. I think stitched wigs are very near but they look like they would cost a lot to buy home made and very time consuming to make so glue is fine too. I like soft cap vs hard but it cant be helped much when your making your own cap from glue when its home made which is fine. I'm not all that picky. I just lead towards what I can afford for now. I only own synthetic wigs and one fur wig I got on ebay for pretty cheap in a perfect color and length for my doll and currently my dolls don't share wigs. Until my third one comes in then he wont have a choice but to wear one of my dolls older wigs until I can get him one.

    5. I have 3 synthetic wigs and one mohair. I really want to get an alpaca fiber wig for my girls because i love their looks and how you can style them. Between synthetic and mohair wigs though i like how shiny and pretty synthetic wigs look. A lot of mohair wigs can look kind of bad imo but the one in my mong-a is ok :3

    6. erm...going down the list-
Handmade, All the ones I've seen don't fit the characters I have in mind.
I believe the wefts I have are synthetic. They feel synthetic, at the very least. I prefer the look and being heat resistant sure is handy.
      Definitely stitched. I like being able to rip it apart if I really really wanted to. I'd kick myself for doing it but at least the option is there ahaha;;
Definitely wigs over painted hair. Wigs for dolls, painted hair for figures is my preference.
I think soft caps. Never had a hard cap one.
Medium length. Leaves me with leftover hair to make another one.

I own some store bought synthetics so they don't sit bald, I figured it would take me a while to make the ones I want by hand. I don't intend swap wigs, I prefer each one to have their own style.

    7. My tastes on particulars vary from doll to doll, but most of my girls have store bought, mid-long length synthetic fibre wigs, and my boys fake fur.
I'm absolutely against using any animal-based materials on my dolls, whether its leather for shoes, fur for clothing, or wigs....that's a bit no-no. Always happy to try other kinds of materials though, if I see something interesting.
The longer-length fake fur wigs are growing on me...;)

    8. I think my personal favorites for my dolls are alpaca and mohair wigs :) Because the fibers are so fine and soft they seem to be more "to scale" in my opinion! :D Other wigs are lovely too though <3

    9. mohair and alpaca are the silky , softest most beautiful fibers but hard to get an actually good wig made the way you want it and to find someone to weft the pounds of silky alpaca hair I have is impossible so the next best thing is the synthetic mohair from Monique gold.
its just as fine ,soft and silky as the real thing

    10. In depends of the doll! Well, its customization, of course.
I had synthetic store-bought wigs, 'cause that's what I used for years. Now I prefer natural fibers wig. And I rather use handmade wigs. I like to do them myself but I don't have so much time, so I rarely do wigs. I make mohair wigs (hide wigs) : they are useful because they are quickly made. I make glued wigs too : they allows more fantasy. Right now I'm trying to do a lace wig. But it is very time consuming!
About lenght, my dolls have long to short hair wigs. I prefer medium or short wigs, but once again it depends of the customization of the doll.

    11. I currently prefer synthetic wigs - different lengths depending on the doll.
The only wigs I have currently have soft caps but when I get some material in the mail within the next few weeks I'm thinking I'll probably try making them with glue rather than sewing them

    12. I like storebought fiber wigs that look realistic. Not that dull, thick hair look that some cheaper fiber wigs seem to have and not that plasticy shine either.

Fake fur wigs can be good looking if styled right, but then again they look off to me if paired with dolls that wear nice fiber wigs...

That short fur - no idea what material that is, looks meh. Short hair wigs of all kinds usually look bad - at least I've not seen any good ones yet (I mean real short hair, like many men wear it in real life haha). So my boys wear cuts that are around ear-length. For a girl I'd pick longer cuts too, but realistic, I'm not into hair that's so long it can touch the ground.

    13. For me, it all depends on the doll and its character.

I've had all sorts of wigs over the years - from synthetics to faux "fur" to natural fibers, like alpaca, angora, and "Tibetan" mohair + regular mohair. I've come to prefer natural fibers, as I feel they look more realistic, and have thus recently started making my own doll wigs, which is very satisfying. As well, I like some faux "fur" wigs - the more realistic types & colors - for some of my guys.

As for length and style - again, depends on doll and character. I have short and edgy, as well as mid length, long, and very long, with textures ranging from curly to wavy to smooth and straight.

    14. I prefer fiber wigs and I like longer hair and ear length hair.

    15. I prefer handmade mohair wigs (curly preferably :P), usually between medium and long lengths. I like the softness of them and the fact that in up-close photos they still look awesome.

I have also (unfortunately) only bought two synthetic wigs, and both were of poor quality. I know perhaps that the only reason that happened was because I'm not good and finding the right dealers etc, but it hasn't made me want to purchase any synthetic wigs any time soon and has only increased my love for real mohair ones.

    16. I prefer soft, shiny, and medium-thick wigs. Even if the color for the wig is right, if it is dull and coarse, it will go into the reject wig collection. Mohair/synthetic mohair and I just can't seem to agree, which is too bad because I like the way it looks on other collectors' dolls! Finally, all my girls seem to wind up with wigs that have big ringlets. I guess I just like the added personality, but curls do require extra maintenance, for sure!

    17. It depends on the doll and character, but generally I really prefer synthetic fiber wigs. I don't like most fur wigs, and I'm SUPER picky about the ones I do like. I have two dolls in fur wigs right now, and they're both colorful, impeccably made three-piece fake fur wigs, but I'd still like to get them similarly colored fiber wigs because that just happens to be my aesthetic. I like the look of fur wigs on other people's dolls (my girlfriend in particular likes fur wigs a lot more than I do lol), I just don't prefer it for mine. :p

    18. I prefer alpaca, Tibetan wool, or mohair, and shoulder length or longer (which is what I prefer IRL). The synthetic fibers remind me of regular toy dolls.

    19. I prefer mohair wigs since its easier to maintain and style.

    20. I love angora wigs with elastic head caps!
I had a glue cap wig ordered and it didn't fit my doll's head which sucked :(
