What matters more, a doll's appearance or posing abililties?

Aug 5, 2009

    1. I'm most interested in appearance. I would definitely buy for face over posing ability. I do not mind my single jointed boy at all, his body is gorgeous and there is not so much of a difference between his posing and my double jointed boy that I am turned off by him. And hey, who says you can't hybrid the body? (:

    2. I try and find a happy medium that maybe this one doesn't look PERFECT to me, but it's posing is fantastic.
I mean, generally my dolls are fully clothed, so the aesthetics of the body aren't always so important. But it's always fun to have your male doll lounging around without a shirt :P

    3. For me it's the doll's appearance that matters the most. But if you are wanting your dolls to have a more poseable body, I would look into seeing if you can take your first choice doll and put her head on a more poseable body.

    4. I go for appearances more than poseability (since my dolls are just standing around anyway, they might as well look pretty while at it :) ).

    5. I think I'd go for posing abilities....well actually it just depends how limited the pretty doll is.

    6. I'm more for looks than posing ability. With a little patience and playing around (and sometimes sueding or restringing), you can get any doll to pose in almost any way you want it to, no matter how tight, floppy or stubborn. I could care less if a doll has over 9000 joints and poses like a contortionist, if it isn't pretty to look at, I'm not interested. That goes for both the face and body. I've seen some incredible doll bodies out there with amazing posing abilities, but they look gangly, wonky or just plain ugly because of the elaborately engineered joints. So yeah, I'd much rather have a pretty looking doll that can barely stand on it's own. I could work with that. :B

    7. I would say appearance. It is the first thing you notice when you look at a doll.

    8. At this time, apperance is more important to me. The only poses I need a doll to hold are standing and sitting. If I decide to do photoshoots then posing would be slightly less to equally important as apperance. I'd probably start making hybrid dolls so I could get the best of both.

    9. Why not make it a hybrid? Get the head you love the most and exchange the body for one that you like better. That's the way most of my first few dolls are. ^w^

If not, I'd say go for the middle one. That way you get a face you like but don't have to deal with a body you can't work with.

    10. I usually pick aesthetics over posing, no question. I want eye candy with my dolls. The downside to that is that sometimes you can't do as much with them, and they don't look as good or as "real" in the photos/photoshoots (if that's important to you) because they tend to be so stiff and inflexible as opposed to some of the less pleasing bodies that can look more natural when clothed. The new dollshe bodies (dsam32) are probably the first that on first glance I was like ":\ meh" but saw that they look so amazingly lifelike in some of their poses that the doll seems more interesting and like it'd be more fun to do things with.

    11. D: Well I guess I'll go for the face..:D
Joints doesn't matter unless it affects me to the extent that I couldn't even cuddle my boy D:

    12. I'm somewhere in the middle. If the body is amazing, but the face is just so-so I probably won't buy. Likewise if the face is amazing but the body is a totally unposeable pile of kicky joints, I'm less likely to buy. I suppose I'm more likely to go for looks than posing ability most of the time...I have a SG Beryl who can't sit up by herself, but her hands and arms pose * b e a u t i f u l l y * and I adore that face, so in that instance I did choose form over function :)

    13. Appearance for me all the way.
Even though some of my dolls have less pose-ability than others, i do not mind because i find their little faces to be absolutely darling, and their bodies are still aesthetically appealing as well.

For example my DZ yume, she is pretty limited in poses with a single jointed body, but i find her beautiful anyway. i find double jointed dolls are less appealing to me because there are more joints exposed.

    14. Appearance is definitely important, but if the poseability matters to you, you should get just get the head and find another body that you like with better poseability.

    15. I would really go for the face value, I think this is the first one to be recognized in dolls. ( if she is beautiful, sad or scary-looking) though I must say, poseabilities is a plus factor; the fact that, a doll who can do varied poses are much awesome than those dolls who are just either standing or sitting alone. If you really want both, I think the best way is find beautiful head sculpt and matched it with a body which poses better. ^^ ( I love cute and charming dolls, that is why I fell in love with the dolls I have. I don't need them to be so athletic and bendable just enought to do basic poses.)

    16. If you don't mind, I'll give my humble opinion. I think the most important is you love this doll. Everybody likes her dolls has got a perfect poseability, but if you have got a perfect posability doll and you don't think she is beauty... You can't do anything with her. There is always the possibility to hybridize.

For buy a doll you must have got you own criteria. In my case I evaluated the doll face, the doll body aesthetically, the poseability, and customization possibility. So I choose a perfect balance between poseability and beauty <---(I think Minifée is perfect ; D:aheartbea)

    17. The face are very important but if you can get two are perfect!

For example I have a ED lydia but i think that i need more pose, I search por another body.

      Thanks

    18. For me, appearance is way more important. I don't care how well a doll poses, if I don't like the way they look I won't be happy with them.

    19. Appearance. There are so many tricks to making a poorly posable doll more so, not to mention trick photography and just luck.

    20. I actually don't think about the posing ability of a doll. If the doll in general is what I like then I go for it. If posing does prove to be a pain, I can always get a different body. I just prefer what I like over the posing abilities.
