It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. What matters more, a doll's appearance or posing abililties?

Aug 5, 2009

    1. a doll can be most beautiful and best poser, it is just that you have to look for it a very long well, if i have to choose, i think poseability comes first

    2. I would buy a totally beautiful doll even if it was a pain to pose, to me it does not really mater if a doll can touch it's face or do complicated poses.

    3. Both things are importent to me. Because I love to pose my boys and they have to look good for me, when they are out in the world.

    4. I try to find a nice balance of the two, but if i had to choose one, I would pick appearance.

    5. I vote face! Mostly because getting a good body later is cheaper.

    6. My answer is: both.

I have two Iplehouse SIDs I chose specifically for their looks. Not just the face, but the bodies are gorgeous and I wouldn't change them out even though they are not as easily poseable as some other dolls.

My more poseable doll is not as gorgeous, but I love that he moves so easily. I feel like he was designed and constructed really well. (Also his resin is really silky smooth.)

I intend to get at least one more of each of these types of dolls, so I probably love them equally but for different reasons.

    7. Both are important to me, but I'm willing to sacrifice mobility for appearance!

    8. I gotta have my posability. If it's gonna be a pain in the ass to work with out of the box then it ain't coming home basically. A pretty face can always be hybrided on.

    9. I chose by looks... but that is my first doll and I had nothing to relate to. I didn't think about the perks of having a doll with a body that could do just about anything. I think next time that might be a bigger part of my choice in a doll, however beauty would always beat structure. Every doll can move... maybe he can't fold into a pretzel oh well lol.

    10. This is a great topic and I've learned so much from reading the responses. I never knew you could change heads and put them on different bodies. Shows how little I know about the BJD world. I have an Iplehouse girl and absolutely love her face and body, but I do wish she could pose as well as my fairyland dolls. I think that ultimately I would have to go with the face as being most important, but I also want a doll whose head isn't so big that it makes the body tip over when sitting. I've heard that some of the BJDs are like that.

    11. Their posability is great 'n all.. but I'd definitely have to say Looks. This is because I get my dolls to represent characters in my stories and book :) so.. how they look is incredibly important to me. Posing can be helped with sueding, cheating.. lol photoshop.

    12. The look is more important to me than posing. A doll has to be beautiful when it lives with me. Of course posing is important, too. But there always is the possability to change the body to a better posing one if you are not satisfied. I would not say no to a doll because I know its body doesn't pose well. But I'd say no to a body when I don't like the head :)

    13. I buy dolls based entirely upon how they look. I'm not too thrilled with single-piece torsos, but I have one on order because it came with an LE head and I'm not sure what else would match. Besides, the build is perfect for the face so I don't mind dealing with it.

    14. Posability is super important, but the face matters most. If you don't like looking at the doll, why have it???

    15. I would rather have a sturdy doll than a poseable doll. If it can sit and stand like a rock then it's perfect for me, and appearance is all important.

    16. Appearance is first. There's also a possibility of making a hybrid...

    17. Even if the posing's not that great, if I really like the dolls sculpt then I'm getting it regardless. That being said, there are quite a few companies out there who offer different bodies so that you can choose which one you want. If double-jointed is an option then I'll probably go for that body, but I can live with single-jointed.

    18. I make the choice based on appearance rather than posing, definitely. I don't play with them much or take many photos, so it's not much a problem for me. I do love how Ilari's Domuya Flexi-body can curl up so well, but I'd still love to switch it out for a Doll Chateau body someday. It wouldn't be nearly as flexible but it's got the emaciated look his character should have, so I'd prefer it.

    19. When I've only seen company pictures, I don't know much about the real posing abilities but go more for the doll's appearance. Of course companies may help the doll with posing, so I can never be too sure what they can really do. When there have been purchases already and I see a lot of good posing pictures and/or a review about their posing abilities, I may reconsider my previous opinion, of only the doll being good looking.

    20. I think the physical appearance is way more important! You can always hybrid, right?
