What matters more, a doll's appearance or posing abililties?

    1. i plan to order my dolls with the double jointed bodies but it was their faces that called out to me :) :D<3

    2. I've found that when it comes to the arms/hands most dolls are about the same. It's the legs that make the real difference in posing. Standard legs generally can't pose cross legged, can't draw their knees up to their faces and bascially can't do much but bend at the knee. Wiring can help though. So if you're into posing using various leg positions, the double jointed dolls, or the ones with the extra thigh joint, are going to do what you want.

That said, if you don't love the face, I don't think you're going to be happy with your doll in the end.

Like others have said, a hybrid may be the answer. If they sell the head of doll #1 separately and the more posable body separately you may be able to combine them if the resin color matches or is close enough that it doesn't bother you.

    3. I always thought the face is what I need.
But then I realize not able to just prop the doll down, pose, take a pic without them falling everywhere is very frustrating. Hence now I am thinking a lot more about hybrid, have the face you like and the body that'd pose. Even if the body doesn't look super attractive (I think single joint doll look better than double joints)... not like they are going to be naked a lot right.

So ya. A bit of both, and see what one can work with.

    4. For me personally, I'd say that I'd go for the doll's appearance over posability. The thing is, you've really got to go for a doll that captures your heart. On top of that, bodies can be swapped but heads are another matter.

To be honest, single joints aren't actually that bad. But if they bother you too much, you can always sell that body and buy a more posable one.

    5. Posing, specifically posing on the torso...but then again I think that not only are two part female bodies awful at posing, they are not pleasing on the eye either. Single jointed bodies I can bear, though I wouldn't call them easy to pose. I will go for a three part body whenever I can, more posable and certainly prettier in females. The only exception I make for that is the minifee a-line bodies, good posing on the triple joints but the placement of the chest joint makes the doll look utterly hideous to me, so I will drop the posability factor in favour of something that doesn't make my eyes burn when looking at it.

    6. I get the molds I want, I dont care about posing after all if u have enough patience any doll can pose. Im not saying they can do really difficult ones, but they can make a good picture and u can always suede if u must. Im not willing to hybrid my doll to make it pose any better though.,

    7. Personaly, i think apperance is more important, since most problems with posing can be helped with wire or sueding. However if the joints aren't very good that would pose a problem..But thats just my opinion :3

    8. Why would you favor a doll for their appearance or posing abilities? Does the posing play a big part in dolls you buy? Or is the the appearance?

I tend to find a compromise. I don't like some of the prettier sculpts because they can't move right. Conversely, I won't buy a really flexy doll if it's not pretty enough.

    9. For me, it's a bit of both. As I'm not really doing much photography at the moment. I'd like Citlali to look pretty just sitting around. Lol. :'D
But even though I love her to DEATH, I wish she was a bit more poseable. She doesn't have many options when it comes to posing. And either her strings are to tight, or to lose or something. 'Cause her hands don't like to stay up, and she likes to move around. Lol. But I just add that to her personality.. 'Cause I don't know how to restring. XD
      Edit: However, I do choose dolls based on looks. And not posing ability. So, I guess the whole posing thing would be at a lose to me.. If I picked a doll I really liked and they weren't very poseable. XD;

    10. Well I wouldn't want one that poses awfully but the head is the most important part.

    11. I'd say appearance comes first, but if you don't have the posability, that can really detract from the doll. I buy dolls by the way they look, then figure out any issues with posability when I have them in my hands. Its great that they can be modified if they have troubles with posing. I do need them to be able to move and hold in position when I take pics of them, but I guess if someone collects dolls just to sit them on a shelf, it might not be as important to them.

    12. I used to be a huge fan of single joints for aesthetic reasons until I got my SDC.
He's so much more fun to play with!
Sometimes I wish my girls could have the same kind of joints but I'm sure they wouldn't be as pretty looking.
It really depends on the doll to though too. I once had a Domuya 60 body and all the joints drove me crazy.
Liking the body matters but for me the head is the most important anyway.

    13. For me it's all about the face. You can switch bodies or even mod them to improve posing ability, but it's much harder to enjoy a doll with a face that you don't love 100%.

    14. Like Tony Stark, I say "Is it too much to ask for both?":kitty2

'Poseability' has a lot of different factors involved - sculpt, balance, jointing - and can be improved and customized by the user to their preference to a certain extent. Similarly, a head can be transformed by a well-executed face-up from 'meh' to 'doll of yer dreeeeeemz'!

There is always the possibility of mix-and-match with a hybrid to get exactly what you want, too. I know if poseability was my primary goal -like if I were doing action-oriented photostories or so- I would be very tempted to hybrid to an Obitsu body.

That said, my choices usually go 'head-first'. As dearly as I love the improvements to the Pipos cat-body, I wouldn't have sprung for a Cheshire if it weren't for that face, and it was the winsome Pukisha (it was the 'sleepy-face' that first stole my heart) that persuaded me to try Pukis, and the sub-tiny scale as a whole.

    15. It's both. I was torn between getting a Soom Lazule and a Unidoll Jace. Both are pretty boys to die for, but Lazule won out because the Super Gem body has a mid-torso joint and the Unidoll does not.

I'd still like Jace someday, but I'm not in a hurry.

    16. Hmm for me it's usually about the looks, you can always mod the body to help making it pose better. So yes for me it's all about the looks

On the other hand if I'm looking for JUST a body I am more picky about the looks AND posability.

    17. Definitely appearance. I'll take a doll that poses like absolute crap (as long as it has just one natural pose) if the body of the doll is gorgeous. The one exception to the rule is if the doll body has wobbly feet on a huge ball joint that, if you tried to stand them, their feet would just slide into random unnatural positions, such that it would never be possible for them to stand without ankle-stabilizing shoes. Not only does this look unnatural, but it's a really dumb reason for the doll not to be able to stand. And I don't have anything against dolls that don't stand well for other reasons. I understand that some people like the flexibility for the doll to use high-heel shoes if they want, but it's not worth it!! I have sold two otherwise very lovely dolls (Notdoll 60cm girl body, Domadoll Kkotmu) based on this pet peeve.

EDIT: Just to clarify, I never consider the appearance of the head because I could always just put the head on a different body. But I am JUST as picky about the appearance of the body as the appearance of the head, and I will gladly sacrifice posability for a gorgeous body.

    18. I bought my first doll because of the face and the body. She doesn't pose nearly as well as my other doll, but I love how the first looks so much that it doesn't matter much.

Also, while she doesn't pose as well, I haven't done anything to make her pose better, such as sueding, wiring, etc. Pretty much most dolls will pose much better once those procedures are done.

    19. Definately the face, you can always just get a new body if it poses THAT badly ^^;; I always look at the dolls face, cause that is what I will be photographing and looking at most of the time. On people that is the first thing I look at as well. You should get the doll you find the most beautiful!

    20. I choose the appearance of the body over everything. I'd rather have my DD than a less mature doll that poses better.

Choose what you like best so that you don't regret it. It doesn't matter what a bunch of people online tell you. ;)
