What matters more, a doll's appearance or posing abililties?

Aug 5, 2009

    1. For me, I go with appearance first. Bodies can be sueded, modified, even replaced to make a hybrid. But it's aaaaaaall about the face for me.

Ah, I also prefer my bodies (in boys anyway) to only have a hint of muscle. My characters don't exactly work out. ;)

    2. with me it's the apperence.. if i love the apperence the posing abilities don't matter as much, because i love her anyway and accept the things he/she can't do.. :)
and you'll get creative to try and pose it.. :P at least, i did..:)

    3. A bit of both, but for me matters more a doll's appearance then posing ability…

    4. I really hate the look of double joints.... they kill the realism of the doll for me. I love the DZ Yuu sculpt, but their bodies just don't sit well with me. Trying to find another body that matches the resin AND has more aesthetically pleasing joints has been a nightmare, and may prevent me from having my dream doll.

    5. the face is the main priority, though I try to avoid single jointed bodies.

    6. I say posing is most important, but if you don't like the face, then you could easily do a body swap! I think that's what makes hybrid convenient

    7. If possible, I choose both. Though my priority for getting a specific body is how well it poses (I'm such a sucker for experimenting with dollie poses and playing with double joints), I really don't want the feature to compromise the aesthetics of the mold.

    8. I care a lot more about appearance. When making a decision about a doll, I don't even think about whether or not it is engineered well. Posing is fun, but I don't buy a doll to pose her, so the appearance matters most to me.

    9. to me if i find the doll lovely and i love him a lot but dont like his body then,
if possible i will just buy his head then find another body that i like more.
Like dolls with no joint in its chest annoys the heck out of me but if i love the doll
then just go for the head (you could also find a cheaper body :D )

    10. I don't really care about posing abilitys, cause I don't take pictures of them almost ever. I just wrote stories of them so I just want them to look as in character as possible.

But when I make picture stories of them, it comes handy if posing ability is good. But I have to say that appearance is more matter to me than posing ability.

    11. I care ALOT more about the dolls appearance than it's posing abilities.
(I spend XXXX amount on a doll, so it better have a good appearance!)

    12. I'd go with the sculpt that you find most beautiful. I find with some wiring or sueding, and underneath clothing, you can still pretty much do any pose with any doll. ^^ Also, with this choice, you can always have the option to finding a more poseable body later on if you really don't like the poseability of the 1st. (But I think it'll be fine, once wired, etc)

I myself only buy dolls that are beautiful in the face to me, and the body is pretty inconsequential, apart from size. I think, unless you buy the one you feel was 'perfect' in face, you won't be 100% happy. The bodies are really secondary because it's the face that gives you the most satisfaction/happiness in a doll.

      Good luck on your decision!!!

    13. For me, head mold is the most important. For my most previous ones, I would "upgrade" their bodies.

If a company offers two or three versions of the bodies, I would go for the one that poses better.

I agree with others stated here - double joints do not always means it poses better. Some single joints are good poser. How a doll is strung also makes a different, some people have problem with their SD13 boy but ALL of my boys can stand like a rock for days (weeks)

    14. i would not buy a doll that could not bend it's arms, legs, etc, because then it is no different than any other doll, but i also would not buy a crazy awesome poser that i did not find attractive. i guess i just go with what i like, and i like posable beauties, so that's what i go for.

    15. For me...the appearance is more important than the posability.

    16. The prettiest face all the way for me! I would get inventive with the posing as long as it had a pretty face....and like others said you can always put the pretty face on a better body

    17. I am forever coming across posts where owners describe their dolls as posing like a dream and then there are others who are in love with the beautiful sculpt. I was wondering, given the choice, what would be more important to you? A doll that can pose in any way, perfect for photo stories or an ageless beauty? :aheartbea

    18. Both. Honestly, it's gotta be both for me. It cannot be aesthetically pleasing and lack decent posing, and just the same, it cannot be an ultimate poser, but not be pleasurable to view. My dream dolls are all ones composed of both a great sculpt and at least decent posing, sometimes better than that. Even with the dolls I intend to buy, I don't foresee it changing. It is possible to have the best of both worlds! It really is!

    19. I agree with Septunie - it's better to have the best of both, but if I HAD to choose, it would be probably the beauty of the sculpt...I'd rather have a beautiful doll which can do nothing but sit on the shelf and look pretty than a gorgeous poser which can do anything I want, but as for aesthetical view nothing special...:)

    20. For me it’s all about aesthetics/looks – if the body poses well, then that’s a plus,
but I definitely look for how appealing I find the sculpt, not so much for its posing
      abilities. XD
