1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What part of the doll customizing process do you DREAD?

Jun 1, 2021

    1. I remember that feeling. I found this tip on YouTube. Try getting a big sturdy jumpring, the kind they use for keychains, and using that on the s-hook when you need to pull. Seems weird, but it's a lot easier to get a grip on than the hook itself. As for pulling, I ended up half sitting on my doll to get the right amount of leverage lol. After that I asked for help holding him, but the keyring was a huge help either way.

    2. For me its definitely faceups, particularly the painted details. I feel proud when I'm done though, even if it ultimately doesn't look that great. My fear of faceups is probably why I don't practice enough to actually get good at them! I'm sure I would dread tattoos if actually did them but I'm too chicken.

    3. Finishing what I start—I have 4 project bodies, and more mods that need sanding/refining/fixing. Starting stuff is so fun, and having it done is fun. But getting between those points sucks

    4. Faceups and wigmaking.

Faceup because I suck at it and also I have a bit of concern about respiratory protection.

Wigmaking because I can never make the wigcap right, and glue end up spreading everywhere.

I dread it so much that I decided I would rather commission someone than do it myself. XD

    5. Brows for SURE. Until my most recent doll repaint (I've repainted her maybe 6 or 7 times if you include getting right to the end, realising something was wonky and having to start again from scratch. I've had her since 2016) I've done them flat with the justification 'well I have flat brows, they're a thing, it's just my style!'. However, when looking back over pictures of her I realised she looked melancholy or even sad in a lot of the shots and it was all down to the brows. She is the last of my characters to look that way, so I knew the faceup had to be redone for the 8th time.

It made me take a deep breath and plunge headlong into angled brows and she's never looked better. Still dread painting them though.

    6. Restringing. I HATE it, it tears up my hands haha

    7. Lashes.... :aeyepop: I hate to glue up the lashes... I Am ok with doing face up, I Am Absolute not a pro but It's a nice and relaxing thing. Lashes always try my patience, and I Am not fan of drawing brows too. I have to learn to do better work with those, but brows still less irritating, than lashes.

    8. I always dread prepping the head with MSC for a faceup. It takes hours, needs the right weather conditions-- and if I mess anything up, from the spraying to the faceup itself, I have to deep clean the doll and start ALL OVER AGAIN

    9. Dressing them, pattern creation and sewing are my weakest points in creating things, and especially with artist dolls so many cute dolls aren't part of the standard sizing options.

    10. All of it :shudder

    11. Sigh. I set up a customization area (dining room table, cuz we never use it...), only to realize that it's a completely unsuitable place, because I want to do some airbrush painting. So - everything needs to be broken down and moved to the new customization area.

Everything has been on hold for weeks because I'm dreading moving everything. All those unfinished projects glaring at me, telling me to just get off my duff and MOVE the stuff already.

      So instead, I'm here!

    12. Looking for shoes. Gosh is it a real pain. I was lucky to find a few good pairs when I first got into the hobby, but coming back, its really horrible. I think maybe I am just too picky? I don't know. I just want shoes that look good in their scale and not too big, if that makes any sense.

    13. Sanding and spraying MSC. I'm so worried about the health of my spouse and my cats - currently planning to move everything into a separate, well-ventilated room to help assuage my fears of affecting their health.

    14. Honestly for me Faceups and Restringing. Most of the time I do the faceups myself (even though I dread it to get the character how I imagine them to be.) Most of the time when my doll arrives its either strung way too tightly or loosely. And being an SD collector +70cm are absolutely annoying to restring.

    15. Shoes. If I buy 'em they are never the right size. If I make them im... bad at them.

    16. Face up! I have nerve damage so my hands are not steady. I would normally just send the heads out to an artist but the state of the world has made that a bit hard. I have dolls with blank faces and lately have only been buying any with an intact beautiful face up because the blank faces are depressing.

I’m admittedly not talented at anything in this hobby, I’m just a collector. I admire all of the cool things people do for their dolls!

I absolutely have no fear for restringing! My husband helps with that, though a long time ago all we had were a pencil and an old string from bracelet making so restringing a doll took us hours and our hands were bruised up. Good times!

    17. Faceups. I just never know what to do with them and my hands aren't the steadiest.

    18. faceups as well...and making wigs with yarn it takes so much effort.

    19. Spraying MSC for sure! Other parts of the faceup process are fun and interesting, but for some reason that step always makes me feel so drained orz

    20. Le sigh. I just did several face-ups in succession. I'm still new at it, so I figured repetition would help me learn.
I've discovered something new that I dread even more - wiping a face-up to fix it. :doh
