1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What size elastic do you thread your REALLY tiny Tinys?

Apr 23, 2021

    1. Not a really intensive question. I'm thinking about making my own doll(s) , and I realized going smaller might be in my best interest so I can use a clay mold (you know the ones that are like putty almost) for the resin and all that. That being said I uh...Would like to know what size elastics you string your BJD's with when they're this small.

If you also can tell me the size of the "wire" the hooks and anchors for the elastic are on your doll (just so i can have a general idea), that would also be great. :whee:

    2. Hey!
I make joints "big enough" to allow me to ream out a 1.5mm through-hole and then use 1mm elastics. The rest of the limb pieces have larger through-holes so they're a bit easier to thread. In order to get the elastic through the smallest pieces, I use a beading needle. Since it's stretchy, it can be pulled through the joints when under tension :) I sometimes have to enlist the help of my pliers to pull on the beading needle, because at some points there are up to three thicknesses of elastic trying to pass through that joint hole.

I picked 22 gauge wire for my "s-hooks" which for this size, and in order to have any sort of hope of holding the feet on tightly for example, look more like a really flattened, long C-shape. The success of the size of wire will depend both on the size of the through-hole channels you put in the lower leg and forearm pieces (if you want to anchor the wrists this way too), as well as the slot size you create in any of the ankle/wrist pieces. You might want to experiment with a few sizes of wire to find the tradeoff between fitting in your channels and withstanding some pulling without losing the wire shape. I've restrung my tiny doll a bajillion times to find the ideal stringing pattern and mix of hooks or just creating a channel with a hole that the elastic can run through in a loop. And I've broken a few wrist pieces :P .... so never fear a few breaks while you're working! Anything can be rebuilt even if it doesn't feel great.

One of the tricks here to get to success though, is creating balls on the ankles and wrists that allow for slots without totally losing integrity, while at the same time being small enough to look alright at the end of the limbs :) Art!!! haha.

My DMs are open if you wanna ask more specific questions too.

    3. Hey! Thank you so much for the detailed advice :XD:
Is it possible for you to send me a picture of the "C" s-hooks? I have a decent idea on what they could look like but I just want to make sure.
Thinking about it, they'd probably work better than the small pair of 2 hooks I made to start with (at the expense of my hands...no scratches, but it hurt to fight against the wire)

Picture of said Bastards I mean ,S-hooks (units in CM for size reference)

(also don't mind the discord link I hope this isn't hotlinking I took it the picture with my phone then uploaded the image to an image site, posted it to discord server that severs as a note taking server AND THEN screen-shot it and I still don't know if I did this right)

    4. Yeah, you bet - I drew it instead because my real wires are hard to see :)

So I'd squish that wire piece to basically overlap on itself in order to allow it to fit up into the channel. And doing that around the pin inside the ankle/wrist still allows for plenty of twist around the pin.

Edit: Also, if not obvious, the bottom part of the wire has to wrap down and under the pin.

    5. I thought they'd end up looking like this, kinda like a cut chain link. Do you use the same wire for the pins as the hooks, or do you use a separate kind?

    6. Currently, I'm actually using cut off paperclips :sweat:abambi:

I feel like they're pretty secure because the gauge is a little bigger that the wire I'm using for the hooks. Also.. just kinda hoping that I have a drill bit floating around that is as small as they are. I'll probably go out and find some wire of the same gauge eventually, but just haven't needed to haha.

    7. I've seen the paperclip method of things and I'm tempted to get a thing of metallic paperclips to sacrifice to the BJD gods. Thank you so much for the help and advice! It means a lot.
