1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What to do when you want two dolls equally but can only afford to buy one?

Sep 3, 2012

    1. Awww, I'm totally in this situation right now. Luckily they're both unlimitted dolls, so I'm saving up for one of them, I'll get one, then save up for the other. Normally though, I decide based on their family. For instance, will one of the dolls I really want complete a family I already have? If so, I would go with that one first.

However, in the situation that one is limited, like everyone else said: get the limited one first. If they're both limited, try layaway :)

    2. Buy the doll that won't be around a long and save up for the more common of the two

    3. Very tough and I wouldn't want to think too hard about it because then I would feel guilty about my pick. I would use a simple method to pick like drawing names or going in alphabetical order. Then I would start saving up for the second one.

    4. Like Johny Depp has been meme'd saying "If you love two people, choose the second one." Or something like that. I'm sure someone knows what I am talking about...especially if you have facebook.

I really want TWO dolls at the same time too, but I know which one I want first if it really comes down to it. lol!
I agree with a few posts above mine. If you can get the limited, get it!! It is SO hard/complicated for me to get limiteds...so I would just grab the limited and poo to the second doll. xD

      ...that sounded so mean...xD

    5. All the time. I have three that are readily available that are the same price that I want right now. I tend to go with what store is having a sale or event, or who what gender doll I just bought and get the opposite. If I have any opposite gender dolls that I want.

    6. Flip a coin? Every time I've been in a similar situation, no amount of thinking or trying to weigh the pros and cons of each option has helped me come to a decision. The longer I think about it, the more likely I am to choose something entirely different just to avoid the fuss, actually.

Don't know if that's true for everyone or just me, though.

    7. I was thinking of this also. 'If you fall in love with two people, pick the second one because if you loved the first one then you wouldn't have fallen for the second'. Or something like that.
I think people have the right idea with the whole 'buy the limited first' thing, because if you buy one and still love the other then there's still time to get it :3

    8. I will just buy one first and save up for the other. Unless both have layaways :)

    9. ask yourself first, which doll do u really like then buy it first. as for the 2nd doll, u can save money for it as of the moment and just buy it when u already have the budget =)

    10. I probably make this kind of thing a lo more complicated than it needs to be :p When I bought my first doll, there were two that I wanted, but since it was my first (and the idea of spending $500 was already freaking me out, forget about doubling that to get two dolls) I had to just choose one. I picked the girl because I felt more inspiration for what I could do with her character, for stuff I wanted to make for her, and the like. These days, I would still take those factors into consideration, because I bond best with dolls that I have something in mind for. But other factors I might think about include:

      - Is one of them limited? (get the limited one first)
      - Is one of them a doll in a popular size/set of measurements I don't have yet? (this is important for me because when I finally have some free time this summer, I want to try making some clothes to sell and I want to have as many dolls in or close to popular sizes/measurements as possible to make my life easier and to increase my potential customer base)
      - Am I being honest with myself about liking them both equally, or is there really one I'm thinking about more than the other? (if so, that's the one I want to get first)

    11. I usually go with the same method many people have suggested (limited editions before basics). In cases where I love multiple limited dolls, I sometimes try to split both across long layaways, but I also sometimes split one of the dolls. So for example, if I wanted two different LE dolls, I might put up a split thread for one, offering the body at a good deal to anyone willing to have it without the head. If the doll came with a limited outfit and I didn't want it, I would also split that off to make my head more affordable.

Of course, this is a bit easier if you mostly buy dolls that can share bodies (similar sizes, skintones, proportions, etc). But it would still generally be easier to buy a basic body later to complete your LE head, than find the LE head second hand for a reasonable price!

    12. Well if they were exactly equal, same price and same availability... flip a coin! Leave it up to fate!
