1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What was the first sculpt you could recognize?

Dec 29, 2013

    1. Dollstown Soph A... one of the first BJDs I fell in love with, and a very distinctive sculpt. I can't immediately name every head from Dollstown, but I can definitely always tell it's a Dollstown head.

I'm also great at recognizing Luts' SD-sized Dark Elf Soo and Lishe, because they were everywhere in 2007-2008, when I started getting into the hobby :)

I'm pretty good at identifying SD/MSD sculpts, and can usually tell what company a doll is from, even if I can't put a name to the head. I find that Circus Kane, Iplehouse, Doll Chateau, and the aforementioned Dollstown are the easiest for me to ID, as is Resinsoul, with their distinctive strong noses. However, I cannot tell Volks dolls apart to save my life--they pretty much all look the same to me, except the 65cm ones. I also get kind of confused with a lot of 28cm dolls and I really can't tell anthros apart, like Pipos, Dearmine, etc--probably because I don't collect them at all.

    2. There is one sculpt that I always recognize in pictures, and it's the first one I learned to recognize. It's the sculpt of my first doll, a Bobobie Apollo. I see pics of them everywhere, and I go "That's an Angelo (my Apollo is named Angelo)!" I could probably recognize a Bobobie Ophelia, but she is easy to confuse with a Bobobie Rachael, who is pretty much the same with just a slight smile. I also recognize Dollzone Foxes. I have one of those, and the sculpt is very distinct. I also recognize Fairyland PongPongs with those open mouth grins; they are also very distinctive. That's pretty much it. I'm very fond of Bobobie/Resinsoul (seeing as 3/5 of my dolls are from them), so other companies don't really get my attention as much. The PongPongs are everywhere and they're really cute, so that's why I know them.

    3. I think the first sculpt that I could recognize was the MNF Miyu. I wanted her soooo much that I spent many hours looking at her face ! :)

    4. Probably Volks F-01, Charlotte, and Liselotte were the first ones I could recognize.

    5. The first dolls I recognized immediately were the old CP Shiwoo and Chiwoo, since the original CP Delfs were so popular when I joined the hobby. I'm not the greatest at identifying sculpts usually though. I find it easier to identify the company, especially since faceups can play up features that the default photos hide.

    6. Soom Dia - can recognize her/him a mile away
DollClans Vezeto - coz of his nose
Dollshe sculpts - coz they stand out
Iplehouse EID men - easy to spot coz I love them
      Soom Hyperon...coz I have one
Soom ID and MG men...I just know they're Soom...but not which sculpt coz they all look alike

    7. I can recognize most CP Delfs like El, Shiwoo, Breakaway, etc. I'm also good at identifying Volks dolls as long as they aren't heavily modded. I usually have a hard time with newly released dolls tho since I don't keep up with new releases as much as I used to so I'm unfamiliar with a lot of them. :<

    8. For me, the first dolls I could recognize were DoD's Homme Ducan and Luts' Super Delf Mia... These were the two I most obsessed over and I scoured the internet for every picture I could find of the two so I found it easier to recognize them (as long as there isn't extreme modding done!) =)

    9. I'm not exactly sure which was the first BJD that I recognized simply from a photo, it was probably VOLKS Chii because she's so easy to recognize

I think I've gotten better over the years but I'm still not so great (I have that "that's a *insert BJD company/sculpt name here*?" moment all the time)

    10. Oh, I'm terrible at telling dolls apart, mostly because I just go looking for a very specific sort of thing when I'm doll shopping. (I usually have a character in mind for my hunt and if I don't see the features I want I just move on without a second glance.) Some SOOM dolls I can tell apart but usually only because I either want one or I'm a fan of a particular doll of that sculpt But this is also kinda restricted to the bigger dolls, SOOM mini gems and tiny gems all look really similar to me...

    11. When I first started out looking into BJDs I was absolutely terrible at recognizing sculpts! I felt super accomplished when one day I realized the doll that I was looking at in a picture was a MNF Chloe XD Now that I've been looking at pictures so much I recognize a lot of them, but it's funny to think about when I didn't :)

    12. Fairyland Pukifee Ante because that was the first doll I was interested in when I joined the hobby. I can easily identify minifee and littlefee now as that's what I own/am interested in, I'm not so good with the newer pukifee sculpts. I'm terrible at identifying anything outside of Fairyland - I can distinguish some Iplehouse, Doll Chateau and a few Luts dolls (mostly Delf) but that's it.

    13. Definitely MNF Chloe because she is so popular. Also I can now recognize pretty much any Bluefairy TF sculpt simply because I spent weeks agonizing over my choice when it came to buying my first doll. So many hours were spent staring at the BF website haha :sweat

    14. The first sculpts I remember being able to recognize are the Fairyland Clhole and the Soom Dia. And I think recognizing sculpts is coming pretty easy to me, and sometimes I go through pictures and play a guessing game with myself ^-^. I actually have a hard time recognizing sculpts I own especially Doll-Chateau Colin, unless he has the company faceup.

    15. The first sculpts I could recognize were Soom Amber and Heliot, and a Dollshe Saint, because those were my favorites. Now, I can identify quite a few different sculpts, especially SDs, and if not I can usually identify the company that makes the doll. Some of the older sculpts I have trouble recognizing, especially the companies that no longer exist. I kind of miss the days when every sculpt was new and exciting because I'd never seen it before!

    16. The first sculpt I could recognize instantly was Delf Soony, closely followed by DoD Shall. Now I can recognize most sculpts, and if not the sculpt, at least the company. Except a lot of the Volks ones- they have so many FCS molds i've never seen!

    17. I'm pretty terrible at telling a doll apart in general unless it is an animal doll or a smiling doll. (No offence meant to this hobby, of course, but it's really easy to pick out the Supia Hamins, Doll In Mind Misos, and Angel of Dream Hui Xiangs just because such few dolls smile in general.)

    18. Dollshe Saint was probably the first. I wanted one immediately too.

    19. Fairyland feeple 65 chloe and minifee chloe - one of the first dolls I laid eyes on.

    20. The first one I recognised would be Elfdoll Soah as she was my first resin BJD. I have seen several others and it is still one of the only ones I could recognise with any certainty
