1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What was the first sculpt you could recognize?

Dec 29, 2013

    1. That's easy!

It's was Volks SD Four Sisters. It was the only ABJD sculpt the time. The first "mini" was a Volks Ian. The first non-Volks sculpt, Unoss.

    2. Soom Dia, I think.

I remember that when I was new in BJDs (like, a whole two years ago), I had the greatest trouble recognising sculpts - not just because I was new, but because I found it hard to make abstraction of the face-up. In the meantime I have surprised myself by becoming quite good at recognising sculpts.

    3. Lately I've been pretty much obsessed with MNF Chloe and I can recognise her in a heartbeat... (Although she's not really that hard to spot, right?) I can also spot Bluefairies, but not the particular sculpts. I also think Ringdoll is easy to recognise.

    4. I think the more photos/images you see the more familiar you become with sculpts. When I got my first bjd there were at most 3 companies and it was much easier to identify a doll whereas now with 100+ companies it is a bit more difficult unless you are constantly being exposed to images. (Especially since many of the sculpts from even different companies have very similar faces.)

It would be just like someone able to determine whether or not a particular painting was by a master or his student-- constant exposure can make the difference. I personally am not as exposed so if someone mentions a particular sculpt I may or may not know what it looks like unless I have had constant exposure to that particular artist's work. So the more you immerse yourself in the images of dolls the better adept you will become at determining what the sculpt is.

    5. I think it was MNF Chloe, and maybe one of the Unoas. But that's it. I still have a little difficulty trying to recognize some sculpts, but Chloe is the easiest for me.

    6. The very first sculpts I could recognize were Iplehouse Soo-Ri and Elfdoll Red, because of some intensive decision-making going on in the background :). I also learned the DZ minis and the big boy Yuu, the Dollshe boys, and Souldoll minis like Harang early on, as well as Volks Yukinojo (although it has taken me YEARS to learn the girls!). I also knew the DoC minis and Luts (Shiwoo, El, Dark Elf Soo) pretty solidly.

There weren't all that many companies at the time, so it was fairly easy. Now? I'm lost half the time; take a year or so mostly off and the world goes splodey in your face! I don't even recognize half of the *companies,* much less the individual sculpts. Soooo much eye candy! :)

    7. I think the first doll I was able to recognize after seeing several times was Elfdoll Soah. Some dolls are easier to recognize and identify than others. I am not sure if this is because I see more photos of some of the more popular dolls or if its because they have a unique sculpt.

    8. I don't remember exactly, but I believe Sabik was the first one I could differentiate immediately, since I owned him. I recognize dolls as belonging to certain companies much better than I recognize the individual dolls themselves. Some companies I have trouble differentiating between what mold is what. I have trouble with a lot of Volks and Fairyland dolls, especially the girls. I lot of them just look the same to me! XD

    9. Migidoll Ryu. It was the first doll I really wanted, I could recognise him straight away. Nowadays I actually find it harder to recognise him because Migi now has a number of sculpts that look very similar. I sometimes get them mixed up, oops xD

    10. The Migidoll Ryu sculpt, as soooo many people have one and a lot of the people I watch on DA have one or had one.

    11. I find it really easy to identify pretty much any Fairyland sculpt by now, simply because that's the company that introduced me to the hobby and it's the one I'm most interested in buying from. The first sculpt I was able to recognize was the Minifee Chloe because I just fell in love with her. A girl online had just the most gorgeous one and it made me want her so badly (and yet I still have yet to get her >_>). I can also usually recognize the Bluefairy Olive and Migidoll's Jina and Cho.

    12. This is an interesting question! To be honest the first sculpt that I recognized was the Iplehouse Asa and the Fairyland Feeple65 Roke when I first joined the hobby but now I can recognize pretty much all the FL dolls along with most Bluefairy TF, BF and SF but not the PFs. And the longer I'm in this hobby I begin to recognize more of them.

    13. The first sculpt I recognized was a Fairyland Lishe. That was back when I was looking at only human dolls. Now I can recognize quite a few, but I still have trouble with everything Volks unless they are a Four Sister's sculpt or a Liselotte.

    14. Volks SD Nono, her eyes were my first love <3. After that I started recognizing Unoa Lusis pretty fast, and from then on I got pretty good because I spent hours and hours looking at pictures. It was fairly easy for a couple of years, because there weren't that many companies making them and molds came out less frequently, so you had plenty of time to look at pictures before a new mold came out. I find myself lost with sculpts now! There are so many new companies and new molds coming out, it is difficult to keep up with all of them.

    15. I can tell sculpts only on that I'm interested in, like all minifee from Fairyland.

    16. Volks F-28 was the first I could recognize and many more Volks followed quickly. It was easier to recognize sculpts back then, I think, 'cause there were only a few companies. Nowadays, I'm having much more trouble telling sculpts apart. The olders sculpts are easy for me, but all the new sculpts from new companies... pfff, no idea.

    17. The very first sculpts i could recognize were Luts El, Lishe and shiwoo, because those were the first bjd photos i found thanks to google, 7-8 years ago or so xD
So i looked at those a lot.

    18. Luts CP Delf Shiwoo.

I SO wanted the Shiwoo Elf as my first BJD. Never got him, but his was still the first sculpt I could spot in pictures.

After that I think it was a pretty close thing between Unoa Lusis and Narae (given that I resisted getting into Slim Mini's but now have both of these sculpts in the family I really should have seen it as a sign that I could spot time so easily in pictures)

    19. Any LTF or MNF, mainly the Minifee's. The reason behind this is becaues I spend alot of time looking at all scults for aloooooooooong time before actually buying one.

    20. I've been in the hobby officially since May 2013 when I bought my 1st SD16 Megu. I quickly caught on to recognizing Volks F-01 and Fairyland's Celine & Chloe (I just got Chloe in Jan 2014). Also Unoa Lusis because she's so different looking. Obviously the Cerise dolls however I do not understand them....what are they? I need to research them.
