1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What would your collection look like if you could have a re-do?

Jan 2, 2024

    1. I wouldn't have purchased my smallest doll. She's been a box for like 10 years. I've learned I really prefer the larger male dolls.

    2. I would have gotten myself ONLY two dolls - a boy and a girl. And only of the same size, which, to my best knowledge of the time when I started 11 years ago, was quite impossible/difficult. The body that I like has appeared on the market only a couple years ago.

I'd have made them more versatile in terms of make up so that they'd look good in/with any wig & eye colour.
I'd have kept the collection of clothes and shoes to a minimum...
I'd have kept the collection ofcraft supplies to a minimum too. Now i have lots of them and lots of pressure to do stuff and no time to do it.
I'd have named them slightly differently.

But it's more like... what would i do if I had to drastically downsize *now*. I honestly love my collection and don't have any major regrets. However, every purchase nowadays is super careful :D

    3. Would have gotten an Iplehouse Freezia when I had the chance :')

    4. I probably would not have bought my SOOM Humpty Dumpty. I actually do love that doll, but it's impossible to make clothing for and I just never got around to finishing its faceup. Excellent headwear display piece, though! Everything else would stay the same.

    5. I've been giving this thought and I've come to similar conclusions to many:
I'd save to buy the dolls I want instead of impulse buying
I'd probably dedicate more time to building coherent groups in the sizes I have
I'd invest in a proper camera and learn to build props and sets so I can do photography with the more coherent groups

    6. I did do a soft reset of my collection back in 2021. If I were going to have a complete do-over, I would:
-not buy YoSDs or MSD, as I've discovered I'm not big on the size in general
      -avoid FOMO impulse buying
-save my money for my "must have" wishlist

As my collection currently stands, I believe a do-over would end up very similar to what it is now as I'm quite pleased. I have several dolls that I'd dreamed of for years before buying. Those that aren't grails, I went back to continuously for months before pulling the trigger. I'm just annoyed that I had to go through the whole kerfuffle of buying/selling in order to get here!

    7. @Shamshir Hahaha! Soom Humpty Dumpty has been on my WTB since I started in this hobby and was the doll that probably got me into this hobby as I saw my friends and loved his :XD: I always always miss the preorders for one though :doh one day hopefully

I know for certain that if I started in the hobby over again I wouldn’t have bought a Dollshe first off and would probably have gone for an Impl or an Iple I think. I also realized I love 65-70cm range especially Soom Super Gem size rather than smaller 58-60cm dolls. I’d also not have bought so many floating heads because those have definitely been my vice… there’s so many things I would have done differently but I’m pretty happy with my collection as it stands currently :sweat

    8. I would have a smaller collection... but it would look about the same.

    9. If I could redo my collection, I would have skipped out on purchasing so many SD resins and stuck with vinyl for that scale. I also wish I could take back all the time and money I spent on larger company dolls and invest more in just a few small artists' sculpts. I would have a lot less clutter in my closet now if I did! I would love to downsize at this point, but it's difficult when I look at each doll and think about how much I'd miss them or how much of a pain they'd be to rehome these days.

    10. When I first started out I had gotten an MSD as my first. So I think for me if I could change one thing I'd get all SD dolls. My MSD are supposed to be teens but the height difference between them and the SD are just too off for me. I think that would be it on terms of what I would change. I'd still get the same sculpt for them but SD ver if they have it.

    11. Almost the same. I have very few doll regrets when it comes to BJDs. Love my collection then and now as my tastes haven't changed much - I still prefer the old school BJDs and buy almost exclusively secondhand - but I would've left out a couple curiosity buys.

    12. If I can re-do my collections, first of all, I will a lot less poorer (been buying BJD that I can afford, not the one that I really love but still like them). Second, buy as many as Old Fairyland CP sculpt dolls as my budget allows me. Third, then spoils them rotten with wardrobes and shoes and housed them in a nice furnished home..

    13. I don't think I would've gotten my first two BJDs. One is too small for me to really enjoy especially in his bulky fullset outfit, the other turned out to not be the right shell. That's pretty much it! I've found I largely prefer tiny and mini BJDs the most and I'm happy slowly working on my crew. :)

    14. I would have a smaller collection , no heads without body , no fantasy parts or fantasy dolls and I would never ever buy a real puki doll that seems to get lost in every house move and I have to make sure to pack it separately as I do with my baptism cross and rest of jewelry heirlooms so not very convenient. I also wouldn't have those EID guys or mega gem because they are too big and heavy. I would probably stick to 1/4-1/3 dolls even if I love the huge ones like spiritdoll pure/dolce . The tinies and 1/6 are a no because they are too small like fashion dolls or playmobil and I can't really excuse me the price tag and the huge resinites are so heavy that makes them a menace and a bane for my waist

    15. I miss the Ringdoll boys I had and my Saint that got stolen on the move up here. I would buy those back and my green Resinsoul Dai.

Other than that I'm pretty happy with what I've got these days. I've been very lucky in that I've managed to score a few dolls this year that turned out to be worth more than you'd suppose because most people looking at them apparently didn't realize what they were or what company made them.

I got a Domuya mini for like $100 and two SD sized Spiritdolls for less than $200. One of them had a head on it that I've been coveting like mad.

I just now picked up a Moonlight Wonder Kirin head with a nice faceup for pretty cheap and I'm swapping the one Spiritdoll head for that one at least until I can buy it a better body..

Honestly I can't complain. 3.5 years ago I was homeless, had NO BJDs and was living in a shelter convinced that my BJD doll owning days were forever behind me.

Today I'm still dealing with health issues and living on disability but I'm living in NYC, and I have a respectable little family of BJDs again.

The way I see it I'm pretty blessed to be a BJD doll owner at all.
