1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What's the cheapest you've sold/bought a doll for?

Dec 11, 2014

    1. The best deal I got was my Dollshe Saint for $325+$62 shipping from the Dollshe website. In Dec 2010, Dollshe had a half-off sale on their dolls due to the release of their new Pure Body (Experience DS18M Pure Body Event). I even got a free SA Saint faceplate with it!

    2. I don't know about that, he's pretty fantastic and seems to have a lot of fans. ;)

Adding a little addendum here, since some have listed raffle wins and the like; I do have a doll here that I won in a raffle early this year. I didn't think I'd win anything at all from the contest, but liked the charity the proceeds were going to, so I think I dropped about $10-$15 on entries, and about the same on upgraded shipping when I won, meaning I got a doll that, from the company, would be $270 plus shipping, for around $30 shipped.

    3. Wanted to add that my absolute 'cheapest' doll is my Elfdoll K-ss. His head was limited, but I was able to get his body for a tremendous discount, so complete, he cost me about 300 bucks. I'm not sure of the exact cost, because it was 7 years ago.

    4. I have paid less than $60 for heads. The least expensive doll I have purchased was a blue SD body only for a project I never completed. It was from Resin Soul and I think it was about $160 not including shipping. I purchased an off topic Grin cat for $250. All the rest have been at least $450 and up to a maximum of $1600 so far.

    5. I bought a Resinsoul Bei in gray skin and a Bobobie March in lilac skin for $60+shipping. They came with 3 outfits, both with faceups, a real mohair wig and a fiber wig that was too big but I used for my RS Mei. The BBB March had magnets in her headcap and came with these magnetic bunny ears. I don't use the ears but it also came with itty bitty magnets which I use to keep the mohair wig on. I've bought a BBB Isabella in normal skin for around 100+shipping new from the company for a comparison. The skin colors would have been $10 extra each...so yeah I almost felt like I stole them.

I Don't know if this counts, but I'm adding it anyway. I recieved an IMPL Teno and an IMPL Gia head free from IMPLdoll as a "sorry we f'd up" doll. So I ended up putting both up for sale. I listed a RS normal skin 68cm female body as my only trade option thinking it was a complete shot in the dark. Within a couple of months a woman messaged me about trading for that exact body. I worked it out and traded her the Teno, all his fantasy parts, my IMPL Aimee's cat parts and the Gia head. I paid around $12 to ship and insure them when I sent them to her. And that's pretty much all I had in that transaction. The dolls were free and I traded them for a $150-160 body...so I felt pretty good about it lol.

    6. I no longer have her, but I bought my MNF Juri08 +body second hand for $385 while others at the time were going for $800+. I felt kinda bad but apparently the seller didn't realise their worth.

    7. My cheapest doll was a Dollclans Vezeto in tan skin(only the head), 10$ Shipping included (It was a raffle and I won him XD) I traded him with a girl from here, I just bought the ticket to help (with the phillipines typhoon last year) and I'm happy because the girl who traded him with me was able to have one of her grails :) :dance

    8. I recently bought a 68cm male body from Miro Doll for $111+shipping and received it only 2 weeks after I ordered it! They were even kind enough to make it in Soom Chrom skintone at no extra charge (another customer had sent them a Chrom headcap at one point to match and they had some extra material). My poor Chrom head had been sitting in a box for 5 years so I'm really happy to finally have him whole!

    9. I got my Delf Lishe off eBay for only $250 because her neck had a terrible crack in it. I reinforced the inside with milliput and now you can't even tell unless you're looking for it in a photo, especially if she has a wig on. Apart from the neck crack she was in terrific shape, default faceup and all.

    10. I hate it when people buy to resell dolls-especially when the doll is a limited sculpt. To me, it feels like they're robbing someone else who really wants the sculpt. :pout:

    11. i dont think I know what a 'deal' in this hobby is. or if they even exist

    12. Ignoring the trades I have done, and Splits.
Bought- I would have to say $120 including shipping for an MSD Mei.

Sold- Was a Nano Freya Pink for $60 last year when they were promotional, not this year with their re-release.

    13. My cheapest doll was my Doll Love Hugh for $179; mind you, that's only $20 cheaper than he normally is. but hey, a deal is a deal!

    14. I bought a Custom House yo at a local doll market years ago for $45. His head was significantly lighter than his body (even though he was apparently new?) and the seller wasn't aware of that when she bought him. More recently, I got 4 dolls for $400. That included 2 SD girls (I can't remember their sculpts because I'm AWFUL at remembering them) and 2 MSD girls (one Slinky Neko doll and a Resin Soul Mei.) All of the dolls came with wigs, clothes, eyes and shoes and I know that the 2 SD girls are selling new for roughly $500. I was so happy and surprised at what and amazing deal that was and the seller was lovely.

    15. I have found that it is harder to sell on here than on ebay. I seem to seller items quicker on ebay. I have also gotten great deals on ebay. I recently bought a Dikadoll 1/4 AAAA for 139 with free shipping. Its hard to find a newer 1/4 body for that price.

I also got a 1/6 mystic kids Christina fullset auction for $90 The seller had really bad pictures and i guess it didnt attract any buyers. That was like over 50% savings.

I've gotten some good deals on the forum too but i've also spent a lot.
When i sell stuff i always price it on the cheaper side because i hate waiting for something to sell.

All in all i've lost money in the BJD hobby... but its been fun and creatively stimulating. I'm just wiser about what i spend on now.

    16. Oh, a while ago I traded some Monster High dolls for a Volks F-10 head. I thought that was a pretty good deal!

    17. When I left the hobby around 2009/2010, the market was much better. Most of my dolls fetched their asking price if not a little more (though my first doll I discounted, because I sold him to someone who had only gotten into the hobby because of him, so I knew he'd be well taken care of). I must admit I was surprised when I decided to come back and started browsing the marketplace for a head to practice faceups on. I bought a Delf Claus head for $75, and I found a senior delf body to try for him for $200, so I got a full doll for around $275 (Normal Claus is $490, and SDF boys are $540, so quite the deal). The seller of the body is even including clothes for him, so I feel like I got a steal.

It might suck for resellers, but I agree that maybe it will convince people to only buy dolls they love, rather than snatch up limiteds to resell later.

    18. I recently bought a Fairyland Feeple60 Moe Rin in tan that was in-stock at DDE. I bought her so long after the Moe body's original release that I wasn't expecting to find a free pair of heel feet and black resin heel shoes that were part of her original promotion. It made me feel like I got a nice deal, especially because of the mark up for tan resin. To top it off, it included a past event head that I sold for quite a lot of money. That together was probably the best deal I've ever had.
