1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What's the most popular doll? Why?

Dec 28, 2009

    1. It's amazing how many people get Antes as their Yo. It's almost like, for every single LTF that's not Ante, you see five Ante's afterword. As cute as the doll is, if you don't love her, it's definately overkill. :sweat

Other than that, I'd have to say the SOOM monthlies, and random dolls like DOD Ducan, BBB Sprite, Shiwoo in all his forms (I own one!), and lately their has been a sudden influx MNF Karsh.

Really, it feel like every company that's really made it has one or two particualr dolls that gets bought so many times more than all the others put together!

    2. Shiwoo and Chiwoo maybe? They're girly and weeaboo girls love them.

    3. It seems Pukis, Littlefee antes, and Sooms. I've actually been asking myself about this. I seem to always lean towards the dollies no one wants, so I tend to notice who everyone has. XD

    4. I hadn't even noticed El was more popular than Shiwoo. XD; I have a hard time identifying El, but Shiwoo is pretty distinctive. I see it EVERYWHERE. A lot of people who have a Shiwoo actually have more than one, so it seems like an incredibly popular sculpt.
Certain Sooms seem really popular too, but I think the fact that they're mostly limiteds keeps them from being INCREDIBLY popular.
Tinies.. I don't really pay much attention so I have nothing to say about popularity there. XD; Sorry tinies.

edit: oh, ffffffffffffff... I didn't realize I found this thread in a search. XD;; I hate when I necro threads, even though DoA doesn't seem to be one of the forums that mind it..

    5. S'kay, NK-chan I'm gonna bump it by posting too .__.'
As a few others have said; Sooooom. I'm seeing TONS of Soom in box openings, galleries, and well, everywhere. And then the obvious; El, Shiwoo, Chiwoo... Also, it does seem FL's tinies are getting super popular, doesn't it?

    6. Ha ha, I actually enjoy it when I find old threads that have come to light. It just means there is something "new" to look at. ^__^

I think I'll throw my vote in with the Sooms, especially the Monthly Dolls (if they can be lumped into one category). They seem pretty prevalent among the SD-sized dolls I see in the forums...or even the YoSD size. I think that their wave is peaking, however, due to all the changes going on with the company which seems to be moving in other directions.
I will also agree with the Puki vote. They do seem to be everywhere! Hehe.

    7. El, Shiwoo, Chiwoo, Ante, Pukis - especially Pong, Lishe, the School Heads and Four Sisters - has anyone mentioned ResinSoul Mei? There's a zillion of them.

    8. Lol xD

I happen to love DoD Ducan :P
Everyone has a different taste in things, I also see ppl buying dolls of which I think, why would you buy such a doll!

    9. But.. I do see a lot of ppl with DZ Hong ;o

    10. I have found Migidoll to have raisen in popularity as of late. Especially Miho. Everyone and their grandma wants one (me included, :sweat ). Usually a Migidoll owner have several, even of the same sculpt!

But yeah, Soom has to be the most popular company atm. Their dolls are everywhere xD

    11. I don't there are many of us with Hongs, we just pic spam them A LOT *is 100% guilty of it*.
As for popular sculpts i do see shiwoos and pukis alot and Soom's MDs are everywhere.

    12. I think the SOOM MDs have officially taken over the BJD community to be honest. Is ALL I see in the MP. The SOOM monthly dolls are beautiful and are completely out of my price range so its frustrating seeing all these dolls for sale :(

    13. As for the Chinese dolls, I think Bobobies/Resinsoul are the most popular due to the low price point and accessibility (all the major US dealers stock them). They're very popular as "starter" dolls. I see lots of them pictured in the box opening section; last year it looked like everyone had BBB Sprites and now everyone has RS Meis!

    14. This may not be relevant to the topic, but since most of these molds are super popular anyways, it pretty much is...
Today I was going through FairyLand and Luts and found that Soo, Lishe, Chiwoo, Shiwoo, and El, can be found in a huge variety of sizes; Pukifee, littlefee, Minifee, delf, even Chicline! I'm sure this is old news to a lot of you, but I just find that so crazy, in a good way!

Edit: also, Iplehouse seems to have a good crowd.

    15. I was browsing the gallery the other week, and I *SWEAR* (I'm not exaggerating) that every second post was a Kid Delf Bory :XD: I'm not sure if someone had searched and bumped all the Bory threads up or what but... yup... there sure are lots of Borys lol

    16. Popularity is hard to judge. And it is always changing.

If it comes to how many dolls are owned--then the database list is about the only way to try and judge that (so far). It doesn't mean "currently popular"--just what dolls are most owned. You will note that they are sculpts that are not limited and have been available for a long time. This makes sense. Also--the sculpts, like El, have been kept in production because people still keep buying them. So that means that enough people must like them, even today, to make it worth it to the company to keep making them. So--"popular" enough!!!

Now that there are more and more doll companies, making so many different dolls, it will be more difficult for a single doll to overcome the leads that Volks and Luts have, just because the market is so much bigger and more diverse, along with the number of dolls coming out so quickly. There's just a lot more competition now than there used to be.

If you judge "popular" by amount of posts within a set amount of time (such as, in the past month or so), then you'll get different dolls--that won't necessarily mean "most owned" or have any longevity--just what is being discussed at the time.

I happen to own both Luts/CP and Soom dolls... and Volks. My tastes seem to run toward the same way as a number of other people. Doesn't make any difference to me, either way. I don't think popularity is important other than it makes certain dolls more available to buyers.

    17. Woah, many come across my mind! Volks 4 sisters mold, Luts shiwoos/breakaways, DOD molds, SOOM fantasy dolls, pukis, Cherry Blossom Alice pigs, Latidolls, and etc....

oooo Iplehouse as well....love their molds! hehe :)

    18. i had to state first that this is a newbie talking and i have yet to own my first bjd. from what i have seen volks is number one top company everyone seems to have one.what brands are the popular is heh too many to count but i agree all that was said above.

    19. I know, I just found that out a little while ago too and I was like "..woah" XD
It's a cool idea. But does anyone know if the popularity of the original ones really translates to younger-faced ones? (I don't really look at many tinies so I don't know what's popular.)

Gothicshadow: Volks IS ultra popular. Since it's like the first BJD company, it's really iconic. But they're also sort of expensive so not as many people have one as you might think. (At least that's the impression I've gotten.)

    20. I may be a bit biased but i think the most popular dolls are Delf El, Delf Shiwoo, MNF Shiwoo, and DOD Ducan
