Whats the worst thing that happened during a doll photoshoot?

Nov 24, 2022

    1. What is the absolute worst thing to day that has gone wrong during one of your photshoots?
I'll go first, it was a nice lovely day at the beach, taking pictures of my mermaid, Naia. I just finished pictures and started to towel dry her off and dust off any sand, then HORROR! There was a black smudge all over her face! One of her eyelashes had fallen off at some point in the photoshoot, possibly during set up and when I had tried to dry her off, her eyeliner was smudging over her face. That eyeliner hadn't been sealed full when her faceup was done! Picture here: 20220804_181542

    2. My doll once got partially eaten (and the wig irrepairebly destroyed) by a dog while I was doing a photoshoot in the woods. Owner of the dog got mad at me while the dog was never kept on a leash.

    3. My girl faceplanted while I was trying to pose her and chipped her face-up barely 2 weeks after I got her back from the artist :atremblin

Now Iโ€™m saving money to have it redone :sigh

    4. A teeny chip to her lip paint. It truly is the tiniest of specks but it still upsets me. I do not even know how it happened, she didnโ€™t faceplant or anything.

    5. One of my boys fell forward and head-butted the camera, ended up chipping the sealant and a very small bit of the blushing on his cheek.

    6. @cakie99 Is Naia and Asleep Eidiolon or Xaga doll? I had the same issue with eyeliner on my Polar Night.

    7. My doll fell on her face during an outdoor photoshoot while I was talking to my boss who was out looking at the cherry blossoms as well :doh
So embarrassing but no physical damage was done

    8. I was taking a farewell photoshoot of a head that I was going to sell. The doll fell face down on the floor and got a considerable chip on his nose. :horror:Good lord there was a person that wanted that sculpt exactly and was capable of fixing chips so the head has a new home a lives happily now.

    9. This one could have ended a lot worse, but this is my story.
I took my MSD couple to the square in front of the university building in my town to take some pictures of them together. Got a couple good ones, I was really happy. I placed the dolls on a blanket to avoid them getting stained by mud or anything else when... this enormous bulldog pops out of nowhere between two bushes (in my country, it should always be on a leash, specially in a public space like this. I think I almost saw it in slow motion. I grabbed the dolls and got up just before it bit one of them. And the owner didn't apologize even when I confronted him about it! Fortunately, the dolls were fine and I went home as quickly as I could. It took me a while to being comfortable with outdoor photoshoots again.

    10. The one that nearly gave me a heart attack---my friend's 1/3 boy plummeted from a 4 foot rock wall onto gravel face first. Miraculously, he had no damage at all!

The worst was my Dollzone Mo falling when I trusted him to stand and denting his nose. This was about 14 years ago, and the first time any of my dolls suffered damage. I was inconsolable. Now.....if something happens, I just kind of shrug. Eh. New battle wound. Oh well.

    11. I haven't[ broken nor chipped anything, on my dolls so far (after nineteen years, seems like a miracle!). However, I am a clumsy old fart, at around seven or ten years of owning my one and only camera, I tripped and managed to hit my camera right off my desk. It landed on hard floor right on the lens and I had trouble taking photos since then, but it was still doing a decent job. Later, maybe three years after, I (accidentally) kicked the tripod with my camera still on there, and completely ruined the lens for good.

It probably doesn't sound like a huge deal, compared to doll damage, but I suck at taking photos. I believe that the tool is only as good as the artist and I am no photographer. I honestly rather spend the money for a new camera on OT toys. That is how much I suck. I wish I hadn't broken my camera, it really did take quite sharp, vivid photos, despite my lack of skill. I still try using it, but it is kind of a struggle now. DX

    12. She's an Asleep Eidiolon done mermaid, it completely shocked me when it happened, you think it would be something you won't forget to seal.

Oh no not the camera! I'm terribly clumsy, I think that might be part of the reason I still haven't got a camera. I'm always dropping my phone everywhere, I don't think I could trust myself with a decent camera.

That's horrible. Some people can be so inconsiderate with their dogs. They could have at least apologised. Awful!

    13. Yeah, I had the eyeliner come off on a wet cotton swab. Her eyelashes had fallen out so I was trying to remove the old glue residue and the eyeliner started to come off! I contacted them about it but I forget what their answer was. I also was trying to remove some dark marks on her head and it took off all the white tattoos they had painted on. I don't think my doll was properly sealed but I still like her - she has her eyelashes back in now and the white tattoo was so faint to begin with that I don't miss it.

    14. She's a lovely doll, I chose not to have the face tattoo so I can't say if the same would have happened, I'm very intimidated to fix her eyeliner at the moment, I'm hoping new eyelashes will just cover it. I'm terrible at small lines and don't have a spray sealant I can use of I have to. I really need to get her face fixed though, it probably won't end up being as bad as I think it will.

    15. I've had multiple incidents and they all involve me opting to not use a doll stand for a photo shoot. You'd think I'd learn! My Granado Chaka has a faceplate system. He took a nose dive while I was taking pictures of him and his face went skidding across the floor, scratching his company faceup. I've since repaired it but I was heartbroken at the time. The exact same thing happened to my Dollshe Saint (yet another faceplate system).

The dumbest idea I ever had was giving my vampire dolls tiny glasses of real wine for a photo shoot. My boy's legs gave out from under him and he fell spilling wine all over my custom made set, himself, and his outfit. Now the vampire's set looks like a bloodbath. Which seems appropriate, honestly!

    16. I wonder if you can clean up the place where it ran very gently and leave the rest of the eyeliner alone. Maybe you could use some kind of tape to create a seal to help protect what's left and use a cotton swab to gently clean off where it ran onto her nose?

    17. I'll have to try when I get some spare time, and feel brave enough to do it.

    18. That's fair! Being brave is like 80% of the battle!

I think another bad thing for me would be when my Skia yosd tipped over onto a rock during an outside photoshoot. I heard the clack of resin on rock and was so scared! Part of the blushing on his ear came off - they used a lot of sealant I think so feels like a chunk of resin is missing. Considering that his wig hides it, I honestly couldn't remember if that happened when I first got him (like he came that way) or if it happened on the rock. I haven't bothered to get it fixed because I like his current faceup a lot so I don't want to try to repair it.

    19. Same same. Outside shoot at a local park after days of rain and finally sunshine. No stand, high heels, particularly poofy net skirt, strong wind came up out of nowhere, and lift off! Even if she'd had a stand, that was a strong wind. Thank goodness she went flying off the little folding table and onto the soft muddy grass. Lots of tearfull checking to discover she was okay. (Grown woman having a meltdown over a dolly in the park.) The strangest thing was during the COVID shut down. There was no actual "go home or we'll arrest you" in our area, but the park wildlife was getting aggressive from the lack of food normally tossed around. The crows took turns dive bombing my doll on the picnic table, so I gave up outside shots.

    20. Oh my gosh, that sounds terrifying having crows dive at your doll like that! I'd be scared from ever taking them outside again!
