When is the price just too much?

Nov 23, 2010

    1. I actually spent 500-600 USD for a doll
It's not because I want it : it's just because I'm in Canada and the canadian dollars currency is very low
so when I ordered for 300/400 USD ; I paid really 500 to 600 USD
I think that 600 usd for a doll is a lot (because after I will have to buy eyes/wig..)
so that's why I downsized my purchases actually.

    2. $500 for an SD is my break point. After that, I can't justify the expense.

    3. Some dolls are not worth even $200, but I don't mind paying $1,500 for highly complex instance, if I love it to death. Perhaps, more than 1500 dollars for the doll of polyurethane is too expensive.

    4. I just dropped $1,200 on one of my grail dolls, a Volks Creamy Mami, and she was in nearly perfect condition in her original box with all her papers and outfit and everything; virtually brand new. If you average out the conversion fluctuation from yen to USD, that's what she pretty much would have cost if I bought her directly from Volks at the time of her release. I can't ever see myself spending more than that and I think $1,300 max is my solid financial cap for a single doll, and that's if it was a doll that was extremely hard to get and at the very top of my list. Before then my limit was around $700 in my mind, although that was partially influenced from how much money I knew I could put towards a doll, and before then it was a huge leap for me to spend $400 a doll with shipping and everything. Now I think $400 is amazingly cheap if it's a doll I like and I would be happy with that price (although I'm kinda picky and have the worst luck with falling in love with standard dolls). How I view a price tag has changed over time, but having an idea of when to cut myself off hasn't. Maybe in the future my cap will increase, but as far as I can tell, I can't ever see myself paying more than $2,000 for a doll. Looking at you, Lorina...

    5. I don't think I could stomach over $1000 for one doll :XD: I'm generally not interested in fullsets, so the only dolls I buy are blank, and 1k for a blank doll is too much for me. I think the most pricey doll on my wishlist is about $600 (tan Supia Lina :drool) and I spend enough on accessories and materials to probably make up the difference, lol.

    6. I think it depends on the size of the doll, the company and what else I'm getting. Briarleigh (my first and only doll) was about $350 CAD, but he's an SD, I've wanted him for years, he came with some cool accessories (free eyes, carrying case, faceup is inexpensive), and Resinsoul's customer service is phenomenal. I know that $350 isn't a lot for a lot of people in the hobby, but for me, it's just as much as I'm willing to spend for what I got. lol So, I don't think I'll be buying tinies for the same price in the future, for example, but I might for another SD. I think that $400 would be my limit, but even that would be considered a splurge.

    7. If you're talking just a doll, blank, no wig, eyes, or faceup, straight from second hand/company, personally I think I wouldn't do more than MAYBE 600-700? but if we're talking how much I've spent on a doll in general, as in the doll, his wigs, eyes, faceup, body blushing, multiple outfits, accessories, props for him, ect, well then, I think it's a lot more. I've already spent I think $800 plus, and he was only a $200 USD doll.

    8. I couldn't drop over $1000 on a doll. I mean, not initially at least. I usually buy them blank so I suppose after the clothes and accessories you could say I spent that much, but I believe a 4 figure price tag up front would make me 'nope' right out the door.

    9. Personal $400 to me is too much but that's because I don't have a well enough paying job xD if I had a job like my boyfriend perhaps I'd pay more but lucky for me not on my dolls fall just under that. Except DC Delia... Shea $399 nude... She's killing me slowly. Lol

    10. I'd say over $700 is too much for a basic doll without a faceup. It's hard to imagine spending over $1000 for a doll, it'd have to be fullset and a major grail for me to dish out that much money.

    11. When you can't afford to budget for it! It doesn't matter what the price tag says when you go and buy your doll you need to know it is a sensible and affordable cost to you!

    12. It depends on what you're getting for the money. I recently spent over $900 on a fullset that included wig, outfit, Oscar eyes, accessories, three different female bust pieces and one male chest piece, fantasy and human parts and faceup. Everything is gorgeous and I feel like I got a lot for my money. I couldn't imagine dropping that much on a basic, though.

    13. For me $900+ is too much to spend on any doll no matter how much I love it. I think $500 is the limit for me and my budget at the moment but once I get a job and a higher income I would be willing to spend up to $800 on a doll.

    14. Oops I accidentally double posted because my internet is acting up again. Does anyone know how to delete a post?

    15. While I don't want to put a specific price tag on, I also couldn't imagine spending more than $400 for a blank doll. At this point my heart would bleed too much to actually enjoy playing with it. Although I do admire those who are so into the hobby that they spend this much!

    16. I think I wouldn't go higher than 700$ ...
... but (there is this bad "BUT") :mwahaha if a doll realy chatchs me and it's a beauty... I think I will lose! *_*:kitty2

    17. It's too much when it goes over $1000 dollars in my local currency, because then I get hit with a $400 customs duty and that sucks. (as of this moment that would be anything over $700US)

    18. My limit has stayed pretty steady over the years at $1000, but then I've never seen a doll over that price which I absolutely had to have either.

    19. I don't think I could justify spending more than $400-$500 dollars on a doll. If I were to go over that, I probably wouldn't play with said doll at all.
