1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

When is the price just too much?

Nov 23, 2010

    1. I think there are two parts to this, first is somewhat objective, how much can someone comfortably spend on an nonessential item at a given time. Second is totally subjective, how much is that doll worth to someone. The two are not necessarily related. I can think a doll is totally worth $3000, but only have $300 to spend for fun, or vice versa.

      There are a lot of things that are outside of my budget, but that doesn't mean I don't think they are worth it. They are merely incompatible with my financial situation at the moment, lol.

    2. Okay I'll be truthfully... I won't pay expensive amounts of money for a doll... I could careless why a person thinks it should be priced so high.... I have found a company that makes sd dolls that are extremely detailed which they look beatiful but I just wouldn't spent that much for one doll...

      The most I'll spend for an sd is 700. And for smaller dolls, the price goes down. I have set limits for dolls... I don't think you should have to pay over price from what the company sells it for. ( I don't give too craps how much you paid for shipping... That was your choice not mine! It shouldn't be reflected in the price.)

    3. Honestly I prefer Sds, and they tend to be expensive. However, I stop looking past the 750 - 800 range. It would just be such a pain to buy anything else for a doll above my range. So, as much as a I love free-lance sculpters's work (or dollshe dolls) , They tend to break the bank.

      If I really fell in love with a doll above that though, I would save up and buy it. It would just take more time to customize the doll to my liking.

    4. If a dolls base price is $800+ then I'd have to move on and find something else and the fact that shipping is expensive makes my bank account cry!

    5. I have two price limits really, $500 for sculpts I want, but that changes to anything more than $1500 (like FL Sia, for example). Thats a huge leap, I know, but if its unique enough or something thats a special interest then I have to do it.

    6. I think everything over 1000$ is way too much for only one nude Doll ... ^_^ but I think it's ok to pay 700$ :) ...

    7. I think it's only too much if I can't comfortably afford it. I'd spend a bunch of money on a doll if I really wanted it, but I'd have to save up for it. I wouldn't even allow layaway (I'm not comfortable with it).

    8. I think if it's a basic doll without the face-up/eyes/wig/clothes it shouldn't be any more than $500-600
      But if I really loved a sculpt I think I would lower the bar for the price xD what I don't get is floating heads more than $300-400 without any extras. But that's my personal opinion :sweat

    9. It's all about love. A beautiful doll is like a piece of beautiful art. People pay thousands for beautiful artifacts, paintings, statues, antiquities, coins and stamps and so on.. Dolls are forever lasting, if taken care of, they will always be there for my eyes to admire. They don't decay, like other items, I also belive that they keep their collector value over the years, especially if it's a limited production.
      But despite all this, I think $1000 - 1200 for a full set, is my limit for a 60cm doll. If they come in bigger sizes, I would consider paying more.

    10. I think $1200 is about the most I'd spend on an SD+ sized doll (and it'd have to be complete, limited, and at least a partial fullset). My limit for MSDs is probably about $600, and $350 or so for tinies. I'm less interested in those sizes, so it be a harder sell.

    11. I don't like going over 500 euros. I did once, for a very special doll, but I feel like I won't do it again. I guess it's like my psychological limit :)

    12. I would have to say for me it's probably around the £400 mark (about $580 dollars) - I think I'd find it hard to justify going above an amount that's the equivalent of two months mortgage payments XD;
