1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

When It Comes To BJD's What Makes You Fussy?

Mar 5, 2015

    1. 1. The bodies perfectly fitting the head. I prefer having the body that is meant to go with the head, from the same company. But if not, I want them to fit perfectly with no modification.

      2. Poseability. They don't have to have a ton of range, but I don't like floppiness or jerky heads or obvious posing issues.

      3. WIGS. I need their wig to fit their head perfectly and to be right for my vision. I'm actually considering making my own lately...

    2. I seem to be the fussiest when it comes to picking out wigs. I can't seem to find one that I really like and it's so annoying. I feel that I may have to learn how to make a wig just so I can have one that I like which is ridiculous.

    3. I'm really fussy about the quality of the sculpting when I'm looking for a doll (which is to be expected, I guess). And for some reason shoes can really give me a hard time. I still have three dolls that don't own a single pair, despite owning them for years. Just haven't found The Ultimate Shoe for them, I guess.

    4. I tend to get fussy over my dols wigs if I can't get them to hang right or style exactly how I want it at the moment I will switch it to something else. And certain hand poses make me fussy to. I am currently looking for a pair of posable hands for my 70 cm.

    5. - Teeth. Very rarely do I like dolls with teeth, and ESPECIALLY not when you can tell the teeth apart individually... Urgh. It just sort of creeps me out, so I try not to look at them too close.

      - Noses. Not a fan of the bitty anime points on the 2D looking dolls, but I have to LOVE the nose.

Other than that... Well, I haven't owned enough to know my own prefs yet. :3

    6. The eyes. The eyes have to be in the right position. It looks odd if the eyes don't match, or if they have that dead fish stare.

    7. I'm fussy about wigs, finding the right measurements of clothes, and doing face ups.

    8. It's always the eye brows... Always!!

    9. I don't like it when there isn't enough sclera (the white part of an eye) showing. If the iris is too big on a more realistic looking doll I find it rather strange and too cartoonish. I also don't like seam lines. I don't mind them with my cheaper non articulated plastic dolls but with my resin BJD's it's a no-no. They have to be sanded down, to me they just cheapen the overall look of the doll. Obviously there are exceptions such as if its a tanned or fantasy coloured doll as sanding can ruin the pigmentation but with lighter cream/pink toned dolls its a must for me. I don't like those curly synethetic wigs you can buy either, I bought a multi-colured wig once made to order and the curls are sooo messy and the wig just feels unpleasant. I ended up cutting the curls off in the end as they were so annoying. I personally don't like dolls that have a fish pout on them and have discovered that dolls with "dreamy" half asleep eyes don't work for me either. They need to have wide open eyes.

    10. I'm extreme when it comes to shoes, especially if they're too bulky on small/fragile dolls. Shoes need to have a realistic look for me, otherwise we won't work out xD

Hands and feet, brows and lips!

    11. I think I am the most fussy over clothes. I really want the clothes on my dolls to fit them really well. I don't like putting stuff on them that makes them look frumpy unless that is the specific look I am going for.

    12. I'm very picky about wig styling/color/fit. I want it to be perfect for the character. Generally I just make it myself because I want the colors to be directly what I imagined.

I'm also pretty picky about eye color and size. Again, I want it to fit the character perfectly. I found an awesome ebay shop that sells glass eyes for $6 (and he usually runs a buy 4 get 1 free coupon), and I really like his color options.

I think i'm most picky about bottom eyelashes. I want big, long, beautiful, bold eyelashes when I do a faceup XD

    13. Weirdly enough, I'm super picky about doll boobs. I have seen so many fun fantasy sculpts in doll window shopping but then I immediately get annoyed at the permanently pushed up super rounded chests :doh

    14. Wigs wigs wigs! I have so much trouble getting the right wig for a doll. It's frustrating, because you pay a lot for them and then when you get them, they look nothing like in the photos. I have a box full of wigs that I can't use, and it makes me mad that I could have used that money for clothes or something else. And they don't sell very fast either. I just finally sold a wig that had been in the marketplace for 8 months.

When choosing a doll to purchase I am most fussy about their sculpt. I only like certain types of faces, and they are not the big-eyed style that seems to be most popular. The sculpted shape of the eyes are most important to me.

I'm also fussy about the eyes themselves. I don't like small pupils. To me it makes the dolls look like they are on crack or something. I'm anxiously awaiting an order of eyes for my newest doll, Apollo. I ordered several pair so I could get exactly the right ones. The random eyes he came with have tiny pupils. It makes him look demented. :ablink:

    15. Eye gaps! They drive me crazy. Oh, and dolls that have way-too-big eyes that swallow up the whole socket. I get that a lot of people like the doe-eyed look, but when I can't see any white at all it freaks me out.

    16. I know it's weird but I am really fussy over heel legs. The feet can't be too thin and the sculpt have to have a degree of realistic to it, such as the ankle bone. Some example and the ultimate heel leg I love is SDGr/SD16 heel leg. I also couldn't stand when someone kept posting their blank dolls and not getting them a face-up. I mean it's fine in box opening posts and maybe a few days after the doll just arrived, since it's normal to be excited and wanting to spam everyone with the news. But blank dolls for months and years? I just can't XD.
