It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. where do all the old dolls go?

Jul 28, 2011

    1. Do you own any sculpts that are over five years old and not sold anymore?

      yes, one. volks old f-12

Do you still photograph them and put them on DOA?

      yes i do!

Have you recently bought an older sculpt second hand?

well, my volks old f-12 i searched for for about a year, and bought second-hand about 2 years ago.

What state are these dolls in now?

      she is yellowed but beautiful!

Do you own old doll sculpts and dont put them on the forum, why?

nope - i like her the same as my newer dolls, and post photos of her here. ^_^ people don't comment much on any of my photos...it may be the undesirable dolls, but its probably my bad photographs. but that doesn't stop me posting for some reason. ^^

    2. Do you own any sculpts that are over five years old and not sold anymore?
      Yes, a Happydoll Arthur

Do you still photograph them and put them on DOA?
      No.

Have you recently bought an older sculpt second hand?
Nope although one day I hope to buy a certain Volks Elf Shinsia!

What state are these dolls in now?
I bought my Arthur second hand a long time ago. He was pretty damaged and remains that way. His resin has yellowed but I don't find it unpleasant.

Do you own old doll sculpts and dont put them on the forum, why?
I photograph my dolls in general very rarely because non of them are finished yet and I have more fun working on them them setting them up for pictures. Arthur is no exception - except unlike my current workbench dolls, I keep all of his parts in a pillowed box away from day light to help slow down further yellowing.

    3. I'd be happy to open an "old dolls home" -- HeeHee ...I'm a fairly new collector. Next month will be the one year anniversary for the arrival of my first doll. So, they are all new to me. I don't care how old they are. If age has any effect, I have special love for the older ones. And then again, another kind of love for the ones I get straight off the assembly line. Maybe this is ignorance on my part? The 2 dolls I feel most attached to are probably 2 of the oldest. A Binli and a Serendipity. Plus I have some of the older Volks and I feel special respect and love for them.

**Do you own any sculpts that are over five years old and not sold anymore? YES, too many to list.

**Do you still photograph them and put them on DOA? I've had camera problems since my first doll purchase, so no photos yet. :(

**What state are these dolls in now? All very nice. My Supia Rosy is probably the most yellowed, as she is French Resin. She is still beautiful.

**Do you own old doll sculpts and dont put them on the forum, why? I'm just enduring my camera problems and can't WAIT to post all of them.

    4. Do you own any sculpts that are over five years old and not sold anymore?
Yes, all of my Delf Crew are not sold anymore, and I have a handful over five. My oldest will be 7 this year. My Volks dolls are all old, but I forget what year my Maki T and Olivia was released. (Same year, same Dolpa.) My Ken is like 2004 or early 2005.

Do you still photograph them and put them on DOA?
No. No one comments anyway, so why bother?

Have you recently bought an older sculpt second hand?
Yes and no. I bought a friend's whole collection, 3 dolls, and all are old CP/Luts dolls. One she owned is a Kid Delf Bomi, who is not even on Luts' site anymore. The other two are a vampire Shiwoo and an El. I say no cause once she moves and can find a job, she can purchase them back when she can. Otherwise, they're mine for now.

What state are these dolls in now?
Mine are in good shape. Maybe yellowing some, but I don't care. Hers, well, her El needs a new body, the Obitsu one is driving me nuts. The Shiwoo needs a new face, as we both want to update it, and her Bomi needs a face period. Maybe even a cleaning for the resin bodied ones.

Do you own old doll sculpts and dont put them on the forum, why?
It's a waste of time and energy. Now in the threads discussing them, yes, they'll have pictures taken. If I have time and it's nice enough out! Outwise, most people do not care for them. They're mine, they're loved, that's all that matters. But I SOOOOO wanna buy all the Delfs out there for sale.

    5. Do you own any sculpts that are over five years old and not sold anymore?
      Many.

Do you still photograph them and put them on DOA?
No. I don't have much time for photography these days.

Have you recently bought an older sculpt second hand?
No, but I would if the right one came around. Still looking for Hypermaniac Sirang, for instance.

What state are these dolls in now?
I think all dolls 'mellow' with time. Few of mine are what I would call 'screamingly yellow' except original Supiadolls Roda, early french resin, which yellowed like mad. Original Shiro (early pureskin, pre-stabilizer) has also yellowed a fair amount. 2003 Rui has yellowed, but if Gye-do (2005?) has yellowed at all, I can't tell. Many of my kids could benefit from a bit of a scrub, but most are in surprisingly good shape.

Do you own old doll sculpts and dont put them on the forum, why?
I don't put any of my dolls old or new on the forum generally. Just no time to really make nice photos and so many people make such beautiful pictures I don't really feel like putting up essentially snapshots.

    6. Do you own any sculpts that are over five years old and not sold anymore?
I have a few, and I have some sculpts that are still around but my one is well over 5 years old and they're just not popular anymore.

Do you still photograph them and put them on DOA?
      Yes

Have you recently bought an older sculpt second hand?

No, not for a couple of years. I'm still searching for an unmodded NS juri 05 (when that matches up to when I have money! XD).

What state are these dolls in now?
They have yellowed but not in an ugly way. Only one has yellowed noticeably unevenly. It can be easily covered with clothes though. I also have a Dolkot Kiss/Volks SD13 oldskin hybrid which was an almost perfect match when I got her (third hand), but over time they have yellowed to different colours. I just got her faceup blushed to match the body, and now know to not fuss over perfect hybrid matches!

Do you own old doll sculpts and dont put them on the forum, why?
No, I love sharing lesser seen doll sculpts, and finding fellow fans.

    7. Do you own any sculpts that are over 5 years old and not sold any more?
Yes. All my dolls except ResinSoul Long are not available on the current market first hand. Most of my dolls are Delfs. I have a Mecha Angel Elf also which is not sold first hand any more.

What state are these dolls now?

At worst slightly yellow even colour. My Shiwoo Dreaming Vampire has had a nose and ear accident which was fixed and modded. I still take them to meets and they get photoed there. I don't own a camera currently. So I often do not post pictures here.

Have you recently bought an older sculpt second hand?

No, but if I found them available I would. I need a mature girl NS CP body and if they don't resell them I will have no choice. I bought my ResinSoul second hand at a convention. I am sure if I have the money and there is a type I want I would get it.

    8. I'm sorry, call me old, but the idea that anything only 5 or 6 years old & costs as much as these dolls do, is 'old' makes me laugh.
I have 6 2nd hand dolls - I'm not sure if any are really old - I have a Dollzone Mo & Volks Kanata which I'm sure are at least 2 years old, & a AR Dana doll which may be older (I could check but really - I have CLOTHES that are 20 years old...)
I would NEVER NEVER buy these dolls if I thought they'd only keep my interest less than 5 years!
As for photographing them, I bought all my dolls to fit characters for photo stories which I will publish, both here & on a blog (at some point). I already follow photostories w/some old sculpts featured - who CARES that they are 2 or 5 years old? Really? Why?
I mean to have & photograph these dolls for the next 20 years or more, as they yellow HA.
I understand about the improved bodies, BTW.

    9. I actually do have two sculpt that are discontinued/not popular. My AR Ami girl and my CP Elf Nara hybrid. I bought Nara second hand off the marketplace in 2007; she has yellowed, but I still love. I purchased Ami through DDE when they still were dealers for Angel Region. I don't photograph my dolls as much as I would like.

    10. Do you own any sculpts that are over five years old and not sold anymore?

None of my Delf crew are available anymore, and two of them will turn five this year. The third is about six, if I remember right. (Bought him secondhand, couldn't quite remember exactly when he was made.) I have a fourth that will be discontinued sometime soon, but he's only four.

Do you still photograph them and put them on DOA?

On those rare occasions I post photos, yes.

Have you recently bought an older sculpt second hand?

I've got my first doll purchase in four years on layaway from the company right now, so no.

What state are these dolls in now?

They're all still in very good shape. I'm positive my two newer Delfs have yellowed somewhat, but it's really not much (even on the BW one, which impresses me to no end, but then I store them in the dark and take them out but rarely). My Yder has a lovely beauty green tinge to him. Call me nuts, but I love that effect. We just kind of ran with it instead of trying to fight it. No damage, though; I take very good care of my boys.

Do you own old doll sculpts and dont put them on the forum, why?

I just don't post pictures much. It's what happens when you've got a fulltime job, a kid, and a really crappy camera.

    11. Do you own any sculpts that are over five years old and not sold anymore?

Just one: the original resin version of Unoa Fluorite! Several of my dolls are over five years old, but they are all still available from the company that makes them.

Do you still photograph them and put them on DOA?

Sadly, I am not much of a dolly photographer. The only photos I've ever posted have been for picture requests and one time after a meetup. So the age of the sculpt has had no bearing on whether I was posting pictures or not.

If I ever took something of my older sculpts that I felt was worthy of sharing, I would definitely do so. I rarely take pictures though. Some part of my dolls is always "not ready yet." One example is I'm planning to make a fairy house for my tiny Elfdolls, but haven't started it. I have a tendency to spend more time making grand plans than actually executing them.

Have you recently bought an older sculpt second hand?

Yes! I have wanted a Fluorite since I got into BJDs in 2005, and I finally purchased her from the MP in 2011. She definitely became harder to find as the years went by, so when I saw one up in a random search, I jumped on buying her. As Amy Angel pointed out, the reason you don't see older sculpts on the MP a lot is because over time the dolls end up with someone who is never going to sell them.

I also think the several other factors have had an effect on resales: the waning U.S. economy, more companies overall, faster turn around times, the availability of layaway, etc. There used to be a lot of people who had a constant revolving door of dolls; always selling off an older one to fund a new one. I think that has slowed quite a bit, as (in most cases) you can no longer sell a doll for exactly what you paid for it, so selling almost always entails a loss. If the sculpt is very old, has an older body design, etc. then the price someone is willing to pay may have dropped below what the owner needs/wants to get for it. So they just keep it instead. I shake my head whenever I see someone trying to sell their four year old, slightly yellowed, has a chipped finger doll for MORE than you can buy a new one direct from the company.

What state are these dolls in now?

I only received Fluorite recently, so it's hard to say how she compares to what she looked like originally. She is definitely more yellow than my other dolls, but I think that is partially the tone of the resin that was used to make her. She needs some other work because her legs are splitting apart a little (a common problem) and her elastic is too loose. She still has her original Gentaro Araki faceup though. All of my other dolls were purchased brand new by me, and have been well taken care of. ^_^

    12. Do you own any sculpts that are over five years old and not sold anymore?
Yes, I have a number of older dolls. I began collecting BJDs in 2006, so I have a few that are turning six next month.

Do you still photograph them and put them on DOA?
I don't take photographs that often anymore. Too busy with RL. But, reading through this thread has certainly inspired me to take some photos of my older dolls. I love seeing photos of the older sculpts! Im one of those people who is very nostalgic about seeing other member's older dolls; the dolls that drew me into collecting BJDs in the first place.

Have you recently bought an older sculpt second hand?
Yes, I bought a discontinued DZ Yume, recently. That's a sculpt originally from 2006, I think. I still love the older sculpts, and if I see one I like, I will buy it. As a matter of fact, I wanted to buy one of the older Iple House YID boys before they got discontinued, but couldn't quite swing the purchase.

What state are these dolls in now?
My older dolls are in great shape! I love them and take care of them. They all have their original face-ups and I can barely notice any yellowing. But, I don't mind "yellowing" on a doll. I have a BW-green Chiwoo and I love his color!

Do you own old doll sculpts and dont put them on the forum, why?
Im not a very good photographer, so I don't post alot of pictures of my dolls, old or new. But, like I said earlier, I've been inspired by this thread. Time to drag a couple of the old girls in front of the camera for fun!

EDIT: I got so inspired by this thread that I did a photoshoot with my three oldest girls, my 2006 Elfdoll Soah and CP/Luts Lishe, and my 2007 Soom Gena.

    13. The topic title gives me visions of rows of wrinkled dolls nodding in their wheelchairs in a geriatric home. I love to buy older sculpts second hand. Mine are mostly in very good conditon. One is mellowed with a few scars, just like a real person. She is still lovely. I share them in photos to display new fashions, props, or scenery. They are lovely, classic sculpts even if they are not the latest fad.

    14. Do you own any sculpts that are over five years old and not sold anymore?

I have 9 dolls that are from 2003-2004 period:

-Custom House Choa (still being sold, but the body is redesigned)
-Custom House Petite Ai Gabriel (still being sold, but the body is redesigned)
-Delf Lishe (the face sculpt has been slightly altered)
-Delf El (his head is now a bit smaller than when he was just released)
-Bluefairy Pocket Fairy Yoko, 1st. ed. (her head sculpt has been redesigned; she's my travel girl)
-Angel Region Dana Sailor Girl (LE that has long sold out)
-Angel Region Dana (still sold, body has been redesigned)
      -Delf Angel Elf Soo
      -Delf Dark Elf Soo

These girls are here to stay.

Do you still photograph them and put them on DOA?
I photograph them plenty, but I rarely put them up on DoA. The reality is that older dolls are simply not that interesting to the majority of hobbyists on this forum. When I post my older girls from the list above, the thread may get one or two replies, but that's about it. It gets lost in the massive Gallery sub-forum, never to be seen again. There are a handful of people who still find these dolls interesting, so these days, if I do post their pictures, it's in the specific chat threads related to the sculpts. Old dolls tend to get overlooked in favor of new and shiny.

Have you recently bought an older sculpt second hand?
I don't shop on the secondary market, so no. There's one particular doll that I may consider buying secondhand and she is an older, discontinued sculpt.

What state are these dolls in now?
They are perfect. Actually, aside from natural yellowing that happened over the past 8 years, they look exactly as I received them from the company. Even their face-ups are intact with no chips or other damage. I am currently in the process of having all of their face-ups redone (with exception of LE Dana, since she has a limited face-up I love, and Choa, who was painted by an artist who no longer accepts BJD commissions), since I'd like to give them fresh new looks. My girls from 2003-2004 are irreplaceable to me and will never be sold, even if I leave the hobby (which is very unlikely, since I am still not tired of it after all these years :D).

Do you own old doll sculpts and dont put them on the forum, why?
Most for the reasons I outlined above. I don't think I ever showed my Danas or Gabriel on DoA. Ever. When I just received them, I had to take a break from BJD social scene due to being busy with college and, after, internship. When I started actively posting again, I realized that these girls are no longer interesting and I don't bother with showing them here. I do post pictures of Choa and the Delfs once in a while, since there's still a mild interest in them, but I do so in their respective threads for the most part. Otherwise, I share my pictures on Flickr and Flickr Groups.

    15. Do you own any sculpts that are over five years old and not sold anymore?

Yup. Delf Moon, Moon-SS and Shine from '07.

Do you still photograph them and put them on DOA?

The Moons, yes. The Shine gets photographed more rarely. They end up on the Delf discussion and photo threads when I post them, but it's not as often as I used to. Mostly I stick to LJ.

Have you recently bought an older sculpt second hand?

Nope. Many of my dolls have been updated to newer sculpts. They have to match to some extent with the old ones, but the range of sizes and sculpts available now that just didn't exist when I started collecting lured me away from some of the "classics" I thought I'd never reshell.

What state are these dolls in now?

All three of them have been repainted, restrung, and resueded since I received them. The Moon SS is on an updated T3 body, so he moves a little better than he used to. I'd say they look pretty darn good, though the Shine is flat out beauty green.

Do you own old doll sculpts and dont put them on the forum, why?

If I don't post them for a while it's just because I'm too lazy to CC photos from my LJ. ;D

    16. Do you own any sculpts that are over five years old and not sold anymore?

I do. My Dollshe Hound is 6 years old (though I've only had him for 5), and unfortunately he isn't sold anymore. But he was quite a popular sculpt, so I guess the mold name is still recognized...unless someone is really new to the hobby XD

Do you still photograph them and put them on DOA?

Definitely! I think I actually photograph him the most out of all my dolls.

Have you recently bought an older sculpt second hand?

Well, not a discontinued one, but I guess Customhouse Hyun has been around for a while. I could have bought him from the company though, except I didn't want to deal with them. The head was cast pretty recently though, so it's not a real "old doll". Just an older mold^^

What state are these dolls in now?

My Hound is in a very good shape. He is yellowed a bit - mostly on his hands, even though I keep him in my wardrobe all the time (except for dollmeets and photoshoots...). His default faceup faded away, so he's been given a new faceup 3 years ago. That one holds up really well so far^^ He's been restrung a few times, and I removed the armature his previous owner put in him - I hot-glue sueded him instead, and he's posing better than ever!

Do you own old doll sculpts and don't put them on the forum, why?

Nope. My only limit is that I don't have too much time for photography anymore. But when I manage to make a photoshoot, I spam my boy everywhere

    17. Do you own any sculpts that are over five years old and not sold anymore?
Yes! I have a DiM Sergei. I think the sculpt just recently turned 5, I honestly don't remember the original production run but I got mine in May 2007!

Do you still photograph them and put them on DOA?
Yes, of course! Not overly often, but I don't post photos very often anyways.

Have you recently bought an older sculpt second hand?
No, though I think Kill_U SP is sort of old and I bought one last year!

What state are these dolls in now?
My Sergei is yellowed and 3 of his fingers had broken off from an accident but besides that he's fine. He still has his default face-up.

As for the Kill_U SP, he just recently got a body. I'm hoping to face-up him soon~

Do you own old doll sculpts and don't put them on the forum, why?
I haven't posted my Kill_U SP because until recently he didn't have a body, and now he doesn't have a wig or eyes. T^T

    18. Love reading this thread, but it makes me terribly sad to see that the primary reason these "old" dolls aren't posted is because of lack of response to posts. :( It's true that the old face-ups on Volks dolls don't really measure up now that there are generally higher standards, but any doll can look great in the right photo.

Do you own any sculpts that are over five years old and not sold anymore?
      Delf Dreaming Shiwoo (2005)
      GomiDoll Igon (2005)
      Psyche X (2006)
      CH Unique Ai Choa (2006)
      Volks MSD Hewitt v2 (2006)
      MsDoll Drayton v1 (2007)
      Feeple Ashley (2007)

Do you still photograph them and put them on DOA?
I'm too busy to photograph my dolls very much anymore, but I always plan to.... I know there are still people who like to see them, like JennyNemesis said. :)

Have you recently bought an older sculpt second hand?
I'm actually hoping to win an auction for an old 2005 Volks limited this week. :)

What state are these dolls in now?

Some of the white ones have mellowed a bit, but they are otherwise unchanged. I can't think why they'd be in a poorer state than when I got them. :?

Do you own old doll sculpts and don't put them on the forum, why?
Other than being too busy, I have no reason. I try to make an effort to take a few photos when a doll arrives or I finish a face-up purely for the sake of documenting it, but then I procrastinate.

    19. Holy crap my oldest (not first though) doll is now around 8 years old :O and still my absolute favorite doll <3

    20. This is very interesting! As a new collector, I can't even imagine what these older sculpts look like. Maybe there should be a thread or gallery specifically to showcase out of print sculpts?
