Where do you keep your BJDs' boxes?

Feb 10, 2011

    1. My dolls are from Fairyland, so they come in one of those "foam coffins"
I keep them and the foam in them xD
I acually use the boxes as the dolls beds, i put sheets on top of them and everything :D

    2. I Don't Have A Doll, Yet But When I Do I Will Probably Keep The Box And All The Contents. (Except The Packing Material)

    3. I only have one girl right now, but when she came in I did keep her box and her pillows. I did not keep all of the other things, I currently have four on the way though, I do not know yet what I will end up keeping. For sure I keep the boxes though.

    4. I keep everything including the gifts. Ie acrylic eyes. It's habit just like my other stuff if I ever plan to resell. But am not selling my bjd babies, lol.

    5. I've noticed in other hobbies, such as collecting action figures, there's a huge deal made with keeping the original packaging - some figures even drop significantly in price without it. However, while perusing the marketplace, I noticed a lot of listings don't include the doll's original box. Also, general discussion seems to indicate that boxes are more of a clutter-hazard than a requirement to maintain the doll's overall value. For such an expensive luxury hobby, why isn't there more pressure to keep a doll's original box?

      Edit;
I feel the need to clarify - I didn't mean the shipping box, I meant the inner box from the company. Sorry for being vague!

    6. I'm not sure why people don't keep the boxes, but I do! Probably because I only have 7 dolls, 5 of which are small dolls, so their boxes are also small. I would assume that people with more dolls and mostly SD/MSD, the boxes would pile up too high and run out of space! That, and sometimes people think they'll keep a doll forever, so the box would never be needed?.. But that's just my opinion~

    7. Space probably. I keep the doll's box but not often the outer packing box.

    8. I like to keep the inner boxes if I can because they can come in handy for transport, same with pillows. But I have limited space, and sometimes unused boxes get damaged in storage. This hobby isn't one with a Never Removed From Box sort of mentality. Considering that most dolls come blank, bald, and naked they have to be taken out and messed with. Even if the owner stores them in their original boxes, it's really not something that is inherently tied to their value. I think it's really a difference in what the dolls are made for -- these are made to be customized by their owners vs kept in completely original condition.

    9. Usually action figures are quite small compared to an SD sized doll. The packaging is normally designed just for that figure or line of figures as well.

The box that comes with BJD's is usually just a standard company box. I think that the certificate and the doll are the real important things. I used to keep all my boxes. I have a studio and half the room was full of boxes. I just couldn't use the room. I started to gradually let go of boxes and my room became usable again. I kept some boxes that I use for storing things like wigs, shoes, clothing etc. I've put a few big boxes under the bed in case I want to sell a couple of dolls. The boxes themselves aren't that valuable - they are bought in bulk by the doll company and alot of them get damaged in transit as well. I do however keep the carry bags that some send with their dolls as they are just plain useful.

If you've only got a few dolls or small ones then keep the boxes. Otherwise, life's too short to hoard boxes.

    10. Yep, what Taco said :) Some dolls (like Sugarble or Fairyland tinies) come in a really cool box, so most people keep those. I have a lot of Impldoll and Resinsoul girls, which both come with a carrying case (as do Spiritdolls) so I keep those. If I'm buying a doll secondhand, I like it to have a box (for safety in shipping, or if I move or something) but it doesn't have to be the box the doll came in.

    11. Yes, pretty much. I have 23 dolls, 14 of which are 55-70+ cm. That would be a LOT of boxes to keep, and there are people with several times the number I have. I have kept something like seven or eight of the larger boxes, one of the MSD boxes, and four of the tiny boxes. The larger ones take up a good bit of room, especially as three of them are from 70+cm dolls. That is just way too much junk to keep around for a lot of people, especially as in this hobby, original boxes are only really useful for storage and shipping and generally don't add value to a doll. Honestly, once the doll is out of them, boxes are really annoying to have lying about. (I have actually been thinking about getting rid of the larger boxes that I have kept, because they really do get in the way of things.)

    12. I do take keeping the boxes seriously. I think it is from my habit of collecting figures.. I sometime don't get the dolls secondhand if they don't have the right boxes with them.
I've seen many people saying that they are keeping the boxes for the space, but it actually is wasting more spaces. You can actually put more than one dolls in one box without damaging both dolls and the box. Not for some boxes, but usually they are big. I used to keep 7 dolls in 3 boxes when I could not bring all my boxes around (which is still,). My mom hates to see all the boxes for dolls and figures in my room, but I can't handle it!!

    13. Like most people have mentioned already, the doll boxes don't really add value to the doll since most of them are rather generic and are used more for storage or transport. Whenever I buy a 2nd hand doll, I don't really care about whether or not it comes in its original box as long as it's an authentic doll with is original certificates or other things like head plates etc that show it's authenticity.

    14. I am sure not having all the packaging could disappoint second-hand doll owners in the future but it does not currently effect a dolls second hand price.

I would love to keep all the original boxes for my dolls but like others, I just don't have the space in my little apartment. I have kept as many of them as possible, the special color limiteds, the ones with specific-to-the-doll foam inserts, and the giant wooden box my first doll came with. I do keep all the booklets, paperwork, instructions, certificates, pins and postcards that get packed in the boxes. I sort of collect that kind of doll ephemera. >__< When I buy a rare/limited doll second hand I love to get as much of the original stuff as possible but not having it won't stop me from buying it or make me haggle to pay less. I get that not everyone can afford the space.

    15. I keep the boxes, and for LEs, I certainly want the box if I'm buying a full-set! As far as storage, at the moment, they fit under my bed fairly well, and they do double duty. I've got all of my wigs in one box, and my MSD's clothes are in her box.

    16. I keep my dolls boxes because it's an easy, free storage device. I don't have to buy a special case for them if all I have to do is put them in their box. My BBB Apollo's box isn't very sturdy, but he came with a bag, so I prefer to use that.

I think it makes the doll more 'authentic' if you sell it in the box it came in, but I'm not sure about that.

    17. I keep the company and shipping boxes, since I find the company boxes kind of flimsy on their own and I may want to resell some of my dolls one day. I did come from the anime figurine hobby, so old habits die hard. Although, I tend to keep boxes in perfect condition for many different items I own.

As for selling dolls secondhand, I think the fact that I keep those items makes the buyers feel like what they're getting from me is closer to brand new. Or maybe that's simply my perception since I come from the anime figurine hobby.

    18. I have some doll boxes, but I don't have room for all of them in my small house. If I buy a doll and when I finally get it I'm disappointed with it in some way, I may keep the box around for a while in case I decide to sell it.

    19. Now, well, I only have two dolls, but they are both SD and I have kept and intend to keep their boxes.
      Why?
Because I store their stuff in their boxes! Clothes, wigs, accessories, brushes, magic eraser... This saves me some space, and I can keep the boxes.
Also, if I were to sell one of them, the boxes makes shipping sooo much easier! Then I know the box will fit, and the pillows will help prevent any eventual damage in shipping.

    20. well i know when im searching for a doll second hand having the original box does affect my choice, i love the boxes and alot of the time they are quite pretty but i have 4 dolls 3 of them are secondhand, and 2 of them dont have thier own boxes and i really wish they did i hate having to put my yo-sd in the box with on of my SD's and i wish my sd had a box of his own so i could feel better about travelling with him, for now he usies the bag that BBB gave m and my Apollo just uses his box, i know they take up alot of space but i'd find room they boxes are just waaay too useful to me for traveling or storage plus i also got into this hobby after collecting anime figures so the whole gotta save the box this is pretty ingraned into me.
