1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Where do you keep your BJDs' boxes?

Feb 10, 2011

    1. I personally keep the boxes for storage, as I live in a very small one room apartment and cannot display my dolls. I cut the two biggest ones to build a dollhouse out of the cardboard, and the small ones from the tinies I use to store clothes. To me, the original box doesn't really have that much importance, it'd make no difference to me when buying 2nd hand unless the box was really pretty, like the Luts Honey Delf boxes, the Crobi Milk cartons or the Puki fairytale book boxes. I guess each to their own ^^

    2. I keep every box, inner and outer, and with 30 dolls that's saying a lot. They live in the garage, so it's no big deal. But it is important to me, and I'm always very frustrated when buying secondhand and the doll doesn't come with its box.

Also, with this recent awareness of recasts, having the doll box is one more piece of legitimacy, especially if the papers have gotten lost along the way, or if the company doesn't issue papers.

Some sellers offer to ship in box, or to unstring for cheaper shipping, and I'll always go with the more expensive route if it means getting the original box. It's theirs and ought to go with them, I suppose.

I'm also going to be moving soon, and I can only imagine what a nightmare it would be to move all thirty dolls if I didn't have their boxes to keep them safe during that mess.

    3. I've offered the sale of the original box in almost all my sales posts where I actually had it...and unless it's a tiny, most people would rather pay for the doll to be shipped unstrung in a smaller box. The result is...me buried in doll boxes >.<
On one hand it's great, I have boxes for every doll I own, even those I bought second hand that didn't come with one. On the other hand, I'm going to need to rent out storage space soon to hold them all.

    4. I was studying overseas when I bought my first three dolls, and it just wasn't practical to bring the boxes home with me (it would have been prohibitively expensive to get them half way across the world without damage). I've kept the boxes of the dolls I've bought since returning home because they're convenient for storage, but I wouldn't say I'm attached to them, and when buying larger dolls second hand I'd rather forgo the box and have the doll sent unstrung because it's cheaper.

Honestly, a lot of boxes are pretty plain and generic - many companies use the same style of box for every doll of that size, and at most they might stick a photo of the doll of the front. I always keep the packaging for the anime figures I own because they're generally unique to the figure and quite compact (plus collectors tend to value it and they're a lot safer to sell in custom packaging than in generic boxes) which can't be said of most doll boxes. I'm glad that the hobby in general doesn't value the boxes.

    5. I personally value the boxes highly, I would pay more for a second-hand doll if it came in its original box than I would for one who is not.
It wouldn't be much, 10-20 dollars but still.

I know some smaller companies haven't bothered getting special boxes for their dolls, and send them in blank ones.
I probably wouldn't pay extra for those as there is no proper proof that the box is "for real" so there is no point to that in my head. (I have seen some ariadoll openings in which the dolls arrived in blank boxes)

So yeah to me, the boxes are important, and I keep the original boxes of my dolls, even if I only currently own one doll that I bought directly from the company and as thus I only have one box.
Although I did buy a doll earlier, which I sold to a friend later, which was in it's original box.

    6. I keep all the original/Company boxes, however have dumped some of the shippers. I keep the boxes in an extra closet...but I bet you could keep them in the attic or basement if the humidity is low. If the boxes are kept in the basement, they should not be placed on the floor even if it is carpeted.

    7. I keep mine in my closet on the top shelf in the back inside the carrying bag Mase came in. It's a memory I like to keep. I plan to sell all other doll boxes one day I guess.

    8. Ugg the box question. I hate having to keep the boxes, but I try to keep most of them as it's part
of the hobby for some people. I wind up breaking them down (if I can) so they are easier to store. If I had only a handful of BJDs, it probably wouldn't be such a problem for me, but since I'm closing in on 40 - well, you can see my issue. I recognize that some people really want the box, so I try to keep them. Not having a box, wouldn't stop me one minute, if I wanted the doll.

    9. personnaly, I hold to the papers like it's a $100 bill or something of that kind. as a buyer, I would feel much safer having this than a box as a proof!

I personnaly don't have enough space for my boxes so I don't keep them all. I only do if I have a doubt about keeping the doll.

    10. If you like the way the boxes look, you can mount them to the wall as 3D decorative elements. You can even slide the top box into the bottom, and you'll have an open, decorative box to store/display DVDs or books or kicknacks. It basically acts as a shadow box or shelf, and you can always unmount it if you need it to store your dolls again.

And as for why some people keep their boxes...
I tend to keep most of my dolls in their boxes for storage, so it's certainly useful. However, I'm also unusually enamored with packaging, so I do keep boxes for its own sake. I keep my Dollshe boxes, which the company has obviously spent a lot of time and resources designing, but I also keep my Aria Doll boxes; while plain, they are nevertheless good quality and much sturdier than, say, the box my Leekeworld Mikhaila arrived in.

I also would prefer even for my second hand dolls to arrive in their original packaging. While it's the dolls I'm paying money for, nice packaging enhances the experience, much like the anticipation of opening a present. There's both rhythm and ceremony in that process. I personally wouldn't mind paying a bit more for beautiful sleek presentation of the product as well. I love opening orders from Musedoll because their packaging are always beautiful and unique; even the arrangement of an order in the box is extremely conscientious, and you can just tell that they love what they do and it shows in both their product and packaging.

    11. I always keep the boxes, because all I have until now are very pretty. I like to look at them.:D

I keep the boxes of my boys in my sleeping room. They are perfect for collecting and storing things like their wigs, clothes, etc.

    12. :|in a pile in the corner of my room. 'Cause that's how I roll.

    13. I put my boxes under my bed..have enough space for 3 boxes and a carrier bag..

    14. A suggestion is you could put them under your bed (if your bed is suspended). That way they won't be as seen and they wouldn't get that dirty. :]

    15. I keep all of my doll's company boxes under my bed (except my tiny, which is on the side table) and I plan to keep all further doll's boxes as well. I use them to store the dolls if I won't be playing with them for a while and to hold their extra bits (eyes, wigs, body parts while cleaning, etc.). I also keep them because I know we're going to be moving in a year or two and I want to make sure they'll travel well.

    16. I have one box, and as it's a pretty one I don't mind keeping it, so it's stacked in a niche in my wall. Otherwise there's not much space to put it. I think if I didn't like the box, I'd throw it away.

    17. I'm thinking about getting rid of mine. Ringdoll has such beautiful boxes, it's hard to part with them.. But I recently decided to throw Frankenstein's away, while I still have Sol's. They're purple and silky and magnetic.. >_< Hard to part with.

Other than that, I have a Fairyland box. But they take up so much space and I have never reboxed a doll, so I'm starting to think it would be best just to trash them. Right now the two boxes I have are standing up in my closet, taking up good walking space. lol

    18. at the moment, I keep mine in a messy small closet x.x; when I get my bigger closet cleaned up I plan on putting them neaty on the top shelves.

    19. I keep the box, pillows, and little extra toys(like cards or mini stuffed animals). I get rid of most of the candy since its stuff i dont like lol

    20. I keep the boxes, the boxes that they were shipped in and any sort of packing material that was included.
In case something ever happens and i need to sell.
i keep them packed up and stored somewhere.
