1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. When I was buying my first doll, I ordered his wardrobe at the same time. I couldn't have him sitting around all naked until I got around to making clothes!

    2. Dolls have to come first - even if you have their measurements from the company's website, you can't try on the clothes you're sewing to make sure they fit. *has enough money to buy dolls but somehow not enough to buy them clothes (wtf???)*

But really, there's also the case of it not working out with buying the doll, and then having a bunch of clothes and shoes lying around.

I really WISH I could buy clothes for my dolls at the same time as them, but I seriously can't afford it with all the good clothing being so expensive and adding up when you need an entire wardrobe all at once PLUS you just bought a whole new doll!

    3. I used to buy the dolls first and then clothes, but I started ordering clothes first now, because I can't seem to fall in love with a naked, bald and eyeless doll. I buy clothes sometimes months before. I like it this way better. :)

    4. I buy the doll then I sew her clothes. I buy little clothes.

    5. I buy the doll first, but I was able to order clothes around the same time as my first doll so he wouldn't be naked. xD The second doll had to wait until I made clothes, so he was just wrapped up in a blanket until then. xD

    6. My first doll, and all mostly all of my other dolls I buy as a full set. I like to get what I see. After all that is why I buy the dolls that I buy because I like what I see. Now that I have few dolls I shop for cloths, and shoes for them all. And because I have so many different size dolls the cloths, and shoes should fit one of them.

    7. I buy everything more or less at the same time. It takes me weeks up to months to decide for a doll. I look at tons of owner pics to decide which look I want for my doll. So when I finally decide to order the doll I also know which wig/eyes/clothes the doll will get and order it at the same time or when the next paycheck comes.

    8. First one was only head and eyes. Then i bought body and week of that i ordered clothes. Body is still somewere. I just ordered my second doll head + body same time and now saving money he`s clothes :D.

    9. I didn't vote, as my option wasn't listed. For me, it varies. USUALLY, I'll get the doll first, or have him on preorder/layaway before getting clothes, but I do try to have at least something for him when he gets here, even if its not a full wardrobe. But I have so many dolls, I think I've done a little of everything.

    10. i'm not really sure how to answer this poll. i ordered my doll first, but i ordered all the basic things for her before she ever arrived. it took 3 or 4 months for me to receive my first doll, by which time the wigs, dress, and shoes i'd planned for her had already been delivered to me.

edit: and in regards to the other dolls i have purchased since then, i will usually see if my current box of doll 'things' - clothes, wigs, eyes, etc - has anything suitable for the doll i want. then i will buy one or two things in advance, and then once i get the doll in person i will make a final decision about what kind of things i want to buy for her.

    11. I've got my doll picked out, but I'm trying to pace myself on setting aside money for it... However I've joined a few GO's, a couple of which will come up before I've ordered her, so technically clothes.

Actually, if you want to go real technical, I bought Makoeyes during their event, so I guess really, eyes first. And I just realized the GO that is definitely finishing before I order her is a wig. So now I'm not really sure if we class that as clothes! The other GO's are both for 2029 shoes, and may take a long time to fill...

Uhhh I have fabric sitting around to make clothing with? I maybe shouldn't have answered this poll.

    12. I buy the doll first and then the wig/eyes/shoes, but clothes specifically I don't buy. I probably wouldn't buy eyes/wigs/ shoes either if I thought I could make them decently enough. I've tried with no success outside of tiny slippers, so I buy those, but regardless of whether I make or buy the item, it always waits until after the doll is purchased. I think mostly it's because until it's finalized I'm never really sure what size/color/style I'm going to need for the doll.

    13. Haha i buy doll and clothes at the same time. I also heard story about people having no clothes for their doll but they are able to sew. However i am not good at sewing.. so i prefer buying together with the doll.. So i can just dress them when they come ^^

    14. I usually try to get an idea of the clothing around the same time as the doll so I can get them around the same time... or the clothing before the doll comes. I'm usually looking at clothes a lot of the time anyway just to see what's available so if I see something I like I keep it in mind to pair possible new doll decisions with. At least my two incoming dolls will have entire outfits when they do get here.

Shea was a full-set so I kept him in those for a few weeks til his outfit came.

I ended up buying a tank top and shorts for my Aru so at least he won't have to be entirely nekkid until his Alice's Collections outfit arrives. He's borrowing my Bory's wig for now since he's not here yet. Shouldn't mind too much. :)

    15. My first doll was an impulse buy so he was stark naked (save a pair of shoes, his eyes and his wig). I kinda pitied him so I wound up recycling a shirt I never used into a tank top and a pair of sweatpants so he would be decent :P I got some SD sized spare clothes now so ordering a naked doll is NBD~ Worse case and nothing I have fits I'll whip up something for him or her to wear.

In general I prefer sewing clothes over buying them, but it is kinda nice to have some decent bought clothes to fall back on if my ehem, brilliant master-like design winds up being nothing like I imagined it.

    16. I make all my dolls' clothes, so it's difficult to make anything ahead of time, but I do like trolling resale shops for fabric remnants or good outfits to chop up. The exception would be hair pieces, aprons, or any objects that don't require specific tailoring to fit well.

Ironically, my only resin doll is still waiting for her head, so she has clothes, but no face.

    17. Well I ordered the doll first, but since the waiting time is looooong I entertained myself by ordering wigs and eyes and some clothes for the doll.

    18. well since i was actually planing for a boy doll instead of girl for years the only clothes i every looked at were boy clothes, so when that plan went arrow i had no idea what kind of clothes or style i wanted her to be in and it drove me crazy so i just decided to wait till she gets here first before i decide, but if i had got the boy like i had planed yes i would have bought the clothes first.

    19. I don't know if I already commented in this thread... I can't remember. o_o;
But I wanted to comment, anyway!

For me, it's sort of a combination, and it depends on how long I've been concepting out my next doll. For example, I didn't buy anything for my MNF, Niko, until I ordered him... then I put in the orders to Tata and Crobi and everywhere else I needed to. But with my next doll -- an iplehouse, I've been buying his things for about a year and a half now. (I only just ordered him earlier this week!) I have eyes for dolls I know I'll be creating in the next two years, as well as jewelry and accessories (and some clothes, too) but I have no idea when I'll be ordering the dolls themselves.

I don't like it when a doll arrives before the clothes/items needed to complete it... so I like to have a little nest of items available!

    20. i bought the doll first, then, i went crazy buying fabric to make her clothes, then....my sewing machine broke...when i was just about to get a new one soom just had to come and offer a special event with all sorts of hunky dolls that i couldn't resist....and so.....no sewing machine, no clothes yet.....most likely for christmas she'll be clothed and shoed, in the mean time, she is in her beautiful bed wrapped up in her white blanket waiting for the piggy bank to fatten up again so i can take care of her "how unfair" she might think....but, she'll change her mind when the handsome boys arrive XD! LOL
