1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. I tend to buy them at the same time as much as possible. I feel so bad when a new doll arrives and they don't even have skivvies. If I can't buy the clothes at the same time I usually crochet them up a little something. Even my boys wear dresses then.

    2. Well, I voted at the same time, but technically I try to have the clothes ready for the doll when they get here - but I usually don't buy fabrics for dolls that haven't been ordered yet. Once the doll is on their way, I start preparing their things. :)

    3. I buy the doll first and when they come in I take the measurements of the doll and sew some pants and shirts.

    4. Dolls! I always buy dolls before clothes, because I'm constantly playing catch up. I always earmark money for limited edition sculpts before clothing (because I consider collecting dolls more important than collecting clothes :XD:), which means I have many more dolls than I do outfits. I'm actually thinking I'll make most of my own clothing eventually, because there just isn't much out their that fits my specific aesthetic.

    5. I bought everything I needed before I got my first doll. Clothes, wigs, eyes, shoes, restringing tools, magic eraser, basically anything I thought I might need. I'm glad I did, too! I was able to really enjoy her right out of the box instead of waiting around for things to ship/arrive.

    6. I usually buy both at the same time. I've had situations where the doll miraculously shows up before the outfit and then the poor dolly is hanging out in his/her underwear for a bit. But I try to time it so no doll is naked. Poor Rictor waited for his pants for, like, 3 1/2 weeks after he arrived. He had a jacket, a shirt, underwear, socks, shoes, and no pants. Very stylish.

    7. With my first doll, I didn't buy any clothes first. I made some crappy ones when he arrived so he wouldn't be nekkid but other than that, he went a long time without proper clothes. But with my future dolls, I have made outfits for them already even though I wont have them for another 6 months to a year. But I never buy clothes. My only pair of manufactured clothes were a gift. I like to make my own, or at the very most, commissioned by someone because I like having clothes that aren't mass produced in order to have a more unique doll. And, for the clothes that the character would wear, most of the stuff that you can find for them don't fit, and I'd have to make them anyway. I only have one on my list that I want the default outfit for and that's DOT Ducan. I love his default outfit and it fits my semi-fantasy themed dolls :)

    8. Dolls first, then clothes. If I'm lucky, I'll have clothes ordered and ready to go when they get here, otherwise I'll buy directly from the company so they at least have one outfit. If the doll is from the MP, they tend to sit around awhile without clothes. I sew them something temporarily until I find something I like that'll fit their personality :)

    9. I bought the doll and clothes the same time, as the clothes belong to the dollsona on the site. But I'm also getting just the doll, as is part of their Christmas sale.

    10. Those choices just don't work for me to answer this. When I bought my BJD's I happened to have some non-BJD clothing that fits them but I have no major plans to go out and really buy clothes for them. I really did not ever plan on doing it actually except maybe for some shoes/eyes/wigs. I tend to improvise and make what I can when it comes to my dolls. If they come with clothes I will keep them or sell them if I don't particularly like them but I don't go out and buy them clothes especially for them usually. It's too expensive for me to do that. I have a good sewing machine. I'd much rather sew for them then buy clothes elsewhere. If I am going to be able to afford to get the dolls themselves that's just the way it has to be. I put my money into the resin and into the stuff I can't make well. Not into what goes on their backs. That I can do myself and I'm not into wasting major bucks on things like doll pants anyway. We all joke about it but if in actuality my dolls are wearing clothes that cost more than mine do then I can't really afford to be in this hobby. :P

    11. I think this is perfectly normal! People r different and have lots of different ways of enjoying their hobby. Some people I know buy clothes for themselves and months later they still have tags, never worn..in waiting so to speak. Your new dollies will have a fabulous adventure when they arrive. Buy what u enjoy and really clothes r easier to pick for me than a new expensive doll. :)

Hey Zarae, I am a new member too. Just saying hello and would love to know who your new doll is?

    12. Ordered my first BJD at the beginning of the month. Along with the doll, I ordered a wig, but no clothes. I ordered eyes on eBay, so if I don't like the default ones, I have a spare set. I don't envision my doll yet as any character or dress yet, but would like to have clothes ready for when she gets here next month. :goldstarThe trouble with buying clothes is that they are too expensive. Especially when I do know how to sew, just haven't in a while. Even the shoes and jackets. They are so cute, but will cost more than what I pay for my own. I noticed someone on Etsy selling downloadable patterns. I might try one of those and see if I can figure out the Japanese pattern. I am determined though - my girl will have something waiting for her. :thumbup

    13. I got Angelo from 5Star dolls and Tong Tong as their Christmas event gift :D
i can not wait to get them

    14. I pre-bought a pair of shoes. Then they didn't FIT -_- That's the trouble with not having the doll in-hand to be absolutely sure. Foot lengths get listed but not always widths.

    15. Doll first :) Since I know I am in for a long wait, I have the chance to save a bit of money for clothes and wigs before she arrives.

    16. With my first doll I bought her first and clothes later.
She came with a nightgown so she wasn't naked.

With the doll I have coming soon because it's so much easier to find clothes for her I've been stockpiling clothes while waiting for her. >.<
I think it's a nice idea to get clothes first because then you can mix and match and play dress up right when they get to you.

    17. I didn't even know what kind of doll I wanted to get, so size didn't matter. And of course I buy an SD and the clothes are meant for YOSD.. lol

    18. These days I pick and buy the doll, which gives me at least 2 months to buy clothes and shoes and things.
I generally order at least one outfit and at least one pair of shoes from the company I buy the doll from, so I know we will have at least one outfit, and one pair of shoes that fit properly.

With my first doll, I had picked an MSD, and started buying stuff for her before I ordered the doll.
I ended up changing my mind and picking and SD for my first doll, then was stuck having to sell the MSD clothes, shoes and wigs I bought :/ That is why now I order the doll, then use the waiting time to shop, to keep myself from going crazy with anticipation :D The only problem with this is, when you have an idea of the doll, then the doll comes home and it has a totally different idea of what it wants to do/be/etc lol So I tend to go for classic stuff. Like a pair of pumps for my SD girls. A pair of plain boots for the boys, and go from there :)

    19. With my first, I got her first and when she came she was naked for a loong time. So now I learn to get at least one set ready and go from there.

    20. I like getting everything ready before my doll's arrival so I usually order both at the same time but since the doll companies do take a whole lot longer than the clothes companies, I'm more or less safe regarding that? I really don't like it when I have a doll and nothing to dress it up with. Somehow it just makes me feel uneasy. :\
